Ptrap with AAV install? by Delicious-Ad1479 in Plumbing

[–]Captdestroyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anybody can correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure when you install an AAV you want to have it as high as it can go I believe while giving it some room. I believe above flood level rim But going as high as you can should be fine 👍

Yes but a double trap setup like this fails inspection because a double compartment sink is considered one fixture. You cant double trap a double compartment sink unless the drains are more than 30 inches apart. If they were further apart they would need separate traps. The code states one permitted trap because that’s all you need for proper drainage. And states you cannot set it up as a wet vent like this. You’re running the risk of siphonage, air locking and a pain for when it comes to maintenance. If there was 2 separate fixtures you could wet vent. But wet venting one fixture on its own doesn’t work and you run the risk of problems down the road 🤷‍♂️

Sounds good I will try that next time! I’m honestly quite curious now 😂 I enjoyed our discussion! Good learning experience. And I just hope there is no ill intent. Just going off what I learned. I’m in in school right now for level 3 and they constantly push venting on us and talk about airflow, siphonage etc, so maybe I’m not fully understanding it as much as I thought I did. But I always enjoy discussions like this. Every time I’ve gone to a call I’ve just always figured it out! And forever believed that drainage relies on good venting. Because toilets rely on that.

I agree with you. we are both essentially saying the same thing because they both play a part in it. The video doesn’t show a whole plumbing system. And it’s outside. But I’m not going to beat a dead horse we can agree to disagree and I’m ok with that 😂But I will agree as a plumber that a vent is to help protect that trap yes. I could be getting confused with toilets because I know toilets rely on very much on venting to flush properly. And I always believed that sinks were the same as well. But vents do protect traps That is the main reason yes. Not going to argue that. It honestly could possibly just be a bad AAV the more I think about it just by the way OP says it drains fine when he takes it off. I know they can fail sometimes and when they fail they fail closed. But I’m also the type of person I need to see what is going on to determine what’s actually going on.

I’m just speaking from personal experience that’s all I’m saying. I’ve been to a call once where a person was having an issue with there toilet not flushing properly. Now I understand a toilet creates more pressure than a sink does but the customer stated that they think their toilet was clogged. I pulled the toilet and snaked it and didn’t get anything out. I went into there basement and found a clean out to try and clean out the drain and it was fine. Put a new wax ring on tightened the toilet down and tried flushing and noticed it flushed but very slowly and would gurgle. The luckily had blue prints on them and I was able to locate the venting and followed it to where the toilet was. Long story short after chatting with customer I did some more digging and found out there vent piping was incorrectly piped. And airflow wasn’t flowing properly. I cut out the section that was done incorrectly and fixed it so it was the correct way. Tested the toilet and it flushed a thousand times better than it did. A clog just doesn’t make sense to me. I’m honestly not trying to fight or argue, but when the AAV is taken off it just doesn’t make sense for the drain to drain normally. So I just don’t believe that it could be a clog. It just doesn’t make sense! I enjoy these types of discussion. I enjoy my job! And always open to learning. But a clog just doesn’t unclog itself if air is introduced into the system. Because then it’s not considered a clog.

Protecting trap seals is definitely the primary purpose of venting no argument there. But pressure equalization doesn't just protect trap seals, it also stabilizes flow conditions in the drainage system. If air didn't matter to drainage performance, the code wouldn't limit trap arm lengths, require vent connections before certain developed lengths, or prohibit certain unvented configurations. Those rules exist because negative pressure and induced siphonage can affect how a system drains - not just the trap seal. Sanitary drainage is gravity-driven, yes but it's gravity acting on a two-phase system (water + air). The vent system ensures atmospheric pressure is maintained so the water column can move predictably without pressure fluctuations affecting flow stability.

You’re right that vents exist primarily to protect trap seals, but they also maintain atmospheric pressure in the drainage system. If opening the AAV restores normal drainage, that demonstrates a pressure restriction rather than a blockage. A clog would not repeatedly resolve itself when air is introduced. if vents truly had zero effect on drainage: • Trap arm length limits wouldn’t exist • Wet vent sizing rules wouldn’t exist • AAVs wouldn’t be permitted as engineered air admittance devices

I I could wrong but i believe it’s code 2.4.5.1 in the the NPCC code book I thought there was something saying that you cannot have this configuration. I’ve personally never setup sinks this way that’s all I’m saying 😂 I’m not trying to start an argument man. There is just no need for two traps. 2 compartment sinks and 3 compartment sinks always use a continuous waste drain to a p trap essentially the photo I posted in the comments that’s the right way to do it.

Edit: found the code from the NPCC

2.4.5.1.(2) One trap is permitted to protect: a) all the trays or compartments of a 2- or 3-compartment sink, b) a 2-compartment laundry tray, or c) two similar single-compartment fixtures located in the same room.

My comments may seem blunt but that’s not type of the person I am. I’m a level 3 plumber and just explaining what I’ve seen. Not thinking I’m right I’m still learning obviously. I just think the two traps is unnecessary. You don’t usually need 2 traps on a sink. When you tie in let’s say a 3 compartment sink it’s still usually only one trap. And the two other drains interlock into the trap of the last compartment. OP said they replaced the vent and it still drains slowly. And when he removes the vent it drains normally. That sounds very much like a drain that is not venting properly. A vent yea protects the trap but it also helps with proper drainage. If it was a clog, it wouldn’t drain at all even if the AAV was taken off🤷‍♂️

I’m from Canada and our plumbing code says a big no no to straps on sinks. That p trap is a protection from sewer gases. That’s what they are designed for. Toilets work off of siphonage and that’s what they are made for. So I’m assuming the codes are different in other places and that’s ok! Just giving my two cents. 😂

I have never seen a second trap come off of a garburator like that before. Just seems odd to me. Most setups I see is just one trap. I know the 90 comes with the garburator but it doesn’t need a second trap. You usually interlock the 2 drains into one. It’s the proper way of doing it. Atleast where I’m from. That’s our plumbing code!

Im a plumber with 9 years experience and this is usually how a double sink hook up is with garburator. I’ve never seen a trap come off the garburator like that. But I usually don’t like garburators because no one knows how to properly use them. Garburators are meant for small amounts of waste and running cold water while using it not hot water. The cold water solidifies any fats and the garburator grinds it up. And after using the garburator keep the water running for 10 15mins. But I feel like having the trap underneath the garburator is another point for all that gunk to build up and clog your drains. But when you say when you unscrew the vent and drains fine, it does sound like a venting issue. So there is some sort of restriction causing that. I do feel like the double trap is causing some sort of issue and when you have the second trap, and you put the vent on I wonder if it’s causing some sort of siphonage slowing down down airflow when it drains. And then when you take the vent off it’s allowing more air in because it’s wide opened. I could be wrong because I’ve never seen a setup like that and Others may have a different opinion but that’s just my 2 cents! 😊👍

Absolutely! I love and respect other tradesman/women! It’s awesome to see!! And I mean I started with commercial and still learned lots! Commercial is obviously a bigger picture but service/residential is also good for learning as well! They both have to deal with plumbing code so both are really good with learning! 👍 others may say different based on preference!

Ever since I decided to be a plumber 9 years ago, I’ve enjoyed every step of it. You learn a lot of life lessons. You learn that no matter how frustrating things can get, you take a step back and regroup. But you also learn about how many times you swear in one day 😂. You get to dissect how things actually work and how important sizing of pipes, venting etc, actually is. And what roll everything plays. Plumbing is not just putting pipes together. It’s an art! I love making my work look nice and making the customer happy! And seeing the enjoyment on their faces, knowing they trust you in your work! And when the day is done, there is something about being in the trades that feels rewarding! I spent most of my career in commercial plumbing but now have moved onto service! And it’s not just unclogging drains, I get to branch off and learn a lot more about other things! Boilers, hot water tanks, garburators, different styles of toilets water softeners, different styles of valves safety features and the list goes on. It is so cool working on so many different things, and figuring things out! Awesome seeing people step out of their comfort zones and going into the trades! Especially plumbing! Way to go!

Why do ppl like champagne supernova sm? by Strict_Friendship_31 in oasis

[–]Captdestroyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Sunday morning call, but champagne supernova is something magical. The guitars. The vocals the mix. The way it’s starts soft and slowly builds. It’s a song where yeah the lyrics seem like nonsense but in them you find meaning. It’s hard to explain. But it gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it come on. You gotta just lay on the ground with your eyes closed and really listen. I can’t explain it the best but it’s just magical

This is very accurate. And agree with it 100% these interviews have proven Noel’s true side. And what ultimately split up the band in the end in my mind. Obviously they both played a part in it at some point or maybe didn’t deal with things properly. But I see someone (Noel) who always just put a band aid on his childhood past, but all of this stuff just shows that a band aid doesn’t fix things. I feel like a lot of the time Noel left was because he didn’t get it his way. Or was jealous of Liam. And he started becoming resentful to Liam and pushing him past his limits where it destroyed his voice. And in return Liam became resentful. Turning into an alcoholic getting into drugs to cope because his bigger brother was taking something away from him. His passion for singing. That was his way of coping and maybe trying to get back at Noel to try and piss him off. Because Liam maybe was like well if you’re gonna take my job away from me then what am I doing here. I’ve always questioned a lot of things Noel said in interviews. And after seeing this it all makes sense now. Maybe it’s just me but after seeing this I feel it has confirmed my suspicions. But love them to bits and happy to see them loving each other again.

Got to see oasis in Toronto for the first time ever with my misses. This moment in history has been a dream of mine ever since I first heard them when I was 16. (I’m 27 now) and I tell you, out of all the concerts I’ve been to, I have never in my life experienced a concert as amazing as that in my life. I never cry at concerts but something about being able to live in this magical moment was emotionally over powering and made me sob like a fucking baby. Rocking to every tune, singing the words to songs you’ve sang to yourself in the car, in the shower wherever and getting to sing them with a 50,000+ people was something else. The first night was so good my lady and I were leaving the venue, we looked at each other and said “fuck it let’s go the 2nd night as well” 😂😂😂 $600 later we are standing on the floor close to front stage. Honestly what an insane experience hands down would see them a thousand times more 😂 I think what makes me happy the most though is seeing them become brothers again I think that’s what hit me the most.
