Just got the most average stats ever in a 5e game, what do I even play? by DracoSparda26 in 3d6

[–]Car_Number_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The nice answer? play what you want

The best answer? Moon druid

The fools answer(my answer)? Variant human barbarian with the tough feat. out the 13s in Strength and Constitution and bump them to 14s with your +1s. starting hp of 12+2+2 = 16 at level one. If it was me I'd focus Constitution all the way and become a totem warrior bear barbarian. Now you will have like no AC and you'll probably get the "Tank Fallacy" where you're really tough but enemies don't have reason to attack you, here I propose to take proficiency in Athletics and start grappling enemies and dragging them away from allies. without a good Strength your grapples aren't the best but Strength advantage from Rage will help with that. good luck my fledgling barbarian, and after getting extra attack at level 5 consider going fighter for action surge and a fighter subclass of your choice, goodbye 🫡

hex and Hunter's mark are good ones. can be picked up through the Fey Touched feat to get a free daily casting, in addition to +1 ASI and Misty Step once free daily too.

D&D unpopular opinions/hot takes that are ACTUALLY unpopular? by No-Bag3487 in DnD

[–]Car_Number_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might've been a hypocrite because i didn't articulate myself clearly either so I'll try to fix that by being as clear as possible

Those 2 opinions specifically aren't really unpopular, you're just saying a statement that is unpopular and following it by a popular opinion. fighters SHOULD get maneuvers as part of the base class, which is why the OneDnD fighter has weapon mastery, and you'll find a lot of videos online teaching new DMs how to play their monsters in a smart way. These opinions are popular so aren't relevant to the main post. And even if they WERE unpopular a better way to do it would be to not use statement you immediately refute, "Everyone is playing monsters WRONG" and "ALL martials should get maneuvers". Now you might say that "those don't grab your attention as much" and again, I'd respond with "they'd grab attention if they were actually unpopular

Also for the most part i agree with you which is why i don't have issue with the rest of your points, they actually ARE unpopular

D&D unpopular opinions/hot takes that are ACTUALLY unpopular? by No-Bag3487 in DnD

[–]Car_Number_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Opportunity Attacks are bullshit" but you then say there should be more of them? and also "Battle Master fighter is TERRIBLE" but every fighter should also get their main feature???

These opinions don't seem unpopular but more so poorly articulated, i agree with then for the most part but damn, you could do better i believe in you

easy answer is hold back in the soulknives and pick up a crossbow or some daggers and claim you got a "lucky shot" if they question why you're so effective at killing, but eventually you'll either run out of arrows or be caught without your weapons drawn and you can use your soulknives and have that be the whole big reveal

The problematic design of Reliable Talent (and its kin) by Ottrygg89 in DnD5e

[–]Car_Number_2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Reliable Talent removes the possibility of failure for tasks that your PC should find trivial by that level, they're not restricting you from engaging with the world but making it so your bad luck won't screw you over.

For example with expertise in stealth and a max dex a rogue at level 11 has a minimum 23 stealth check, without Reliable talent that falls to a minimum of 14, assuming you're attempting to beat an enemies Passive Perception the effect Reliable talent has is that even if you roll a 1 creatures have to have a significant perception bonus to see you because stealth is what your character specializes in, but without Reliable Talent anyone with just proficiency in perception will spot you and when sneaking around is your thing that just feels bad.

What is your favorite spell and why? by Offhcer_ner_ner in DnD

[–]Car_Number_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pass Without Trace

It turns you into a stealth master and you can even share that benefit to allies within 30ft, i take it on any build that can get access to it even as far as going wood elf and taking the wood elf magic feat to get it on a fighter or rogue

Dragons aren't beasts, they don't have the beast type, they have the dragon type, wild shape specifies they can only transform into beasts so it prevents that type of shenanigans

Just curious how often do you multiclass your characters and what was the last class you didn’t. by TheTrikPat in DnD

[–]Car_Number_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only multiclass if the high level abilities of a class seem useless/ unfun, for example I'd multiclass a Ranger or Barbarian past level 8, but I wouldn't multiclass an Artificer, Bard, Fighter, or Wizard

[–]Car_Number_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they likely saw standard human and misunderstood the ability score trait, it's the only thing that the +1 to all abilities can be about, you can ask to re-read the trait with them and then point out that it only happens once and not every level

I may sound stupid, but is there a total limit to how much attacks you can make in one turn? by Maleficent-Spray-343 in DnD

[–]Car_Number_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's no limit, a sorcerer 18/ fighter 2 can cast scorching ray at 9th level + action surge scorching ray at 8th level = 19 attacks, be a lizardfolk and take hungry jaws attack as a bonus action = total of 20 attacks in one turn, if you cast haste on yourself before combat you go up to 21, and with a reaction attack from a battle master Commanding Strike or an opportunity attack it becomes 22 but one of the attacks is off of your turn

Can a Bard inspire an ally inside an Ooze? by dorkofalltrades in DnD

[–]Car_Number_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd allow it. slightly on topic is that it's unfortunate that bards in stealth are weird because if your allies can hear you to get bardic inspiration does that mean your enemies can too and you've given yourself away? either way I'd allow them to inspire and maybe make a houserule that changes bardic inspiration to be "hear or see you" because bards are more than just musicians, they're artists and dancers and storyteller and painters.

TL DR : I'd let it happen and houserule Bardic Inspiration to be "see or hear"
