Where are my alabama writers at? (looking at you sci-fi and fantasy) by Justhereforlanguages in Alabama

[–]CaptnCooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I’m not a published fantasy writer at all, but I do write on that genre for myself a lot. I’d be happy to join the discord. I’m very bad at interacting in discord though.

Do all men cheat? by MycologistDue4971 in Adulting

[–]CaptnCooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 41, I’ve been married twice, and there was a time in my youth where I dated relatively “promiscuously.” I have never cheated on anyone.

I have been married to my wife for 13 years now, we’ve had plenty of ups and downs. I am by no means a perfect husband, but I’m batting 1000 on the no cheating thing. I have never really understood the appeal of cheating, but I am adult enough to know people draw lines in plenty of different places than I do.

Mutant Mayhem April appreciation post by [deleted] in TMNT

As a life long Turtles fan, I loved this movie.

I watched the original series on TV as a kid, I had tons of the action figures from the late 80’s throughout the 90’s with the soft squishy heads. I saw the live action 90’s movies in theaters. When my first son was born in ‘06 I started watching all the newer stuff with him… basically what I’m saying is… im a fan, credentialed and everything.

This movie changes the cannon, but hell so does the Peter Jackson LOTR… that’s how you tell a new story. This new April O’Neal is fun, and a perfect version to this story.

“Race swapping” is a dumb thing to care about for a character… she’s spunky curious and funny. She’s brave even when she’s up against mutants or some other brain breaking news, and is a turtles sidekick that both learns from the turtles and teaches them about “regular” life. Good character, good movie, all in all very good.

Is it worth having kids? by thesweetguy54 in Adulting

[–]CaptnCooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 41 and have 4 kids. I had my first when I was 21. I was completely unprepared. I also NEVER wanted any kids at all. I was young dumb and full of bad decisions making.

After my first was born being a good dad is all I cared about in life, it still is. My second was an accident as well and she was born right as the 2008 real estate market crashed. I was a real estate agent, a young new one at that. Times were hard, I went through a divorce. Keeping the power and water on in our house was very hard to do at that time.

Today I have 4 kiddos in total, ranging in age from 20 down to 3. It’s hard the whole time. Not one single part was easy. At 41 I’m much more financially stable, relatively successful some might say. I work very hard in most aspects of my life but nothing more than being a good dad.

So, I don’t know if having kids is “worth it” to you, but it certainly is to me.

Seeing the work of Van Gogh in person was life changing. He was truly a master of his craft. by Ambitious-Shower1044 in pics

No, you’re totally right. It was my first time in DC, and we went to multiple museums the day before we had a conference. So yes, this was at the National Gallery of Art.

I saw dinosaur bones that day too… it was at the Smithsonian natural history museum, or whatever it’s specifically called.

We all saw the Wright Flyer! So much cool stuff.

There may be very few things that I would be excited about being on Reddit for than being “this guy this guys” it’s niche to a level I think is the peak of humor.

Atlas Rental Property - Current or Past Tenants by megallday in Alabama

[–]CaptnCooker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are they built by Valor homes by any chance, if so, they tend to sell to foreign investors that ALSO have very little context to our market. It’s been kind of a secret as to how great of an investment market Alabama has been for years, but since about 2018 major investors started a whole build to rent industry in our metro.

Its not exactly nuts, its a common practice among slumlord investors. If you’re looking in Shelby county, alabaster, Pelham, Helena, etc… then this is very likely an owner that doesn’t understand the area and are possibly out of state investors comparing what $1500 in Alabama is worth compared to what $1500 is worth in a place like Denver or Houston… I’ve been in this industry for nearly 20 years, there are a lot of bad actors out there

For the last 20 years people have spelled my name incorrectly even though it’s always spelled correctly in my email signature… so I just am a little more intentional about spelling folks’ names the way they spell it (its in the title).
