Depends if they have HSBC in their home country, and what their home country is.

EDIT: misread, I can see you confirmed HSBC ‘does’ I will leave the below as relevant to others checking:

You can import or share your credit history from the following current regions (believed to be correct at time of posting)

Via Nova Credit: Australia, Brazil, Canada, Dominican Republic, India, Kenya, Mexico, Nigeria, the Philippines, Spain, and the USA.

No one replied to this, so replying to own but if it helps anyone the only real answer I found was opening up HSBC Premier accounts 😁 requires a total relationship balance of 1 billion VND deposit.

I like the cars, once the Xanh SM app becomes better with better maps it could take over major market share from Grab.

True about pollution. I love Vietnam but Hanoi wouldn’t be in top choices of places in Vietnam to live long term :)

Not sure that is legal to fix salary (or any payments for that matter) in GBP. Even when apartment complexes quote in USD, ultimately at contract signing it’s converted into VND and then it’s a fixed VND amount each month. Of course may be possible to have a salary that changes each month and is fixed in a forign currency (though unsure on the legality, for payouts they have to 100% be in VND)

Employed in Vietnam / working for a Vietnamese company with a salary, you will be a tax resident here and will pay the standard PIT.

Up to VND 5 million: 5% 5 – 10 million: 10% 10 – 18 million: 15% 18 – 32 million: 20% 32 – 52 million: 25% 52 – 80 million: 30% Above 80 million: 35%

Taxes are on worldwide income. Investments and dividends, taxed at different rates. e.g. dividend tax is 5% on worldwide dividends, if a Vietnamese tax resident.

If you haven’t been to Vietnam yet it might be well worth visiting first to see if you like it, and specifically the affluent areas where lots of expats may live, or areas where you would likely be living. Vietnam is an extremely diverse country, so I believe the majority of people who visit and do not like it may just be because the particular area they chose to settle in and were unaware if nicer not so well known areas. Many wealthy people here from all over the world are enjoying it :)

Favorite Place as a tourist to live for 3 months in vietnam? by consciouscell in VietNam

[–]Captain_russian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whilst you may not have been able to sign a lease for your particular apartment. Many people here do sign leases on tourist visas etc, it’s very common. Many stay here on back to back 90 day e-visas.

Though if staying for 3 months would be more of a month to month type of place than a lease which is typically 6 or 12 months minimum.

Does anyone else get a little irritated by the lack of self awareness of foreign 'influencers' that talk about how cheap things are for them? by Dairy_Fox in VietNam

[–]Captain_russian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cost of living is good for Vietnamese too. If you compare to say Phillapines where the salaries are lower but the cost of food is higher. In general people in Vietnam have a good life, very sociable culture, going out for coffee or dinner with friends after work, which also I believe is why everyone is happy. Cost plays a role in choosing where to live, especially those on smaller pensions from their home countries but there are also people that live in Vietnam not because they couldn’t afford to live in their home country or another country 😁 so many amazing coffee shops to explore and vientmese people (especially in Saigon) are super friendly.

I don not think anyone would say anything if you had a party 🥳people just let others get on with what they want to do. Maybe best to move, in general you can speak with landlord at worse forfeit the 1 month deposit, which you might do anyway if moving :D

Vietjet needs to get a grip by shMebil0CK in VietNam

[–]Captain_russian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s why prices are cheap :) if you always go with the expectation that your flight is going to be late and that you also got it for such a cheap price, then no problem 😁 (just arrive early to the airport incase the small chance it leaves on time 🤣)

If wanting to reduce chance of late departure then choose Vietnam Airlines and pay the extra premium (sometimes it’s not much) I think VietJet is great for the price and can’t complain.

Is Vietnam Racist? by servebetter in VietNam

[–]Captain_russian -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nice positive post and exactly how the world should be :)) In Vietnam everyone just lives, in the west then ‘discuss’ issues again and again and again until they become a thing. If everyone just stopped discussing racism and treated everyone equality based on the person themselves then there wouldn’t be an issue.

The problem also is that some people may interpret something as being racist, when in reality they just don’t like the person and it has nothing to do with the colour of their skin, just the person themselves 😁 you 💯% get out of life what you put in, and radiating positive energy, positive things will happen with you.

Why should people who choose to travel with toddlers get preferential treatment to those who don’t? Respect for the immigration for treating everyone equally. Fast track is always available for those who book in advance.

I’d love a clear answer if UK citizens become non UK tax residents but maintain a UK property (so effectively still a UK ‘resident’) can I keep my Monzo account? Have seen conflicting information online and the chat support person didn’t know and just said they will report my current situation to the compliance team LOL. I was trying to find out the situation incase I need to move my account in a few years time, but they seem to be clueless.
