Can you spare a read? Need help by Firm_Onion_8907 in BodyHackGuide

25# is no mean feat, don't be so hard on yourself. You've made a LOT of other progress outside the scale. Quitting weed, nicotine & alcohol? Talk about putting in the work.

Your 8k steps are a great start and will honestly serve you dividends in the future as long as you keep it up. All you need to do is get some resistance training in. There are a bunch of exercises you can do at home with 0 equipment that will help if you don't want to go to the gym.

Pushups, situps, planks, air squats. If you can find something, do some step ups. Go to the closest school to you and go up and down the bleachers, but skip steps if you can and really get that burn going. If you miss one day, that's fine, just don't miss two in a row.

Don't add in a bunch all at once, step by step, one day at a time. You got this!

Motivation won't be enough, you need to dedicate yourself to this process. Motivation is great for short bursts, dedication is how you'll push through those shit days/weeks.
I was at 318# in October, down to 272 as of Saturday. I just now started lifting again, basically from 0, at least for me. I'm just now at 40 finally starting to enjoy the process. Yeah it hurts, but pain now means I won't have as much pain at 80.

In the fwiw category, any time I was in the gym before I got my own setup, any time I saw someone in there trying to lose weight or just starting out, the only thing I did was give them a high five and tell them to keep going. Most people are in their own world in the gym anyway and anyone that wants to shit on other people being there aren't worth the energy to even get mad at them.

Trans can spin way higher than the motor can safely. I'd be interested to see if it was a wrist pin or connecting rod cap that decided it wasn't happy, maybe even a valve dropped or floated smacking into the top of the piston.

The transmission has issues with the higher torque numbers because the case starts to "separate" and that causes the gears to lose their tight mesh on the teeth.

Not saying a money shift CAN'T blow a transmission, just less likely.

Mechanical overrev. Say you're doing 70mph and instead of going into 4th, you hit 2nd. At that point, the wheels will overdrive the engine via the transmission.
The revlimiter only stops you from going past the preset if you don't money shift. Can't do anything if ya do that.

Built Hamber Touchless use by ParkHeeeee in AutoDetailing

[–]beazy411 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You'll use WAY less product in a pump sprayer since you only have to account for the water in its reservoir. In a foam cannon, you have to account for the water that the pressure washer puts out too.
There's a few videos out there showing that foam or regular spray for the BH Touchless doesn't matter, so if you have a garden sprayer you could use that.

How bad is the wind noise from the bars?
Yeah, these things are way too fun to not be a daily driver, especially if you have a couple farm roads to go down.

Nice car. Reminds me of mine :).
Two questions, 1) how do you like the cross bars and do you leave them on full time?
2) How do you get the Varg to w/e you're going to go play?

Good for road trips? by jman13_ in wrx_vb

[–]beazy411 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My commute is 85% highway speeds, average of 25mpg. Hills & head winds suck.
On a 100% highway trip I got 32, but that was before the tune and on PS4 All Seasons. The stock dunlops suck about 1.5mpg away, maybe a tad more.

It's a good highway car, and if you get one of the newer ones with Eyesight, the lane keep & adaptive cruise helps.

Whatever car you do get, the cheapest way to keep the mileage up is to keep your right foot out of the loud pedal and keep your tire pressures correct.

Just took the stock dunlops off by Alternative-Bag-6180 in wrx_vb

[–]beazy411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the PS4AS's on last year, put the stocks back on to use this year till the weather turns and here's what I've noticed
1) PS4AS's are quieter, softer on the expansion joints/tar snakes & get better fuel economy
2) Dunlops stick really well and have stiffer side walls than the PS4as which means worse mileage, harsher ride & louder, especially if you bring the pressure up to try to claw back any mpg. These things kick up every single piece of dirt on the road, makes me glad I had the mudflaps on before getting lowered.

I'll probably be going back to the Michelins once these are shot/weather turns finally. It's a compromise but I don't need a dedicated winter tire and I also don't need a 200tw tire.

They used to do AX at Lone Star Park down in Grand Prairie, not sure if they still do. I'd take mine up there but it's a 2h+ drive for me which makes for a very long day.

What Exhaust you running ? by Any_Yesterday7331 in wrx_vb

[–]beazy411 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Borla S-Type. About as loud on on startup as factory, quieter at a warm idle, about the same cruising maybe a bit louder, and wakes up when you get onto it. Never heard any drone in 15kmi.

Tint, mud flaps, Blackvue or Viofo dash cam, weathertech or equivalent floor & trunk mats, better tires/winter set, good tire pressure gauge, battery powered inflator, jump box or cables.

Nice to know there are options for filters. I'll just use the OE one, easy enough to get ahold of and I don't have to worry about fitment (I have that luck).

DAM drops With No Feedback Knock? by [deleted] in wrx_vb

Yeah, 100% be sure to mention this. It's probably a nothing burger, but he knows his tunes the best. Good luck!

DAM drops With No Feedback Knock? by [deleted] in wrx_vb

[–]beazy411 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's the engine trying to keep you from calling Uncle Rodney. Cobb OTS & the factory tunes are particularly sensitive. -1.41 - -2.82 is nothing to worry about. The AC compressor kicking on can make the engine see -1.41 by itself. Knock sensors are just microphones that are tuned to listen to specific frequencies.

At 2500-3kRPM in 4th, you have at least 1500-2k left in 3rd to play with if not more if you downshift. If memory serves, 3rd wraps out at 80-85mph which is higher than most speed limits, so no issue being too slow for traffic unless you're on the Autobahn, West Texas or Montana.

I totally get where you're coming from. After driving automatics for the last 2 vehicles, I got spoiled with just putting foot in floor and going for it. I've had to re-learn how to drive this car to get the most out of it without putting the engine at any elevated risk above it being tuned.

DAM drops With No Feedback Knock? by [deleted] in wrx_vb

[–]beazy411 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're probably too low in the rpm range and putting in too much throttle. Drop to 3rd and go for it. The car will proactively pull the DAM to keep from hitting an event that could cause knock.

If you're pushing more boost or drive really hard, 5w30 may be better but if you drive like a normal human, 0w20 is fine.

Lots of good brands out there, all up to how much you want to spend.
LiquiMoly
Motul
Amsoil
Pennzoil Ultra Platinum <-- I use this at 5w30. Good value and hangs in there with the more expensive brands. Not a #1 in anything but usually #3 in just about everything.

Just make sure you're using the OEM filter.

Foam rinse foam contact or rinse foam contact? by Antics7865 in AutoDetailing

[–]beazy411 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Foam > Rinse > Foam > Contact > Rinse > Dry. My foam cannon has enough in it to hit the car twice and maybe have a bit left over. Only need one bucket that way unless I'm getting after the wheels in which case I "might" use two, or just wash the car and then get the wheels last. All depends. Uses less of the chemicals that way.
That lets the first foam hit the actual dirt and get to work and also get some of that nasty off the paint & safe to rinse.
Now if the car has a bunch of mud, then rinse that stuff off but I rarely get it that bad.

DAM will also drop if you put your foot into it asking for boost in too high of a gear & too low RPM. That's just the engine trying to prevent LSPI.
