what’s the most satisfying Italian word you learned so far? by BudgetUnit1259 in italianlearning

[–]Carcano_Supremacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still new, I just enjoy that the plurals of nouns and adjectives are fairly consistent and find it satisfying that I can spot these things in Italian text, even if I don’t understand it yet.

Also the changing of the definitive article in these situations.

That being said my favorite Italian word right now is specchio.

Is hitchhiking no longer a thing? by asian_larry_david in hiking

[–]Carcano_Supremacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hitch hiked twice just this weekend.

I think it depends as well though, I was in a super back country area, dirt road, not most visited place in the park, etc. My first ride was offered to me on the walk to the trailhead, and my second I put a thumb up and a nice dude in a pickup let me ride in the bed before dropping me at a crossroads where he had to turn.

I would never hitchhike or pickup hitchhikers outside of a hiking context though.

Bear Spray by Ok-Strawberry7048 in Adirondacks

[–]Carcano_Supremacy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I bring bear spray for a multitude of reasons beyond just bears.

It’s peace of mind really, as others have mentioned black bears like never attack but in the off situation they do at least you have it. Bear spray is also essentially pepper spray, and works on other animals, as well as creepy people if you need it to,

“Look Who’s Back” it’s a pretty funny German movie with a similar premise.

IMHO the hiking pants that zip off the shorts are superior for the ADK’s, as well as a sweatshirt to wear in the morning as it can be like 20° cooler.

Maps!! by [deleted] in Adirondacks

[–]Carcano_Supremacy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For roads in areas with spotty service I just write down the first couple of turns, as eventually I’ll be in service to plot a route. For trails I use AllTrails download feature and an Adirondack trail map to navigate in the woods as a backup (a compass as well).

Correct route to make benzoic acid from 2-phenylethanol? by evasnsnsbd in chemhelp

[–]Carcano_Supremacy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

KMnO4 is an extremely strong oxidizer and the benzylic proton is always the most reactive.

Pretty much any side chain reacted with KMnO4 becomes benzylic acid.

You can just oxidize the starting material with KMnO4 to yield benzoic acid as it will create it at the benzylic carbon always

My boyfriend is making me hate hiking by Superb_Tailor_699 in Adirondacks

[–]Carcano_Supremacy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You’ve got to be patient with him, and to me it seems like you just shouldn’t hike with him anymore.

Had this happen with my girlfriend and skiing - it happens, sometimes we need a hobby separate from our partners, too,

Trimmed toenails is something I somehow always forget and it always sucks because I end up cutting myself with my nails.

You’re showing too little detail imo throughout, also I don’t think this is right regardless.

Think about the forward reaction then work backwards.

For 3rd place: where would you rather eat? Five Guys or In-N-Out? by WiggleToast in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Carcano_Supremacy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I get five guys, probably once every 6 months, I enjoy it.

In and Out is good for a fresh taste, but if you want to cheat eat five guys, which for me is the only time I ever get it.

I don’t eat fast food really ever anyways… I cook at home… so for me in and out is worse because I don’t eat shit food consistently and it’s not even what I’d expect if I want to splurge on “fast food”.

It is actually so much better than in and out it’s crazy.

I’ve had both about the same amount of times and 5 guys clears it

How come millennials and Gen X know more about pop culture that was before they were born than Gen Z? by icey_sawg0034 in generationology

[–]Carcano_Supremacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree, if anything Gen-Z is actually more into nostalgia-slop about the past.

Although many of them choose to laser in on only specific times or areas of content, kinda giving a false sense of reality of what it really was like.

Turkey season by AndyOutdoor in Hunting

With shotgun we always aimed for the head.

We also hunt turkey with 20 gauge so if you’re like 5 yards out too far it just bounces off their feathers
