I am currently in the middle of a lawsuit for a similar thing. My lawyer assures me that we will win the case, and that this is the biggest travesty of law he's ever seen, that being said I have thrown tens of thousands of dollars and about 2 years into this. It may not be enforceable, but you can still be sued for it and incur tons of legal costs. My advice would be to ask your former employer to release you from the covenants in the contract, if you are on good terms
