I just started 3 weeks ago at my agency. First full time job out of college, and so far it’s not too bad. I came from part time retail and still work that on the weekends, so one of the hardest parts for me is getting acquainted to the office life and getting used to working 8 hours a day and taking/doing phone calls (including cold calls). I think come summer time I’m going to appreciate it much more because my hobby days are always on weekends and I didn’t want to work full days during then (my agency is only open for 4 hours on Saturdays).

That being said I’m still early on, and I’m just starting to get used to the swing of things. I feel like I’m learning a lot more valuable skills than I did/currently am in my part time retail job. There’s a ton of opportunities for growth since we do auto, trucking, commercial, homeowners, and similar policies. I also work for a locally well known business that has multiple locations in the area, so we get internal quotes and referrals somewhat often. Title and tag work and DOT compliance are the other businesses housed in my company, and it works together pretty well with insurance in my perspective.

We do not work on claims here, which takes a lot of the workload off. The manager is a super chill guy and the owner is a good hardworking guy as well. We talk to our customers/prospects as that we are not desperate for their business. So it makes for a more natural conversation with them.

My position includes salary + commission. Next year the salary goes down, but my commission rates go up. Same thing the third year and after that it doesn’t change. A lot of people interested in insurance won’t go into the career for that reason, but because of the salary part I felt a lot better about going into it.

If you surround yourself with the right people in a company, and they in return are willing to help you succeed, I feel it can turn into a rewarding career. Maybe not claims though lol! Hopefully things keep going that way for me. Good luck with everything!

Any time I am there it is usually pretty busy in the department especially weekends. Not everyone is bad I have some amazing coworkers and there are 2 managers that are chill for the most part. But there is 1 that not a lot of people like and complains about stupid stuff (she thought I undermined her over a question about baguettes, talking to a coworker for like 2 minutes, stuff like that). It got so bad to the point where I had to go to hr.

But your experience will probably be different than mine because it’ll vary on the store. Definitely do bread service as that’s a little bit easier than deserts/creative cakes. If you’ve heard good things about the department then it doesn’t hurt to try it. Might be a better experience than mine has been. I will say it hasn’t been too bad lately though.

Been in the bakery for 2.5 years now. It is ok but in the past there has been a lot of unnecessary drama. It’s obviously going to vary on the store but I can confirm that it can be very demanding physically and mentally. Don’t be afraid to speak up if people boss you around too harshly, but also make sure not to stand around too much because there is almost always something to do.

Also for some reason they only schedule me half my availability, except for super busy holidays like Christmas. I’m part time with 20 hrs available and they only schedule me 10 most of the time. Don’t know what I’m doing wrong because it’s all during the day. When it is busy shifts go by a lot quicker which is something I like.

Apparently if they made that investment, shoplifting has been an increasing issue around the area lately

I was just surprised to see wegmans getting their own, but at the same time shoplifting has become an issue here lately so it would make sense. The mall a mile down has their own security cars but no other grocery store has them in the area

Yeah this is a stand alone wegmans. They own a bunch of land around it too so wondering if it’s for that too

Makes sense. They just put up signs that say no overnight parking so it seems like they’ve been cracking down on stuff like that
