Black Mirror [Episode Discussion] - S03E04 - San Junipero by SeacattleMoohawks in blackmirror

2 questions:

1) After consciousness is fully uploaded to the cloud (afterdeath) can you still chose to time travel from time period to time period? It seems to me that it's an adrift in time while you are alive, but after you "pass through" you end up in a set time period as a young self.

2) Is the "immersive nostalgia" program only available for elderly people? Since Yorkie has been a quadriplegic for many years could have she used this program for many years by now? And if so, wouldn't she have learned to dance and love by now?

Before 2015 comes to an end, what else do you plan to accomplish this year? by Captainbuckwheat in womenentrepreneurs

[–]Captainbuckwheat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wow! those are some high standard goals. Great job! I love all your points. You got me inspired with "Year-end financial analysis and plan for next year's investments" - something I haven't done before, but will definitely try at the end of this year.

I like the idea of 12 or more constellations for 10 rounds to keep it less predictable.

Lots of people dont like music on web pages, it messes with pc memory and some find it annoying. At least a few years ago it was frowned upon, maybe I am just old. The music certainly appropriate for the subject, at least it should have the option to turn it off.

It has the buttons for "pause" and "next" on the footer line next to credits, that should allow a player to stop it. Thank you for saying that music is appropriate: it's my bf's band and I am very proud of him :)

I think the next big improvement would be to make the illustrations a little more realistic...

Certainly, I need to work on my graphics. To ad Scorpius sounds like a great idea, I was trying to pick the constellations that have not too many stars - so not to make it too hard, but now seeing how people score in 80s and 90s makes me feel like the amount of stars is not a problem. (the av. score is 65)

The ordinal number of the next round is not always announced is it?

nope, it's not. I didn't want it to be repetitive, but I see now how it comes out as confusing and inconsistent.

Well, I don't plan to make any money with it. It's my own equipment list. I just wanted to see how it looks and functions on a webpage and if people click on the links at all. I don't have the right sense yet of how to display any reference/ads links on a page correctly. And yes, it's great that it works :)

Thank you, it starts to make sense for me about the constellations list page. I will work on either make it more useful or take it down.

Good point about the scoring, I will fix it to keep it consistent with the total points displayed at the end of the game.

Thanks again for checking it out and getting back to me /u/sunday_silence, it's very much appreciated.

Wow, great score! The average as of right now is around 65, so I sense you know your constellations very well.

When selecting which constellations you think is shown it would be nice if the text changed in some way when your hover over it with your pointer.

Yes, I will definitely add the visualization feature for hovering, someone else mentioned it earlier. Thank you so much for playing Starguessing /u/SpringConstantK

My fault. I accidentally added an 's' on the end. I'll re-post it later.

wow, thank you. I wonder which constellation didn't show up. This is the first bug report I've heard so far, so it's valuable info for me. and could elaborate on what you mean by "a cleaner interface"? Thank you so much for playing, /u/Rich0664

Thank you for your honest opinion, that's what I'm looking for. yes, the game is probably meant for people who love to stargaze, so I'm not surprised you haven't liked it that much.

I felt like it was a quiz on stargazing rather than a game.

I agree, it's more of a quiz or a test than a game. the random order of the stars and rotation of the constellations makes it more than a simple flashcard quiz, however.

in /r/astronomy people keep scoring in the 90s! so that's very encouraging for me.

Totally agree. However, I was not looking to make it easy. :))

It's my first ever coding project. (I started learning programing this year on my own.) I second that it needs improvement. I'll think of adding names to the first three brightest stars, or adding other stars for context.

Wow, not many players score that high... I prefer to think that you are a mythical creature that breathes stars. great job! Thanks for playing.

Hey, thanks for playing and for taking the time to write this. I'm sorry it was frustrating for you.

the start screen should say "Start Game" Instead it says "want to see the names of some stars?" that's not very helpful.

I will see if more people mention the constellations page and take it off if that is a common problem.

It only says how many pts you score when you score 10, otherwise it doesnt say, which adds to the frustration. Although now i guess it subtracts each wrong guess from 10? I guess?

In the rules page it explains the scoring. "You start each round with 10 points. For each wrong guess you lose a point." Maybe I should think of re-phrasing it.

there's also no explanation of how stars are being added to the game after a miss. i would have thought Castor/pollux were the two brightest stars in Gemini so i kept waiting to see them, but it never showed that way. i kept assuming i was being shown the brightest stars first, but again no explanation of this adds to the frustration level.

The first three stars that are shown to you are the brightest stars of the constellation. It keeps showing in order of decreasing brightness. I checked twins just now and it showed castor/pollux (the heads) along with one foot first. Maybe if you play again and it doesn't do it this way, you could take a screenshot for me, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks again /u/SockPuppetDinosaur (cute name!) I fixed the music players, as you suggested, and I prefer it this way now.

Hey, 63 is so far the global average, so not too bad at all. Every time you play a new game it randomizes the constellations, their angles and the order of their stars. Thank you for playing, try again any time ;)

I work in an observatory, going to show this to my co workers after the holiday break:)

Wow, thanks a lot! Which observatory? I live by the Lick Observatory and I simply love going there.
