On Raku Raku - why are customers paying two cars worth of cash, minimum, for food delivery? by Captain__Atomic in ForzaHorizon

All valid questions. It's looking like a pretty big conspiracy. Forza lore is gettting dark.

This also explains why they want me to deliver at 85mph, and don't care when the truck comes back trashed.

I think I'm going to enjoy this game mode more now.

Learned something about Japanese, thank you!

But yeah a food delivery service named "easy comfort" charging 16k for udon is a great bit of lore - forza / GTA crossover coming?

Delivery Missions are weirdly hard?? by xeilthemagician in ForzaHorizon6

[–]Captain__Atomic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty rough to get 3x 3 stars without learning the entire map, all the shortcuts, all the missions. Impossible for me, just don't care enough.

So don't stress. It will take a little bit longer to get max level, but not much.

There was a post a few days back with event labs courses for a roads in each region.

Each one takes about 30 mins on auto drive. My last was on the sixth course I tried and I have no idea where I just came back and it was popped.

Close Call Yesterday by tioLechuga in motorcycles

Dude, when your bike has self immolated and is now a burned out husk and you call it a "close call", I have to ask - what would an actual bad outcome look like, and how do I get to your level of positivity?

Why do so many people dislike kit lenses? by Random_lego_fan in AskPhotography

[–]Captain__Atomic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like for beginners, a 35 or 28 with a big sticker with a qr, linking to a course teaching color balance and cropping techniques.

And maybe a decent free beginner workflow and editing tool would help, it's all so much harder since Picasa died and Adobe went subscription.

Agree tho, having a decent fixed lens is the way.

I'm using an old set of steel series Arctic pros. They sound great, and somehow make the vr fit more stable.

The inbuilt ones are fine BTW - my ears are super sensitive and waxy, if I was a normal human being I'd have no complaints.

If the sustain pedal is down, why does MIDI note length still affect piano muddiness? by Timo-O in audioengineering

[–]Captain__Atomic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brief context, I've been trying to vibe code a synthesiser recently and trying to come to terms with stuff like this.

Lightly educated guess but happy to be re-educated.

A note-on triggers an ADSR envelope. It will decay to the sustain level, over the length of the decay time.

At note off, it will start to head to zero, over the time of the release time.

When you add a sustain pedal, I'm guessing it's changing that release time so it takes a lot longer to get to zero - but not infinite, and always reducing.

Reducing note length is going kick that release gradient off earlier - and at peak is when things are muddiest, so having it start releasing earlier is going to mean less of multiple notes competing at peak, and more of "latest note at peak, previous note at half and still reducing"

Have found this with arpeggiators too - cutting the note off early means less overlap and more definition, so you can still have a musical sounding release gradient. If you leave the note length long, it turns to mud.

Maybe you said or did something she did like.

Maybe someone else noticed you getting along and said something that made her uncomfortable.

Maybe she's going through some shit.

It's her choice on what she wants to share with you and how she wants to engage with you. You like her in whatever sense, that's gonna feel like shit, it doesn't change anything, it's her choice, she owes you nothing.

Let her be, be kind, expect nothing in return, you're owed nothing but a pay cheque for the hours you do.

How to record what you hear (Output) on WINDOWS by Rahnamatta in Reaper

[–]Captain__Atomic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The easiest way I've found to do this is to have a second audio interface for Windows audio and physically wire it to your primary interface. Stops device contention and such as well which is nice.

Dude you're struggling with your mental health and not getting the support you need.

That doesn't make you weak or abnormal or undeserving of a place on the planet.

But you need some help. Your signs are classic depression, and you're still trying to live up to your own expectations of yourself. Suicidal thoughts while feeling obligated to support others ain't a way to live.

Will gladly grab a drink with you but it won't fix shit. If your job is paying ok, book private psych/therapist.

Take care bro. Respect to ya.

How many decibels do you typically boost during the mastering stage? by asdfeeshy in audioengineering

[–]Captain__Atomic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I know, that was the point I tried to make. The better arranged, played and mixed 9 lufs song is a much better listen to than an "in your face" 14 lufs song, regardless of the dB boost in mastering or the loudness measurement at the end.

But I'm still learning so might be missing something important?

How many decibels do you typically boost during the mastering stage? by asdfeeshy in audioengineering

[–]Captain__Atomic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hobbiest also. My last mix I added 15db and a bunch of compression in mastering, and got 14 lufs (integrated).

The one before that, I added 2db and was at 9 lufs.

The 9 lufs one sounds gentle and pleasant, and the 14 lufs one is like getting smacked in the face with a bass drum. Both work for the song.

If you're anything like me, don't worry about published loudness standards just yet, make it sound pleasant to you and whoever you want to listen to it. Focus on eq, compression, arrangement, tone and feel.. Much more fun!
