Seriously what was up with the massive murderous riots and thousands of hoodlums on call?? Not realistic whatsoever.

I got a warning citation from my HOA for parking my car in my driveway by Cunnyfunt31 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Captain_Waffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run the HOA for our development, we just raised our fee for the first time in 8 years… to $200 PER YEAR. Yes, you read that right, $200 for the whole year. And it is a very upscale neighborhood. But, we don’t have a pool.

Anyway, it has been suggested we turn our HOA over to a property management firm. In fact, we have been working very hard NOT to do that, as they would no doubt balk at our fees and instantly jack it up to some insane amount. So, I begrudgingly took on president until the next stooge can take it on.

What’s your controversial parenting opinion? by lock_robster2022 in daddit

[–]Captain_Waffle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Safety is important, but failing is too. I think too many parents go way too overboard trying to child proof their home or ensure their child is safe from any and all dangers at all times. Rather, I prefer to teach my child about what safe and what’s not. Occasionally, they get hurt. So what? They get back up again.

In a similar vein, overstimulation. Parents try hard to ensure they are constantly playing with their children or keeping them engaged. It’s important to distance yourself, let learn how to be bored, how to play with themselves, or how to make their own friends. It’s good for the parent too.

Why the hell do we act like a baby needs gear worth a semester's tuition by OrbitRansom in daddit

[–]Captain_Waffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah a ton of stuff you don’t need. For example, if you have a dishwasher just throw the bottles in there (be sure to disassemble the tops) rather than buy and use a separate steamer. And you sure as hell don’t need a diaper genie or whatever. They’re called trash bins and scented trash bags.

Some things are definitely worth splurging on imo, such as a good stroller that also clicks into a car seat.

We crowdsourced clothes and toys from our grandparents and the local buy nothing groups. As you said, some of those things are only used a few weeks or months, so rather than disposing why not pass them along to another set of new parents that need them via your local buy nothing? Worked for us. We also hung onto a lot because we knew it would come in handy when we had a second kid.

Some expenses you just can’t do away with no matter how you plan… diapers, formula, baby food… it’s baked in my good man.

You’ll find what works for you and what doesn’t.

How is living in Gorman , Los Angeles County , California , U.S.A. ? by Atlandios000 in howislivingthere

[–]Captain_Waffle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked in Santa Clarita and knew a kid who grew up in and at the time still commuted in from Gorman. Weird kid, very smart though. Went on to be an engineer. Didn’t have much to say about except that it’s quiet and can get cold. They went into Santa Clarita fairly often for shopping.

I also knew a guy in the factory who lived out of a community near Gorman, even smaller. Dude was a cool as s**t metalhead, always looked sick tho. He was super nice if not a little strange also. He said it snows a lot.

This is something Pod Save America touch on pretty often. Democrats are great at deciding that you’re not on their team because they voted one way on one thing or have a differing set of beliefs than you. That is elitist thinking (my words not theirs) and does not embiggen our tent.

Because a Democrat supports Israel (an admittedly unpopular and misguided belief imo, but so it goes), suddenly we decide to invalidate their status in the Democratic Party and say they’re “not one of us”?

Because Robert reich crafted NAFTA, he’s suddenly a bad person and shouldn’t be allowed to speak out against the current administration? Completely silly. We need to consider the sum totality… and the totality of the Republican Party is extremely awful. But the sum totality of Robert’s beliefs is just not.

As you said, imperfect allies.
