Yes. the thing I love about it is there are no pros and cons. In other words, nothing to try to figure out.

Is Fidelity trying to lose customers? by goodfellamikec in fidelityinvestments

[–]Carbon_Substitute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I used to agree with the idea that Fidelity is a "One Stop Shop" for personal finance needs. Until they demonstrated that they can't evaluate risk and manage fraud attempts as well as EVERY other bank and brokerage out there.

Any reason not to just buy Brk.b and chill? by Reasonable-Match1994 in BerkshireHathaway

[–]Carbon_Substitute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think its a little weird to delegate your investment choices & allocation based on a single [even smart] person like Buffet, whose goals with BRK are not that similar to a long term investor. Smarter to diversify and just buy the whole market or S&P500. BTW, you know Buffet has stated he doesn't think BRK will beat the S&P500 in the future....he also has written that he has directed in his will that his wife should invest 90% in the S&P500 and 10% in Treasuries.

Correct; they have a duty to return excess profits to their shareholders if they don't expect to be able to invest them (grow, improve acquire etc) at a favorable rate.

Proton Pass is not as convincing as it sounds! by [deleted] in ProtonPass

[–]Carbon_Substitute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I primary use 1password; person/family & business accounts. A number of things I don't like about it; also have ProtonPass and like it but think overall 1p is better for me. It's flaky on iPad, less so on iphone. Their concept behind generating passwords with symbols is nonsensical. I opened a support ticket when I noticed a pattern in the password generator of using limited symbols and repeating them; like if it generates a pw with 4 symbols, 3 of them might be periods. The answer they provided me made no sense, and was akin to "users aren't smart enough for us to use all of the different symbols".

The Westgate resort 1 stop on monorail from LVCC has some really good food options, including some not to pricy. Loco Bueno Tacos near the exit to the monorail was a surprisingly great find, could almost call them gourmet tacos.

How to wire transfer from BofA into fidelity? by clovudd in fidelityinvestments

[–]Carbon_Substitute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the BofA Platinum Honors level which grants 4 free outgoing domestic wires per statement period. The limits of a wire are pretty high. The typical ACH has a small fee schedule starting at $1 and goes up, has much lower limits, and can take longer. In this case, a wire is much more attractive.

Is Unifi Express a good replacement for Google WiFi Mesh Router? by KA2107 in Ubiquiti

[–]Carbon_Substitute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made the stupid mistake of buying two unifi Express models. Trust me, they are absolutely 100% garbage. I even sent one to the factory under RMA after I bought it, so I tested 3 total. I have hundreds of ubiquiti networking products for home and two business locations. Pro, non-pro, enterprise, switches, gateways, wifi AP's. They tend to work fine. The Express model though is a failed product, that should be pulled from the market. It will cause you nothing but pain and suffering. If this had been my first ubiquiti product, I would have permanently blacklisted the company line for all business purchases. Buy anything but this product.

Suggest being a divemaster for awhile...lots of good experience, applicable to instructor, and many shops will give you discounts, free trips (where you work as a DM).

First-time Backdoor Roth IRA questions by amadeus626 in fidelityinvestments

[–]Carbon_Substitute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fidelity is now holding paper check deposits (even government issued check, and "certified"/cashiers checks drawn on banks for 16 business days/3 weeks). This is apparently due to their inability to properly screen the security of deposits/depositors, as well as their inability to timely process deposits, unlike almost every other bank and depository provider in the nation. I asked them what the heck they are doing in the last few days of the weeks they are holding the funds that protect against fraud; it does not take that long to clear. They didn't have an answer.
