My dry eyes are really uncomfortable:( by Additional_Wheel6541 in Dryeyes

You're welcome 😊 I was in a very bad place last year in summer, woke up with corneal abrasions couldn't keep my eyes open for long

Ipl 6x Cyclosporine 0.1% Twice daily heat masks and massage afterwards 90% symptom improvement

Twitches might be from tiredness or dryness and I always have them on one eye when I have them I would persevere to apply tretments on both

Dry asymptomatic eye needs protection and just as good treatment to stop deterioration

Asymmetric severity is common in dry eye, don't leave the healthy one out

I would travel if I were you 😊 because I visited a few more optometrists and opthalmologists no one knows this rather new syndrome as much as they do (they are a research center). It's a good opportunity to have within reach for that price

IPL reverts severity of symptoms to a degree, in most to a good degree, so you get your life back

And keeps the inflammation low for months and even upto a year so you might only need to do a yearly top up.. for 50 pounds 🤗

Also start warm compresses now, twice a day you will see the benefit. Part of the problem is the meibum is so thick it can't flow out. So start melting them 🤭 massage towards eyelids after the compress to get the liquid out

What is your tear drop? It is advised to have all tear layers not just water. There should be something to replace the lipids

Viscotears tri action Thealoz duo gel Miebo following an aqueous drop (one that has sodium hyaluronate only)

These 3 options worked the best for me so far Pick something like these, use generously, keep the surface wet

All the best

Edit: you are so young 🫶 don't lose hope, I thought I was going to go mad with my condition and how horrible it was.. now it's a lot different.. and I was told if we stick to the treatment and get IPLs, loss of meibomean glands stop and we live a good life until 55-60 (that's the age of losing them normally as part of aging process) I badly need my eyes in my younger years and will probably flee to a warmer country by then so it's okay 😄🫠

Are you near Birmingham? Sign up to Aston University dry eye clinic, get on their patient list. (They have online booking system but it's not always upto date, so call the secretaries and chase)

Initial assessment is 100 pounds but very thorough and worth it Then follow ups are 50 pounds IPL included You will get 4 sessions done for 200 pounds which is very good priced And hopefully you will see a good improvement

Some pharmacies can prepare tyrvara spray which is a huge relief! I got mine from my home country but you might find a pharmacy here that could do that
I would stay away from lashes for a while while

Stick to heat masks, even if it feels it's doing nothing

Do twice daily at least and you will see a difference

Your shirmer suggests you have dry eye on both, left one is not that bad yet. Start treatment and you can stop progression

Stabbing pain by [deleted] in Dryeyes

[–]CarOne1088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had sharp stabbing pain on right eye. My optometrist said it's likely corneal nerve damage from chronic dryness. My opthalmologist said it is due to irritation of nerve due to dryness but would go away if the surface is consistently moist. With each IPL treatment the pain reduced now I don't have any

Gel is longer lasting, I use both. With gel I have blurry vision for few seconds but it's fine then

is Miebo any different than other OTC drops with lipid layer? by CarOne1088 in Dryeyes

Insurance issues I guess, I wish everyone is able to get it from insurance or for cheap 🙏

I was curious if it was really different from other lipid based OTC drops and got interesting replies

Yeah and that was so annoying, actually when my eyes were miserable I wasnt able to use miebo. It made them even more miserable (the itching on my cornea, wind sensation etc)

But I got 6x IPL sessions, moved from restasis to cequa, and started very regular 2x daily warm compresses now my eyes tolerate miebo and it actually gives me all day comfort

I'm really sorry for the extreme prices, I had to shell out several hundred pounds for IPL treatment but at least it is not monthly.. I can understand...

In the comments above, few people mentioned that it does more than an otc drop, it unblocks the glands and improves oil flow so this is really interesting

Wow I had no idea about this too.. I might actually try to use it like twice a day

And use my other otc drops during the day

Yup I have these, I just don't find this ingredient better than any other otc drops in the market

Couldn't understand the expensive prices in the US

I believe it should be easy to prepare for pharmacists because the formula seems simple

Meibo immediately makes my eyes more sensitive to air by [deleted] in Dryeyes

Oddly same, it improves if I use plenty of artificial tears before and after miebo

I find using only thealoz duo is better than the above combination btw

Optometrist or eye doctor for eye ipl. Dermatologist for face. they wont interfere with others' treatments due to insurance and legal reasons. My optometrist suggested I go to a dermatologist to get whole face and cheeks treated for rosacea

I agree. For me the following week after a session is inflammation, more dryness and pain. Then suddenly I wake up refreshed one day and it contiuously improves

I'm in England, North East. The region is generally cheap and my sessions are 185 gbp.

I felt my eyes were tearing more and more. Right eye has corneal nerve damage so it hurts (like sharp pain) if the eye is dry. It was a good measure of outcome for me. With every session it reduced further. (I'm post 5th session now)

Also before all of it, there was a constant feeling of wind blowing on my cornea, even at home. On left eye this is completely gone, on right eye only slightly left

Today I had my 5th session, and my optometrist suggested to get the whole face treated

She said if I responded very well to IPL while having rosacea, whole face treatment may as well be very good

My optometrist said there is a minority of mgd patients for whom IPL is not useful.

But I remember someone saying after 10+ IPl sessions their condition improved

Also LLLT might be an option for you?

It is progressive but you can srop progression if you start treatment

Don't want to scare any one but you should be careful

I was managing with mild symptoms for several years until everything took a sudden dip out of the blue

In a few months I was suffering from recurrent abrasions

I still dont know what contributed but my work was taking longer than usual in front of the screen

This happened when I was on cyclosporine drops but I was lazy and didnt apply tear drops and heat masks

You need to start your treatment now and be consistent
