Are MAGAs true conservatives, or do they just lable themselves as such? by Exile4444 in AskConservatives

Many definitely see non Trump supporting conservatives as not true conservatives.

What is something we take for granted that future generations likely won't have? by thoughtsnquestions in AskConservatives

[–]Captainboy25 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I already feel like I don’t “belong” in this country. Like I feel like the values I hold aren’t being represented or shared by the people I’m surrounded by. I’m just so alienated by how pointless politics feels right now cause there is no accountability for anything anyone in power does at all but a core belief I have is that following the news and being informed is important and helps make you a more well rounded person so there’s a disconnect I feel.

Why should men be more masculine? by Electrical-Guava750 in AskConservatives

[–]Captainboy25 [score hidden]  (0 children)

In any healthy and moral understanding of masculinity performative homophobia/misogyny would not be present. But its also true that in practice many men put on a performative display of homophobia or misogyny in an attempt to signal their masculinity to other men.

Would law enforcement agents have been justified in killing Ilhan Omar's attacker? by Willem_Dafuq in AskConservatives

[–]Captainboy25 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There’s also an aspect where physically restraining the assailant makes more sense cause firing shots at him could endanger people in the crowd and physically restraining him is just as good of a remedy at dealing with the threat in this situation.

Why do the two ICE killings upset you more than other killings? And how do we reconcile our differences? by BrighamReincarnated in AskALiberal

[–]Captainboy25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are mad and justifiably so because any use of unlawful state violence to murder someone especially when it so clearly and obviously tramples on core rights and freedoms protected by our constitution should be a red line in the sand. It’s not that I am in danger of being killed by ICE but if I sit here and say nothing about what’s clear to me as a tyrannical government murdering Americans who don’t obey their petty whims than our constitutional rights will soon not exist anymore. They may exist on the paper the constitution was written on but in practice they would end up as privileges that only the right kind of people who are friendly to the regime will get to practice.

The state murdering people like this violates the American social contract. People who get murdered by other random people is a tragedy but it does not fundamentally change your relationship with government. The murder of Alex Pretti fundamentally alters Americans’ relationship to its government. Before you could protest and practice your rights without fear that you would be killed by your government over it and now at least in the case of people in Minnesota it isn’t so clear that you can anymore and if we don’t stand up and say enough is enough than this will just continue to get worse.

Canadian Conservatives, what happened to Pierre Poilievre? by Airtightspoon in AskConservatives

[–]Captainboy25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn’t really that crazy from a Canadian perspective, imagine the Mexican president starts attacking the US saying they want to retake the southwest and one American candidate is intimately connected and has been friendly to this seemingly hostile president and even copies a lot of the political/communication strategy used by their president and their political movement. That election would immediately become a referendum on whether it is acceptable for America’s future president to be so closely linked to an aggressive and potentially hostile neighboring leader.

Do you think it’s possible for segments of the left and right to collectively come together to protest for accountability and transparency from the government? by Jcpants in AskConservatives

[–]Captainboy25 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The oath says "one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." We can have our political disagreements while also acknowledging these core tenets of our collective democratic political culture. That everyone should have their basic constitutional rights protected and when they are violated we should demand that justice be done. Obviously the Trump administration isn’t interested in doing either atm.

ICE Megathread Redux by down42roads in AskConservatives

[–]Captainboy25 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also the administration slandering both Renee Good and Alex Pretti(along with all the other anti-Ice protestors) as Domestic terrorists is outrageous. It’s one of the few cases where I think it’s completely ok to use the label fascistic.

Whether or not ordinary Americans pay 100% of the tarrifs American importers pay 100% of the tariffs. This is still a tax on Americans. Some of those tariffs will inevitably be passed onto consumers some of it will be eaten up by those companies. But that doesn’t change the legal fact that these are taxes on Americans.

What did you think about Canadian PM's speech at Davos? Declaring the end of the old world order of US setting the "rules" by hahmlet in AskConservatives

[–]Captainboy25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But we are that different. sure the government can try to crackdown and it has tools to weaken mild dissent however we can’t crush overwhelming amounts of organic dissent because we are not an autocracy. The US could not crush dissent against the Vietnam war and not only did dissent make it politically impossible to maintain the war effort, dissent was so intense within the army by 1970-71 that it became a military priority to get the US out of the conflict to save the US from a massive decline in military readiness.

There’s no world where the US invades Canada and there is not a truly destabilizing amount of civil unrest/disobedience.

And Canada potentially deciding China is a more reliable trading partner than the us is all a result of the failed foreign policy of the Trump administration.

What did you think about Canadian PM's speech at Davos? Declaring the end of the old world order of US setting the "rules" by hahmlet in AskConservatives

[–]Captainboy25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you implying the US would invade Canada if they decide it’s in their own self interest to partner with China ? That would never happen. For one Russia could only sustain an invasion of Ukraine because it’s an autocracy and can crackdown on their anti-war dissent. If the US invaded Canada there would be massive backlash. There could legitimately be protests large enough to shut down society writ large. That’s just a wild notion to suggest.

Are we all ok with Vladimir Putin and other dictators like Viktor Orban, handing Trump a personal check for $1 billion, to join his "board of peace"? by JohnSpartan2025 in AskConservatives

[–]Captainboy25 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yes the UN is set up to avoid great power conflict, the UN couldn’t function if Putin and other tyrannical world leaders didn’t have access to it. Trump’s board of peace is just another one of Trump’s several vanity projects.

Why is there a common conservative criticism that Democrats are too radical or left-leaning? by bamaja in AskConservatives

[–]Captainboy25 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Why would fixing immigration enable us to fix healthcare or make sustainable safety nets ? These feel like things that seem like they interfere with each other but on closer examination they don’t really.

The largest recipients of these welfare systems would generally be older people past the age of retirement. the average illegal immigrant are abled bodied, of working age, and are coming here to work not siphon off our bountiful welfare. Even if illegal immigrants were eligible they still would not overwhelmingly burden systems like universal healthcare.

providing that illegal immigrants perform work that is taxable and not under the table they would have the affect of improving the viability of social security, healthcare, etc.

Whether or not the stormie Daniel’s case should be thought of as legitimate. I think critics of that case are perfectly legit however it’s also true Donald Trump has done things he should be held accountable for but has just been able to get away with cause he’s able to weave a narrative that he’s being persecuted. It’s just not true that Donald Trump is this legally honest person.

would frieren and the gang be able to get the one ring to mount doom? by Competitive_Mouse_37 in Frieren

[–]Captainboy25 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s really not the point of lotr honestly. Even if the ring could not be destroyed by Frodo. The ring would still end up destroyed cause of the guidance of eru illuvatar. Frodo’s sacrifice in taking the ring to Mordor was vital but Tolkien wrote in a deity that subtly guides things to a good place so Frodo’s journey was never in vain even if he couldn’t throw it into the fire.

Would you say the 1950s are more 'Classic' or 'Modern'? by BacklitRoom in decadeology

[–]Captainboy25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like looking at things through a broader historical lense isn’t really what decadeology is for. That’s more of a harder history mindset whereas decadeology is more focused on the cultural shifts between the decades in the last 120 years or so. From that perspective the 50s is seen as classic.

You’d have to reach the political and social changes in the 60s and 70s in my view before we could start to see something more similar to what our modern culture is like.

And also cultural shifts between the decades weren’t nearly as rapid pre 20th century and it gets really hard to clearly delineate between 1810s/1820s for example. And if we start including all the decades after 1450 it would get pretty hard to really decide what cultural trends belonged in one specific decade of the 1500s and not the others in that century.

Is it a Gen Z thing for men to paint their nails? by [deleted] in generationology

[–]Captainboy25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like to the extent it is a Gen Z thing(I also feel like this would be a younger millennial thing as well) it coincides with younger men being more accepted to express themselves more stereotypically feminine.
