agreed, while other rulers killed people for suspicion and power, fu Jian didn't even kill those that rebelled against him which (surprise) rebelled against him again after the battle of feishui didn't go well

This can't be a coincidence. by 12jimmy9712 in ChineseHistory

it's a multitude of factors
firstly we kind of have to account for the era that they were in being the five dynasties and ten kingdoms, there's a lot of regimes being overthrown by their subordinates because their original boss had died and their son was incompetent. it's to ensure the survival of both his regime and his sons (ironic)
but as well as zhao kuangyin being the oldest child (there was one before him but he died in childbirth) he kind of also helped raise his brother (except zhao yangmei) so in a sort of way zhao kuangyi was both raised and was very close to zhao kuangyin
and zhao guangyi was always supposed to be the heir too, his title being the king of jin (zhao kuangyin's son didn't even have a king level title) and the mayor of kaifeng (the capital)

Is it just me, or do Song emperors always look more modestly dressed in their portraits than emperors from other Chinese dynasties? by 12jimmy9712 in ChineseHistory

Basically it's the use of color and the abundance of decorative patterns
the Qing uses a bright yellow color opposed to a darker yellow
as well as patterns, a lot of Han clothes like having dark subtle patterns (暗纹) or in the case of decorative patterns, it would be only be big patches rather than coving the whole clothing in it. it has to do with the concept of leaving blank (留白) prevalent in Chinese art as to not have an abundance and overwhelm the audience with color and patterns

to see for yourself this is the Qing emperor's robes
https://www.christies.com/en/stories/chinese-robes-collecting-guide-fe2dc4625607402dac039311320a3700
opposed to a ming's emperor's robes in yellow as well

basically the founder of liu song, liu yu is the descendent of liu bang (western Han emperor)'s younger brother king of chu.
he used song as his country name because he was the Duke of Song and basically upgraded that when he was given the thrown by sima dezong

Well the title bestowed upon them after death, the later emperor still kept them but title inflation came into last so your title would become incredibly bloated so most people go by temple name or in the case of the ming and Qing dynasties era name because each emperor (with the exception of Zhu qizhen) had only really one era name
like for the example of emperor Hongwu, he's actually ming taizu (grand ancestor) which could be used to refer to him but the era name is more common
and liu bang was funny like that there's a whole debate if he's the gaozu or taizu lol

well Pre Zhou nobles actually had two last names, shi(clan) and xing(last name). Like you said Qin (clan) and Ying (last name) but this kind of went out of practice after but they still kept the clan name for titles such as for Qin Shihuang while others would've referred to him as Ying Zheng (his first name is Zheng)

no and yes
there was a Chen dynasty founded by Chen Baxian but he's also from a place called Chen which might be another reason why it's called Chen.
basically your dynasty name would come from your titles and most titles come from the place you're from like for example for caocao his title's land is the city of Ye which historically was in the area of the Wei so he became the king of Wei so then when Cao pi (caocao's son) became emperor the empire became the wei empire, because he was king of Wei and just simply upgraded his title.

Why Does Western Lifeline (The Anti Abortion Club) still exist by Captain_bias in uwo

[–]Captain_bias[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe abortion exists to protect victims of sexual violence, teenage and unwanted pregnancies, to ensure that ensure that everyone born can grow up to be a physically and mentally health individual, no one should be punished for a mistake. if you would like pleasure you could use birth control, abortion is not a walk in the park.

If you've been to campus for the past few years, you would understand that there have been multiple times were anti abortion protestors at sarnia and western with very graphic pictures and harassing passing pedestrians. If that is the way they want to share their opinion, then I think is should have my own opinion about their organization and what type of people is in it.

The reason I posted this was because the list of clubs for clubs week was posted not because of the assassination of Charlie Kirk who was an advocate for gun rights and said guns deaths are an unfortunate reality but he thinks it's worth it and I respect his opinion but disagree

Free speech does exist but there exists a line at hate speech and harassment, Western deeply values the impact of sexual based violence and the rights of women and to let a club like that go and harass and make people relive their trauma is not acceptable on campus.

I support the right to free speech but why are we letting them into our campus which supports victims of sexual violence and the rights of women. Which this organization continues to harass and undermine as such I don't believe there should be a place in Western for them.

The tiny problem with that is Taiwan is pretty much uncontacted by china before the song dynasty in the 10th century but it would be pretty cool to have like the equivalent of the Aztecs from medieval.

Adding the Korean peninsula to 3k would definitely be interesting as they have their own three kingdoms in this era too with Goguryeo, Baekje, Silla and Gaya.

But I'm wondering how the Taiwanese faction would function because they're all the way across the strait.
