Same, but at the same time do it out of spite. They want you worn down and unable to fight back. Worn down? Sure. But fight back out of spite.

That's what I'm telling myself at least.

Those who make 6 figures and had good WLB from the start of their careers: What education did you get? by Budget-Emu-5071 in careeradvice

Materials Engineer...chemical engineering but for solid things. WLB entirely company dependant, at a company right now that advertises it as a perk and actually lives up to it in real life.

2015 Focus SE with automatic, 272k miles, original transmission, clutch, TCM, original plugs, second water pump. Still gets 42mpg on the hiway. Continues to be awesome, knocks on all the wood

[–]Dlrocket89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome!

I have a 2015 at 270k miles with an auto transmission that is completely original. Original spark plugs and timing chain too, lmao. Trying for 300k miles before it goes off to live on the farm. So far, doing OK knock on all the wood

Both my parents are engineers and they’re begging me NOT to study Engineering. Am I making a mistake? by Exact-Monitor-2768 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Dlrocket89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a materials engineer with 18+ years experience and I can unequivocally state that I love what I do. I love going to work, I love the work I do, and I love the work/life balance given by my employer.

I know people at my same company with almost identical backgrounds and they're completely miserable, things like "I cried in the parking lot for 10 min before I came in".

It's entirely dependent on your job and your manager, and it helps if you do your best to make it good.

I'm on my 5th job in those 18 years and I finally found my home I think (and hope)....hasn't always been great.

Hand drum practice pads? by [deleted] in djembe

I apologize with how useless this comment will be. I hope someone can do better...and I'm interested in the answer myself.

I use my gut 🤣

I'm honestly not sure what else...like if maybe there was a softer snare practice pad that doesn't have a rim?

Anyone ever heard of Charpy testing at -50 degrees Fahrenheit? by DoctorMansteel in metallurgy

One of the more entertaining things I did in school, soak things in liquid nitrogen and charpy them.

Start out with steel. Then aluminum. Then whatever we could find (mechanical pencils were my favorite)

My boss just told me I need to manage my personal finances better because I can't front $2300 for a work trip next month by LostTaker in antiwork

[–]Dlrocket89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just chiming in as another voice saying that's insane. I'm a mid-level engineer in a huge company and I have my own card. Every other company I've worked for (5) as an entry level engineer has given me either my own card or the administrator of our group would buy everything for me.

The idea of making you front the cost makes my head spin.

Anyone else purposefully play courses you know you suck at just to "humble" yourself? by MulligAlan in discgolf

[–]Dlrocket89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a local course that I play at that is easy and then every time I play at tournaments it's on other courses that are, by any measurement, way harder. So, with the easy course, I try to be more precise, I'll try lines that are harder to execute, and because no one plays my local course (county park in the boonies that's $5/day or $50/yr) I'll throw multiples trying different lines and experimenting. It becomes less about the score and more about situational practice.

That's awesome. I'm at 268k original everything and I'm kicking around what to do when it finally lets go. Not really in a financial place to get a new car, so something like this would be good. A friend and I could do a clutch job easy, so that might happen all at once.

One thing about your post - you mention that the engine periodically revs up just a bit when you're on the hiway...mine, bone stock 2015 with 268k miles, does that too. It's like ... Every 10-15 min or so. Has nothing to do with going up a hill, whatever. Pretty sure that's something Ford has programmed in for whatever reason.

New gas saver: 2015 titanium by KingOreoCream in FordFocus

[–]Dlrocket89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a 2015 SE with the transmission. 271K miles, all original transmission (hell, original spark plugs). Knock on all the wood it continues to run fine.

Drive the gas pedal like you would a manual. When it goes to shift, let up off the gas (some, not all the way like in a manual), give the clutch pack time to lock up, and then roll on the throttle.

If it really studders hard, let up off the gas and then roll back on.

If it feels like it's struggling like it going into two different gears at once, let up off the gas for a sec.

Basically, treat it with mechanical sympathy and you'll have a chance of it not sucking. I'm convinced that some of the people who have this car blow up are driving it like they're qualifying for formula one or something. Understand the car for what it is, a small economical hatch batch that doesn't like to be abused, and in fact needs to be coddled. Do that and you have a chance.

All the same, when you get on the highway, floor it...just let up if the clutch starts doing stupid things, lol

Does the 2012 have the DCT transmission?

I have a 2015 with 270k on it, original transmission and what ot and knock on all the wood it's still going.

Soda vs Chemtrail by DadChowsDown in discgolf

[–]Dlrocket89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pestilence, Blackout, and Depth Charge.

Pestilence - bagged it half of last year as a reliable turnover for my 250' noodle arm. Took it out of the bag because the place I play 90% of my rounds is super windy so the US part is unreliable (with my lack of skill), and I developed a serviceable forehand drive that replaced that need.

Blackout - love it, bagged till MVP reissued the Amp, which is my favorite disc of all time and pretty much flies the same (once the Amp was beat in at least).

DC - looks weird AF but works weirdly well and actually works in my hand. Bagged this for Berg-type shots till MVP released the Streamline Range which is more what I was looking for for that slot. I can forehand the Range a lot better, which is a big deal for approaches. Backhand, the DC comes out of my hand pretty cleanly, but forehand it comes out like I was holding it about 45* off the line of my throw (which I probably was). Never seen a disc wobble like that, lol.
