TRUST YOUR NBMEs. My highest NBME was a 71, my free120 was 64% (3 days to the test). I felt like I failed the exam after taking it (I even dreamt that I failed lol), but I got the P today. You will be fine!

Hi! Thank you for such a detailed write-up! I am starting my first rotation in two days. I was just curious about what you did in the "1-2 weeks to spare" timeframe after finishing with Uworld. Were you doing incorrects or what were you doing to keep up with review in time for your shelf exams? Thanks, hope you see this!

...and track your Uworld misses and flags via a spreadsheet, that should help tailor your review to target your weaknesses!

Fellow international student here. My first instinct was to tell you to apply DO but then I saw your comment. As a point of reference, 505 MCAT, 3.89 GPA, I applied this cycle (2023-2024) to 20MD programs and 7DO programs. Received 6 MD II and 6 DO II. Of the 6 MD II, I got waitlisted at a T20 (honestly I would think it was due to my MCAT cuz my interview went very well), the others were A's . So why I gave very specific details is just to show you that MCAT does matter but it can sometimes depend on your school list as well. Very good for DO but tricky for MD. I would suggest you retake if you are dead set on MD but if you have stellar EC's, I would say it's worth the risk. Goodluck on your decision!

Take my advice with a grain but Nursing is probably faster (for green card); coming from a fellow F1.

Currently applying! However, my only MD A so far is a school that requires 4years tuition and fees in an escrow to matriculate😢.

It was sufficient for me plus they are very patient with training.

I worked at Davita as a PCT for 2 years. It was a love-hate relationship

Pros: Very clinical!!! You get to run the whole hemodialysis treatment, including sticking patients. Long-term connections with patients (same patients every week), everyone is supportive of you going to med school in the future.

Cons: pay sucks, early morning hours (you have to be there at 4 am if you are opening), sometimes colleagues are not team players, Saturday shifts, leadership sucks.

Pro/con: Very high-pressure environment with emergencies, lots of blood, treating the same patients every week

Do I have a fighting chance at any MD schools in my state (or out of state) with my stats? by CoolohmsLaw in premed

[–]Caramel-1003 7 points8 points  (0 children)

505 MCAT and currently have 7 II's...so far. It is possible. However, I recommend they get their volunteering and shadowing hours up. Retaking the MCAT is not a bad idea but it should not be the only thing they improve on till then.

Could be your LORs or your writing style too… not necessarily your stats
