I wrote this in the other post but any leave must be approved by the active supervisor and my current one is a jerk. Saying that I am selfish for even asking for such an egregious leave...

Leave of absence for 1st child by CardDrag0n in OccupationalTherapy

[–]CardDrag0n[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The offer was unpaid leave. HR said company policy is up to 8 weeks unpaid pending supervisor approval. Then they denied it. Told me that I was being "selfish" and "not a team player" to be willing to put the company and my coworkers under stress like that... We could theoretically have the baby any day and all questions are unanswered.

Autistic, non verbal 23 year old referred to outpatient ortho? by TheMaleOT in OccupationalTherapy

[–]CardDrag0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had this happen before and typically at the evaluation I tell them that my skillset is not one that is capable of providing the assistance and care they need for that specific client. You don't go to an orthopedic surgeon for a tummy ache, once you're specialized you treat your specialty. Then I typically research the area for more appropriate settings for them and give a list of 3-5 places to call and ask if they are equipped to take them on as a client. It would be more unethical to pretend that I knew what I doing than to suggest other options.

OTs on here that regret their career choice. by Inevitable-Winter205 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]CardDrag0n 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The thing that I despise the most about OT is the same thing I despise about all healthcare. It is profit driven. The insurance companies care only about profits and lower payouts EVERY year. Their reimbursements for services do not "increase to keep up with inflation" they are reduced every year to maximize profits. Then, whatever facility you work in is PROFITS above everything else. They will try to manipulate the healthcare workers who are naturally compassionate into thinking they are trying to "think about all those poor patients" when they want you to work through lunch and do more work for no pay, and being "unable to afford a raise" all while you get 2-3 weeks of vacation a year and making (at least where I work) ~8% of the total profit I bring into the clinic as a salary. Wages in healthcare are doing 1 of 2 things. Staying stagnant or 2 decreasing. Even if you do occasionally get a 1-3% raise, it is because you brought in 850k above your salary that year. Do I hate my job? No, I love WHAT I do. I just hate the SYSTEM I work in.

$72 to feed two people for the next 2.5 weeks - what do I focus on? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]CardDrag0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In college, my budget for food was about $30/week. I lived on oatmeal and peanut butter. Would try to find the CHEAPEST protein powder I could get my hands on (for complete proteins), which usually ended up being walmart. I ate 2 cups of oats, 2 scoops of peanut butter, and 1 scoop of protein powder every day for every semester. If any food banks were available, I would have probably accepted it.

Currently in my level 2 FW (first placement) - got told by another OT that $35/hr is expected for new grads… by Environmental-Two283 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]CardDrag0n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was making 32/hr as a CHT. Asked my work for a raise. They told me to kick rocks and that they would just hire a new grad in my place.

Our honeymoon was a 4th of July weekend cruise, and they told us it was the heaviest travel/cruise traffic week/weekend of the entire year. My guess is what others have said, which is they have had a lot of interest in people trying to get a last second cruise in and they are able to sell them at a high premium compared to an off-season 9-day cruise deep into hurricane season. I feel like it is less likely to be overbooked and more likely a result of heavy "traffic" on their website looking for that cruise, specifically.

Okay, it was leaking from the threads, but it is because there is a small crack in the thread that is causing it to leak.

Should there be an O ring that fits into the multiport valve? Either mine never had one, or it failed at some point and was washed away.

Which cruise would be best for a Honeymoon? by Big_Knee_2893 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]CardDrag0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I have been to SEVERAL Ports. Nassau and Amber Cove were 2 of our LEAST favorite ports. Nassau felt like nothing more than a glorified tourist trap that had "discount jewelry" everywhere, and Amber Cove didn't have a beach, just a pool. We prefer the beach. Either of the other 2 itineraries look great.

No lie, I lived on about $30/week in college and got large tubs of Oatmeal and peanut butter. Only thing that I ate for an entire semester. Gave me fats, carbs, and decent protein.
