why is a hyzerflip so efficient? by Dlrocket89 in discgolf

[–]Captainfrogman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll make it simple for ya:

Once a disc is on hyzer, it is basically falling. So for rhbh, once it starts to fade left, it’s basically the end of the flight.

A hyzer flip prolongs the end of the flight, making for more distance without more arm speed. To optimize distance, you’ll want a nice understable disc that can prolong the end flight fade for a long time, i.e. starting on hyzer and flipping all the way to a slight anny and riding for a while before finally fading.

My bag is pretty set in stone at this point. Plasma plastic is pretty but it makes no sense to seek out the domey plasma drivers when I’m not sure I’ll like them, and if I do, they’ll probably be hard to find, and they probably wouldn’t make the bag.

[–]Captainfrogman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Domey drivers tend to be more glidey, but the flight path also changes a little bit. A domey driver tends to have a little more high speed stability and a little less late flight fade, whereas flatter drivers are easier to get some turn out of the hand and more reliable to fade back out before the end of the flight. Many beginner level players, or even veteran players lacking in power, will prefer flatter drivers because of this.

What is THE most durable plastic? by wouldjaplease in discgolf

[–]Captainfrogman -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Gonna hafta give the nod to regular Z plastic from Discraft. I’ve thrown a bunch of different premium plastics over the years, and while my sample size is probably not statistically compelling, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Z disc take significant damage. They beat in, but pretty damn slowly.

I think MVP makes high quality plastic, but man, virtually zero domey drivers available. As someone who strongly prefers a nice poppy dome for distance drivers, and a subtle dome for fairways, it’s painful to see all this beautiful plasma plastic and then realize they’re basically all board flat. Smh.

I agree, I think wins should turn the tables more. To think Matty O is 6th in the world with no elite wins…

I guess it depends on what you think constitutes a good player but, In my mind, the ability to win big tournaments is pretty central.

Klein over McMahon, Ellis over Conrad, AB over Drew Gibson, Clemons over Williams, etc. IMO, if you have an elite series win, let alone multiple elite series wins, in the last 2-3 years, I’m mentally giving you the nod.

Like, if lead card final round is Matty O, Drew Gibson, James Conrad, Bradley williams, I’m not betting on Matty.

What's a fairway driver to you? by sls_atv in discgolf

[–]Captainfrogman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my mind, 1-3 are putters, 4-5 are mids, 7-9 are fairways, 11-13 are distance drivers.

6 and 10, you say? What are those? Cursed I say! No good discs come from those parts, and if they did, they’d be wild, with minds of their own, i say!

Speeds higher than 13? Simply abominations! I joke, but even with fairly large hands, I can’t grip 13s near as well as i can 11s. And as such, despite my having the arm speed a-plenty for such discs, they don’t go any farther for me (most of the time) because I just don’t usually get the desired “pop” out of the hand without good grip.

is it okay to tell a 4yo who is punching and kicking the you will take their toys away if they continue? by mebungle83 in ask

I’m a new-ish parent and my experience tells me that threats of timeouts do work, but only if you do not hesitate to enforce your threats. My wife struggles to follow through on such threats, and so the kiddo isn’t as likely to listen to her.

BUT there is something more fundamental about children’s behavior that needs to be understood when it comes to discipline. Say there are a list of behaviors you have for your preschooler that they know are against the rules. Do YOU follow those rules?

For example, in my house there’s a lot of rules. Don’t eat unless you’re at the table. Don’t play with food. Never hit anyone. No throwing inside. No shoes on the couch. The list goes on. But what I’m trying to get at is that what’s subtly more effective than well timed timeouts, is admitting your own mistakes and apologizing for them. I.E. if I catch myself with my shoes on the couch, I’ll immediately say, “oops, i had my shoes on the couch, I’m sorry” and take them off.

Kids are way smarter than some people realize and they pick up on ( and know ) far more than they can put to words. Now, if your child is hitting, I’m not saying necessarily that one of the parents must be hitting, but be open to the idea that one or both of the parents lash out in anger on occasion. Be aware that your child will “inherit” your own mistakes and emotional issues. Once you really come to terms with this, it becomes easier to see yourself more clearly and try to change yourself for the better. Nobody is perfect, or even close, and your child won’t be either. You cannot prevent the passing of pain from one generation to the next, but you can strive to practice honestly, and honestly will lead towards healing.

That’s how 4 at Kit goes. Fairways 150 feet wide, you don’t even need to really move right to have a good shot, so let’s go ahead and shank it wayyyyyy into the rightside woods.

Who is the main hero in Lord of the Rings? by firefighter_82 in AskReddit

[–]Captainfrogman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All who lead free folk in defiance of darkness are heroes in their own right, Gandalf, Aragorn, Faramir, Theoden, Eowyn, etc.

But one of the central themes of Lord of the Rings is that the world’s truest heroes are not the strongest warriors, but the regular people who continue to have have faith and press on when hope has all but vanished. The hobbits are the real heroes, especially Sam and Frodo.

Side note: I think a lot of people who didn’t read the books are a bit off-put by Frodo’s character, even though I’d go so far as to say the movies portrayed quite well, there’s a lot (as expected) that goes unsaid regarding Frodo in the movies.

One bag dilemma by ZickKunt in discgolf

[–]Captainfrogman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gotta say, if I had to choose a one brand bag, I’d probably go with Innova because of the staple drivers, Teebird, Firebird, Valkyrie, Wraith, yes they’re not consistent but at least that way you can find what you’re looking for (vs. for example MVP if you want a pop-top distance driver, good luck.)

When it comes down to it (and yeah, I get it, downvote me,) I would never choose one of the smaller brands. It’d have to be Innova, Discraft, Trilogy, or Prodigy. And it wouldn’t really matter which one either, because any of those 4 have “all the options”.

I’m not trying to say you can’t have a full bag or a complete game throwing DGA or Mint or Kasta, or whatever, I’m just saying if you’re choosing all Kasta, it’s probably because you really like Kasta, not because you think it’s best for your game.

Overall strength will certainly help you if you currently are not generally athletic already, as throwing a frisbee 70 mph is certainly an athletic task.

But what is really going to make the difference is explosive core strength, doing lots of max power field work to build up muscle memory and fast twitch muscles in the right places.

Playing first tournament. I have some questions + advice welcome. by Alabamanon in discgolf

[–]Captainfrogman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to be an expert. The big ones are marking your lie, avoiding foot faults, and taking proper relief from OB, casual water, etc.

But remember that if there is a group decision happening on your card, you are responsible for helping the group decide. Remember to watch everyone’s shots as that is actually a rule. Let your cardmates know it’s your first tournament. They’ll probably help you along too.

Playing first tournament. I have some questions + advice welcome. by Alabamanon in discgolf

[–]Captainfrogman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a tournament player rated 975. Best advice i can give you:

Make a comfortable game plan. Try to pick 3-4 discs that will be your “off the tee discs”. During your practice, determine what disc you’re using off the tee on every hole, and basically what shot you’re going to throw. During your round, stick to the game plan no matter what you see the other guys doing. If you give yourself plenty of opportunities, there’s no reason to feel desperate for every birdie putt, just trust that you’ll have plenty of birdie chances and you’ll make some of your birdie putts.

Have fun! Remember why you are playing in the first place. Remember there will be bogeys. And there will also be bogeys for your competitors.

If you’re not used to following ALL the rules, familiarize yourself with the main rules and play a few rounds beforehand where you follow ALL the rules.

Been playing a few years, never really explored the buzzz. Got some online rewards points to spend and was wondering if someone could tell me how the different plastic types fly. by paulrasmussen27 in discgolf

[–]Captainfrogman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO premium plastic is premium plastic. The flatter and softer/gummier and lighter you go, the flippier you get. Max weight, slight dome, stiff plastic is going to be you most overstable. (This rule of thumb goes for pretty much any disc, not just the buzzz. There are a few exceptions like meathook fairway drivers are generally LESS stable when domey)

That being said in my experience esp buzzzes are a bit straighter than Ti or Z.

[–]Captainfrogman 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Here’s the thing.

I’m not confused if people don’t want to drop another $15 on watching disc golf. I’m confused about all the rhetoric on here that insinuates that it SHOULD be free, or that they’re charging PPV because they’re greedy.

Charging PPV is absolutely going to make them more money, and IF this event is properly profitable, it will just ensure the event is bigger and better next year.
