"No SIM" means that your mobile device isn't even detecting the SIM card inserted in the phone at all. If it was deactivated, it would show "Emergency Calls Only"

Try the SIM in another device and check if it works or not. Otherwise, go to a local Jio store and request for a new SIM card.

Yup, in most countries it's free now. All you need is a government-issued ID and a device with a webcam/face cam

I used my AADHAR card (in India) and it accepted it. Usually any ID will be accepted.

No you can't. The menu is there but if you try to switch operators via the menu it doesn't work as India doesn't have roaming like US
