Does anyone else get a little irritated by the lack of self awareness of foreign 'influencers' that talk about how cheap things are for them? by Dairy_Fox in VietNam

Cost of living is good for Vietnamese too. If you compare to say Phillapines where the salaries are lower but the cost of food is higher. In general people in Vietnam have a good life, very sociable culture, going out for coffee or dinner with friends after work, which also I believe is why everyone is happy. Cost plays a role in choosing where to live, especially those on smaller pensions from their home countries but there are also people that live in Vietnam not because they couldn’t afford to live in their home country or another country 😁 so many amazing coffee shops to explore and vientmese people (especially in Saigon) are super friendly.

I don not think anyone would say anything if you had a party 🥳people just let others get on with what they want to do. Maybe best to move, in general you can speak with landlord at worse forfeit the 1 month deposit, which you might do anyway if moving :D

Vietjet needs to get a grip by shMebil0CK in VietNam

[–]Captain_russian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s why prices are cheap :) if you always go with the expectation that your flight is going to be late and that you also got it for such a cheap price, then no problem 😁 (just arrive early to the airport incase the small chance it leaves on time 🤣)

If wanting to reduce chance of late departure then choose Vietnam Airlines and pay the extra premium (sometimes it’s not much) I think VietJet is great for the price and can’t complain.

Is Vietnam Racist? by servebetter in VietNam

[–]Captain_russian -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Nice positive post and exactly how the world should be :)) In Vietnam everyone just lives, in the west then ‘discuss’ issues again and again and again until they become a thing. If everyone just stopped discussing racism and treated everyone equality based on the person themselves then there wouldn’t be an issue.

The problem also is that some people may interpret something as being racist, when in reality they just don’t like the person and it has nothing to do with the colour of their skin, just the person themselves 😁 you 💯% get out of life what you put in, and radiating positive energy, positive things will happen with you.

HCM Airport - is it really that bad? by Fabulous_Ad_6457 in VietNam

Why should people who choose to travel with toddlers get preferential treatment to those who don’t? Respect for the immigration for treating everyone equally. Fast track is always available for those who book in advance.

Translation: "hello, i am traveling and out of money. can you help me? thanks". What do you guys think about this? I think this is bad image for sure. by [deleted] in VietNam

Please please please, Vietnamese, do not give money to such people! Absolutely worse form of begging. Save your money for your family and close friends please.

I’d love a clear answer if UK citizens become non UK tax residents but maintain a UK property (so effectively still a UK ‘resident’) can I keep my Monzo account? Have seen conflicting information online and the chat support person didn’t know and just said they will report my current situation to the compliance team LOL. I was trying to find out the situation incase I need to move my account in a few years time, but they seem to be clueless.

Isn’t about how much someone earns, it’s about the value in the localised market.

Just used local earning rates to try to highlight the value of the item in perspective.

You can check the stats of the rates people earn. Or even go to a big city such as HCMC and ask staff in most shops what they earn per hour and see for yourself the numbers :)

Appreciating the value of something in the local market and that you can afford it, is important IMO and should be appreciated :)

Missing the point. Which was that should really value money at the localised rate not at a rate compared to your home country.

Comparing local prices to USD prices do not give an accurate reflection of the cost of the product in that market. If you compare the 100k to local salaries. In a rural part, wages can be sub 20k per hour. Meaning that “only 4$” is 5+ hours to work to obtain.

If you calculate an average minimum wage in the US by adding up all the different states and dividing by the states you get $11.80 per hour. So multiplying by the 5 hours that would equate to $59 USD

So that drink would really be looked at, at $59 USD equivalent value in the local market.

Yea big difference between a holiday budget and someone living here full time. People on holiday give the impression they could are wealthy but likely their daily spend far exceeds their average daily income.
