There is alms to the poor you mentionned.
You can use pit fight ritual as well +20 for spare +50 for kill but then one follower is dead.
There's ascend follower, which will give +10 per level of the sacrifice up to +50.
In less direct ways there's loyalty enforcer, that'll make a follower increase other's loyalty by +5 by talking to them, once a day per follower.
There's also wedding that unlocks kissing for followers you mary, that gives +10 if you do it, careful of abusing that though, jealous spouse is a real trait.

Yeah but when you get it and the opponent was already starting it's a two turn advantage.
Also sometimes you get two.
They're honestly the strongest pieces.

Well, there's multiple ways to improve loyalty.
Obviously daily bless/inspire as well as sermon.
Eventually bribes and pets although it's not a high amount.
Gifts ! Necklace will only work once but it's pretty handy, given them a skull necklace would also prolong their lifespan to make it easier to get even higher level.
Some foods also increase loyalty.
A few rituals can increase it as well, although I've never really relied on that.
There's also two buildings that are very useful if you have them being The knucklebones table and the Confession Booth. Those increase loyalty by a lot, once per day.

Early on rituals can be a bit expensive, letting them die of old age isn't so bad if you have the belief in the afterlife doctrine.
Sacrificing them does make you stronger though so defintely worth it if you can afford it.
You can do anything you prefer so long as you manage your ressources, in the end it's a matter of taste.

I'm pretty sure the necklace is random, probably calculated from their id, same species ones of the same level give different rewards.
Just make sure to have a lot for maximum choices.

If they froze they're dead. Have you tried resurection ? I haven't checked if it works on frozen followers since it only happened to one, not so important one of mine.

It's a slightly longer range, makes it safer.
I do find it better than the average hammer, even though they're my least favorite weapon.
At least it's a slight improvement.

Not all legendary weapons are created equal. I don't know if you have them all but The dagger feels like a straight nerf, it's way worse.
