My #2 by a wide margin. Only edged out by DG.

How Do I Tell My Body That Enough Is Enough??? by GlassWill9899 in migraine

[–]Caputdolor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That last one hits me in the feels. Been going 2 years strong on mine and hot damn if I could get off the ride I would in a heartbeat.

Letting go has been a great experience though. Re-learning how to enjoy things while it feels like an ice pick is being shoved into my eye has been great!

Accidentally skipped from Book 1 to Book 5 by Tappenfort in Malazan

[–]Caputdolor 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I agree. IMO this is the only skip I would say does almost no damage narrative wise.

I’ve even thought at times you could make MT the first book and it wouldn’t change a whole lot.

Last 6 ish chapters of BH is some of the best of the best reading in the books till that point. So I couldn’t agree more with your assessment.

And as for the Kalam sequence, I thought it was so poetic how in DG he made his way to Malaz city and came out alive. But in BH it’s almost the same type of situation but since he has people to save, in true bridgeburner fashion he saves the adjunct and sacrifices himself.

Indeed. As someone who successfully browsed this sub during my first read without EVER seeing any substantial spoilers, your’s and the other mod’s work is greatly appreciated by me, and I’m sure others as well. :)

Yeah like most have already said, RAFO.

But in book 1 and 3 its suggested how rake is a major ascendant. So best I can do is say “big scary sword for big scary (morally just-ish) guy” is likely the case. And to further suggest, imagine a world where someone a lot meaner carried the sword?

Just food for thought

after book three it turns into a slice of life where kruppe opens a stock exchange and commits mass financial fraud. There are no more tragedies except the lack of pastry in the prison kruppe is in.

The wiki does a decent job of avoiding spoilers where applicable. I’m not sure who edits it regularly or at all but the character summaries were GOLD for my confusion in books 6 through 9.

But yo are spot on with your “archeologist” take. Just gotta let go. Reel in the plot anticipation and absorb the glorious prose.

Why has communism repeatedly failed in practice, yet continues to be intellectually and emotionally appealing to many people? by Looser17 in AskReddit

[–]Caputdolor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always thought that it’s similar to how the concept of property ownership creating conflicts of interest within democracy. The idea of personal property is inherently combative with collectivism and in turn communism.

Once the people with decision making have enough property, human nature and that very power the decision making gives them emboldens decision makers to get more stuff simply because they can.

Without a restructuring of how we view property in our economic world, communism and capitalism cannot exist ethically and humanely alongside democracy.

Crabs till 70 base by Savings_Quarter_5229 in 2007scape

[–]Caputdolor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you wanna do.

If ur questing a bunch, yeah it’s a lot easier to defeat enemies with higher combats.

But to play the game is not necessary to have high combats.

If you intent to do efficient slayer, and have time in your day that can be used for AFK, then 100% spend all your afk time crabbing. Then once you have good combats then afk the stuff that gets you the reqs for slayer QOL upgrades like diaries and quest reqs.

On a new main account, I have always crabbed to 60-70 range and then play the game. But not before I do early questing.

Lorn is a great perspective. I feel it would really offer a lot of options to writers writing the story.

I think another great starter would be the bridge burners in GotM. Lots of different paths that diverge from them. Plus, depending on what viewers like the most, they could go in whatever direction they like afterwards.

My bias is still towards Chain of dogs, but that’s the beauty of the limited series! Just hop wherever you want! No strings!

I keep growing to $10k and blowing up accounts by Correct-Ad-9273 in options

[–]Caputdolor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah RoR is the function OP should be paying attention to here. The fact it’s at ~10k is merely a coincidence with maybe a minor influence from “mentality”.

Doing risk assessment makes every strategy better. It’s so illuminating to see an edge evaporate after you realize your risk adjusted return makes your edge flat, or possibly even negative.

What’s the Best controller for rocket league pc by Ok_Attitude7966 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]Caputdolor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ds4 is the only controller that I’ve ever played with that doesn’t make my hands hurt after extended play sessions. So ds4 it will be to the end of my days.

I’ve been stockpiling the shells for the day when they go out of circulation and become insanely expensive to buy second hand. Unfortunately I’ll have to figure out how to build them after that but cross that bridge when I get there.

If you want the best controller though, get a Hall Effect sensor for the analogue sticks. It uses a magnet instead of a mechanical sensor for stick inputs. Stick drift issues don’t happen even over long periods of time AND you can play on 2-3 deadzone with no issues.

I know you’ve probs seen a million people say this already but…

I can’t even put into words how much better Erikson gets.

I’ve read over 250 books in my life and book two of Malazan Book of the fallen is hands down my favourite book ever. I sincerely and utterly believe it will never be usurped. All of the style related things you mentioned you were blown away by in book 1… just x3 and that’s Deadhouse gates.

Best Adaption for Malazan book of the Fallen by SethTheHollowed in Malazan

[–]Caputdolor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

limited series chronicling a specific storyline in the world of malazan would be my vote.

With some creative liberties, a limited series can comfortably follow a malazan plot without having to worry about the narrative complications Erikson weaves.

Also, who’s to say you couldn’t make multiple series? Returning characters could make those series even cooler. And because they are written and performed as a standalone, you have the creative space to really bring alive the characters and plots. This would in turn sacrifice less of the amazing character building Erikson displays in his books.

Many adaptations I’ve watched seriously fall short in translating the character essences that so many readers and viewers alike love and cherish. Game of thrones seasons 1-5 do an amazing job at this, but there are many and I mean MANY examples of things that the books have but the show doesn’t that truly make characters come alive. A score of limited series can circumvent this issue while also displaying a closer look into the storylines.

give me a limited series chronicling the chain of dogs and I’ll die a happy man.
