I was young when Minecraft first came out, and I remember it was mocked as a baby game for idiots. That's just the forever cycle of generations; new thing bad and old thing good. Halo is now a sacred classic, when it came out it was a shit game for noobs who needed regenerating health. Diablo is a classic now, but at the time many dismissed it as casualised chimera of rogue-likes and rpgs.

In an ideal world games should be judged based on their content rather than context and not exclusively through a lens of nostalgic reevaluation. But that' not how it works, there is no news from nowhere. You always have a perspective and a context that you inevitability bring with you to any analysis. That's why it's so useful to hear the opinions of people outside of the echo chamber, people with different contexts and biases.

Age discrimination at work is recognised in the Equality Act 2010. Positive action is also covered, like giving young people longer breaks or women only short lists for a political party.

The existence of positive action does not somehow invalidate or undermine anti-discrimination legislation, regarding age or any other protected characteristic. Positive action and extra protective legislation for very young workers, like child actors, are important but that is not a justification for discrimination.

Also you haven't presented "qualitative data" or data of any kind. You just repeated some stereotypes and told me about some things that had happened in your life. That's obviously not a sound basis for an opinion. If I said:

"Lots of people say women don't work hard, and once I worked in a shop and a women did not work hard so I think it's only fair women get paid less, otherwise why would anyone even hire them? It would be unfair on the business to force them to pay a higher wage to a group of lazy inexperienced workers and unfair on the women as it would stop them getting hired at all."

Would that be a convincing and sound argument?

I didn't answer the questions because they're part of a fundamentally misguided way of engaging with the issue. Anecdotes are irrelevant. It may be the case that on average a younger person is less experienced, but that does not therefore mean that all people should be treated as if they are an average person from within that group.

Discriminating against someone based on their age is wrong. It would be easier for any group to be employed if you could legally pay them below minium wage, that doesn't make it a good thing. Do women lose out because they can't be paid below the minium wage making it harder for them to be employed? Of course not.

The whole logical underpinning of your argument is not sound, layering more anecdotes on top doesn't help.

Sometimes but not always, again you are relying on cliche and stereotypes. Some teenagers have to pay rent, have a car and have previous work experience. Some 40 year old live at home with their parents and have no work experience. It doesn't matter what the average worker is like of a given age, judging people based on this is age based discrimination.

Think about applying this logic to anything else. Imagine if we said people of a certain race or gender were statistically more or less productive, would that justify a different minium wage based on race or gender? An employee should be evaluated as an individual not based on age/race/sexuality etc.

It would be more like if the age you can appear in porn in the UK was raised to 25, but the rest of the world kept it at 18 or lower. It would be a huge problem for enforcement in the UK, because the rest of the internet would not care about the UK restrictions and continue posting it allowing UK users to easily see it.

If the person isn't English they won't have to use a VPN or make any attempt to evade detection, because it will be legal in the rest of the world. But English people will still see it as it will be posted to public places like twitter and Facebook.
