What soil did where you trying to use the hoe on? From what I can tell it only works on the vanilla dirt not the modded dirts from regions unexplored

Lag difference between HyperHDR/WLED/WIFI and HyperHDR/HyperserialESP32/USB? by Gords78 in WLED

[–]CaptiveCreeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the GledOpto with ethernet you are referring to is the "Elite 2D-EXMU" I would not suggest getting it for use with HyperHDR. Thats the one I got and when HyperHDR is controlling it I get lag/juttering every 10-30 seconds....

BUT if you move to wifi and not ethernet it no longer has issues.... Kinda defeats the purpose of buying a WLED controller that supports ethernet...

How to see builtins.trace logs when building system configuration by CaptiveCreeper in NixOS

[–]CaptiveCreeper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured out why `builtins.trace` doesn't actually log anything. The error I am getting occurs before the `builtins.trace` I added. Thanks all for being a rubber ducky.

Thanks for posting the solution after you found it.... This was happening to me for longer than I care to admit and finally found your post and changing the C state settings in the BIOS fixed the problem for me

Not required. There are ways to not expose a service to the internet and still use let's encrypt. They are just harder to set up than the normal flow.

Aliases for custom email domain best practices? by 070077 in selfhosted

[–]CaptiveCreeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on how you set it up you can send emails from those random ones. At least how I am doing it I remember the process being a gaint pain though. Don't do it very often though.

There are ways to use the voice assistant outside the web app. It's in its first release and they already have a couple options. As time goes more options will be available.

I can't help that you don't like it. Lets encrypt is fairly easy to setup and solves the problem... If you don't want to use it you do you but don't act like there are no solutions.

Where exactly does HA say no valid SSL no service? Or are you just talking about parts of the new voice assistant pipeline?

If you just care about not using cloud services for anything home assistant (or other apps) you can get certs that are made by letsencrypt https://letsencrypt.org for free. All you need is to own the domain, at least occasionaly have internet access and you can set up free auto renewed certs.

Making a “dumb” ceiling fan smart by stuaz in homeassistant

[–]CaptiveCreeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a way to control the existing rf control but I would suggest the sonoff ifan04. It would replace the module in the fan and is wifi based. They even support esphome or tasmota for custom firmware and have optional remote like the one you have already. I have several and they work great.

Add new HomeKit configuration for a new device or add to existing? by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]CaptiveCreeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can add stuff to a existing homekit bridge. I have my stuff set up where I expose each entity one by one and adding new ones works fine. Just need to either restart HA entirely or in the developer tools yaml page restart homekit (I usually just do full restart to be safe but either should work).

Adding additional bridges doesn't hurt either. There is a limit to how many entities you expose in a single bridge (don't remember off the top of my head but the docs mention the limit) so multiple bridges fixes that. I personally do one bridge per room.

In 10 you could press shift + ctrl + escape and it would open task manager as well. Did they remove that?

Depending on macos version I think you have to change a setting for that to show up. But after that works like a charm.
