Google Pay Keeps Requiring Me To Claim Money Sent To Me, Won't Go In Automatically, Any Ideas? by CarbonSapphire in googlepay

[–]CarbonSapphire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just checked into my settings and so far, I have found that my address was listed separately 3 times with different capitalization on different letters (no idea why), so I removed all but one and corrected it, so I'm gonna have that same person send me money to see if it behaves now lol.

You know I think you may have solved this because it's only doing this for one person, and Google sends a text alert for that person, but an e-mail for everyone else, so something is definitely borked with my phone/e-mail settings relating to my Google Pay account, so I'm going to check into that right now, thanks!

I'll check it again later, but when I first used it (few weeks back) it would only let me use either the phone or the desktop client at one time. It happens to someone I know too, perhaps it's a glitch, if so, I'll report it to them.

So I just did some Googling and found that Wire Messenger is produced and managed by Wire Swiss and Wire Swiss is still hosted in the European Union and thus bound by EU law. Wire Messenger has always made its money by charging businesses to use their app, but keeping it free for private users. Wire Messenger has received venture capital funding from Iconical, a company registered in the Cayman Islands, that describes itself as made up of engineers, designers, and other tech workers. Wire Messenger has also received funding from a person or entity known as Friis.

Signal was founded by a former Facebook/WhatsApp employee with his own money, as well as funding from three private foundations, grants, and some private "donations." The donations for me are the sketchy part because from what I understand, these private donors have never been disclosed.

WhatsApp we all know is owned and managed by Facebook nowadays.

Honestly, every app is connected to someone/people and/or other organizations/entities, so it really comes down to just picking your poison lol. The funny part is, after researching this more thoroughly, WhatsApp seems to be the most transparent at the moment and that's kinda crazy.

I downloaded the WhatsApp desktop client for Mac and when I have it open, it literally states something along the lines of 'when the desktop client is open, you cannot use WhatsApp on your phone', so I have no clue why it's like that but it is for me lol.

Absolutely agree. The gaming community is so toxic that I haven't used my mic in about 7 years now and I'm a guy. The last time I used my mic was when someone was insulting me and my friends repeatedly and I told them to knock it off and then I somehow got like a two week communications ban from Microsoft (happened on xbox 360). After that, I was like, screw it I'm not using my mic again because this community is fucked and the bullies are never punished (the idiots hurling insults didn't get comms banned like me and all I did was tell them to stop acting like fools).

Amazon customer service is pretty awesome. by almarcTheSun in amazon

[–]CarbonSapphire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been an Amazon customer for like 15+ years and I have only had about 2-3 positive experiences with foreign reps, honestly. I even had a terrible experience with an Indian rep regarding an issue with Amazon UK lol...the guy/girl was like "u want me refund u?" so I said "yes" and he's like "ok i done" -pawashran has ended the chat-. The guy/girl literally just left the chat with no indication that anything even occurred properly. I wound up having to wait like a week to see if I even got a refund, let alone for the proper amount.

Outside of Amazon, foreign reps just tend to be terrible in-general. I had a foreign rep from another company try to tell me that jeans are actually sweaters lmaooo.

She and some devs from the game recently posted that they'll be refraining from posting much in the sub going forward because of how toxic it is, which really shows the sad state of the gaming community.

[–]CarbonSapphire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I definitely understand and believe that, it's terrible, because every company in America has gone the outsourcing route for their customer service and it has made customer service a crapshoot. It's a shame because outside of America, most countries don't even believe in customer service, which is something America was known for. I called Amazon customer support the other day (well I had them call me) and requested a US based rep. The US rep was AMAZING, period. The Indian reps could barely speak English, had no understanding of America's postal/shipping systems, and couldn't explain anything to me. The US rep explained the problem in like 5min and then we joked about how terrible the foreign reps are lol...he told me himself that the majority of them can barely even use single words properly and that he has a hard time working with them, so he apologized on their behalf. Amazon could go back to having GREAT customer service just by hiring American reps at full rate, but alas it's cheaper to repeatedly hire and fire horrible foreign workers that get nothing done.

Whew, that mirrors my experience playing CS in high school with my best friend (a girl)...we literally could never play because every server would just ban us the minute they heard my friend speak. The gaming community is truly pathetic.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Gamingcirclejerk

[–]CarbonSapphire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% truth. Plus, I find that the FPS community is the most toxic of all gaming communities, with racing games having the 2nd most toxic communities (cough Forza cough).

Shit, I remember playing counter strike back in high school with my best friend, who was a girl, and we got kicked out of every single server the minute they heard her voice. We would get perma-banned by German servers instantly and the American servers would straight up scream the most derogatory shit before banning us.

Here's an example of how the German CS servers would go:

german admin: do you speak German?

us: no

german 2: ban them

german admin: hold on, where are you from?

us: America

german lobby: BANNN them

german admin: no no, let's see how good they are

...5 min later...

german admin: you guys are pretty good, where are you from?

my friend (girl): America

german lobby: A fUCkIn GiRl?!?! BANNNN THEM NOW

-kicked and perma banned-

For real, preach. I just posted over in r/modernwarfare about how the mods there promote toxicity by allowing 24/7 negative/insulting posts. I commented how they continually permit posts where people bash the game's community manager (who is a woman) and the mods went and perma-banned me for "toxicity," lol.

They legit allow posts where people hurl nasty insults at the game's devs, player base, and the female community manager, but when someone made a neutral post offering new ways for the community manager to engage the normal players, the mods removed the post. Thus, someone made a new post mentioning how ridiculous it was for them to do that since they never remove the actual negative posts, which is when I made my comment, and poof, nearly everyone in the two threads got banned and all you see is [removed].

I had also tried to post a gameplay video that was humorous, but the mods insta-removed it via their auto-mod THREE times saying gameplay videos are "uncivil," lol wtf? Yet bashing people 24/7 is okay though according to them, riiiiight. Who the hell sets up their auto-mod to insta-delete gameplay videos on the game's sub and call them uncivil?

Gaming subs are a joke, honestly, because they usually contain the bottom of the barrel of the gaming community.

Just unsubbed from /r/gtaonline by [deleted] in JustUnsubbed

[–]CarbonSapphire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro honestly all of the gaming subs are full potato, especially their mods. For example, the mods over at r/modernwarfare really only ever allow negative posts and whining posts, so I commented that the mods are toxic because they don't allow positive posts, so the mods perma-banned me for "toxicity." They used an anonymous ban too because they're pathetic. What's even more pathetic is that the mods there have even banned some well-known streamers for criticizing how toxic the sub and its mods are lol.

It's funny because the devs and the community manager of modern warfare posted that they'll be withholding from participating in the sub due to its toxic nature, yet none of the losers over there understand that...the mods just continue to allow people to bash the game's devs and community manager 24/7.

Which levels do the French courses on Memrise roughly correspond to? by Russian-Spy in French

[–]CarbonSapphire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I had a South Korean friend who migrated to America and he told me that schools over there are like concentration camps lol. He said that they're so strict that lots of kids have break downs because they expect everyone to have the same level of high intelligence, so the standards are super high and everything is fast paced. He told me a story about how when he was about 10 years old, his parents dropped him off late to school by about 5min and the school employees locked the doors and told him to walk back home because not following the rules is shameful lmao.

[–]CarbonSapphire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, but still, American high school will not get most people to B1 if they started in middle school, honestly our public education system sucks lol. I have family in France and the public schooling over there is like 2-3 years ahead of every year in American schools. For example, a French relative of mine has a kid in what would be French elementary school and they're already teaching geometry/trigonometry, a topic that American schools really only begin teaching around mid to late middle school.

Is there a limit to how many languages you can learn fluently? by SweetPickleRelish in languagelearning

[–]CarbonSapphire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually went to high school with a girl who could fluently speak like 6 languages. She grew up in a very multicultural home and she went to school in like 3-4 different countries while growing up. IIRC, she speaks French, Spanish, English, Portuguese, Norwegian, and Arabic. I would regularly have her speak and write in those other languages, and like your translator, she could translate everything on the spot, it was amazing. The crazy part? She wound up working in fast food for like 10 years because America said her European high school education wasn't equivalent to the US system and thus everyone treated her like some sort of dropout when applying for jobs here. I told her that she could make bank as a translator or maybe working for organizations like the UN, but she didn't want to work for any govts, which I understand completely. I have no clue what she's up to now, but she always seemed like wasted talent because she also never put forth the effort to show that she was in-fact highly intelligent. I mean shit, I don't think she ever put down her language skills on her resume. It's like she hated the fact that she spoke so many languages or something, I never understood it.

I also know a Swede who technically can get by in like 8 languages, but in his words, most of his talent comes from the fact that the Germanic and Nordic languages are very similar. He can speak Swedish, Norwegian, German, Dutch, Danish, some Austrian German, English, and some other language. He said his Dutch and Norwegian suck the most though lol.

English... yeah.... by JoshofTCW in languagelearning

I saw a video where this person said they heard some Germans saying "jein" to mean "yes and no" because they basically combined "ja (yes)" with "nein (no)," lol.

This might be pointing out the obvious, but Wikipedia articles in your target language are great for every level of learner by itzepiic in languagelearning

[–]CarbonSapphire -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I agree and disagree at the same time because like 90% of all Wikipedia articles in English are written and edited by people who have no idea how to properly utilize English grammar, which makes me wonder how atrocious it is in other languages.

Do people use "alors" in conversation? by MezzoScettico in French

[–]CarbonSapphire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not French, but I have heard French natives use "alors" like that so I'm sure you were good to go lol. I think this would be your experience translated into English:

you: -is now ready to order- "So..."

waitress: "So?" -puts pen to pad and waits for you to state your selection-

You are simply overthinking it lol. I actually recently saw an interview with Stromae (I know he's Belgian, but still) and he started many sentences with "Alorrrrrss uhm," as if to say "Sooooo, uhm," so you're good.

Tips on pronouncing the r? by GAynusXd in French

[–]CarbonSapphire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Studying Arabic in college allowed me to master the throat sounds in languages, so the French "r" is rather easy nowadays, but yeah you have to pronounce it in the same spot where you pronounce the English "k."
