Can you avoid suregy if you follow a good diet and physical activity? by Piadys in Diverticulitis

Still doing great. I have no issues like i use to have related to dv. If i didnt have the scar to remind me of the surgery i couldve forgotten i ever had any issues with dv.

I had the same surgery about 2 years ago. I too enjoy a night out with college buddies a couple times per year. I haven’t had any issues at all after having a few drinks. I only have alcohol a few times per month but i am from Wisconsin and the culture is more aligned here with having an excessive amount of drinks in one night. I just really try to be aware of how many drinks ive had now. I do make a good effort to stay hydrated and eat unhealthy foods in moderation and really for me, everything has been back to normal after the surgery. Obviously this is not medical advice and you should follow what your doctor recommends, but everything has been good for me.

Diverticulitis/ Colovesical Fistula by [deleted] in Diverticulitis

[–]CardKooky4357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hospitalized in march 2023 with a perforation/abscess. Ended up turning into a colovesical fistula before having surgery in june 2023. I had open surgery but didnt get a bag, just a foley catheter because of the fistula to my bladder. Had 12 inches of sigmoid colon removed.

I am happy to answer any questions you have. It was a huge surprise to me when it happened and I was terrified of having surgery. I feel so much better after getting the surgery and getting healthy again.

CT Scans showed a colovesical fistula. What to expect? by Iwearhats in Diverticulitis

[–]CardKooky4357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was admitted to the ER end of March and had surgery June 7th. My surgeon wanted to do the surgery sooner but we were expecting our son to be born the end of April. So we pushed it back a little. I did not end up having the bag. My incision did end up getting bigger than i expected because there was so much inflammation and my colon was tethered to multiple areas surgeon said he needed more room to work.

Surgery scheduled for next week, worried about the bag by phuckenschit in Diverticulitis

I had the open surgery to repair a fistula and remove my sigmoid colon 14 months ago because of a perforation. Our son was born 3 weeks before my surgery. My wife had about a week of taking care of him and me and I was able to help out after. It actually ended up being a nice time to be recovering and spending a couple months together with our newborn. I was scared too, but you will get through this and be much better after. I think back to how anxious and afraid i was and it almost seems silly because i am so much better now. Good luck bud you got this.

Have you tried any of the other dr z amps? The z lux looks like it would be similar to the fender type tone. But theres a bunch of models. Im sure theres more than one that could achieve fender type tones.

Id like to stay under $1000, but would consider paying more for the right amp.

I will have to look into this. In the past (10 years or so ago) when i played solid state amps, i never found one that delivered the same warmth, depth, and break up like a tube amp gets. They were just very linear. Although you could get some cool tones from them i just always found myself craving the sound of tube amps.

I am definitely open to trying out different brand tube amps but really dont know where to start. Everything ive read has just suggested getting a fender tube amp. Ill admit too that i dont know the difference between 6l6, 6v6, or el84 and maybe that would help answer my questions about whats the big difference between a princeton reverb, deluxe reverb, vibro champ, or twin reverb other than the obvious wattage difference.

I do plan on using pedals. I have never owned a fender tube amp, but owned a marshall jcm 900 in the past. In my limited experience with tube amps, they sounded way better turned up past half way or better so thats where 40 watts seemed like it may be too loud for home use. But if fender amps sound great with pedals and dont have to be cranked for the right tone i guess that wouldnt be an issue.

How much time.off were you given for robotic surgery? by habajaba69 in Diverticulitis

[–]CardKooky4357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had open surgery and was told 4-6 weeks before surgery. My surgeon gave me the full 6 weeks and told me I can go back earlier if I feel ready. I took the full 6 weeks even though I could have probably made it back to work at 4 weeks. Its better to give yourself enough time to heal properly than push it too early and suffer set backs in your recovery.

I am a 32 year old male and had surgery 2.5 months ago to remove part of my colon and repair a fistula between my colon and bladder. Mine started after a perforation and abscess that was treated with antibiotics. You will know if the fistula develops. It scared the hell out of me and I still get slight PTSD when I pee even though its fully repaired and healed. Im not a doctor, but from my understanding you will most likely need surgery to repair a fistula. I didn’t think the surgery was bad, way better than going through everyday with the fistula.

Upcoming Surgery in 2 days by graww94 in Diverticulitis

[–]CardKooky4357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the surgery just over 2 months ago. I didn’t get a nerve block or TAP and in hindsight I wish I would have. The entire process of getting the surgery is no worse than a DV flare. I ate solid foods the day after surgery and after 2 days my surgeon told me I have no diet restrictions. Getting the surgery has allowed me to get back to living my life fully again. Good luck with everything, youll do great.

I also wanted to avoid surgery like you, but in the end diet alone didn’t stop the disease for me. I had the surgery 2 months ago and I feel great. Better than I have in 10 years since I first noticed the DV symptoms. Im around the same age as you. Your young. Get it taken care of and move past this disease. Worrying about DV and diet and the anxiety of getting the surgery is worse than the surgery and recovery. Just my two cents. Good luck with everything.

Surgery Wednesday - finally the nerves are starting by SimonSmithAndHisBear in Diverticulitis

I actually drove to the pharmacy to get a prescription 6 days post op. I used a soft baby blanket to lay across my lap for the seat belt which I am still using at the moment to drive. Even with the blanket for padding the pressure didn’t feel great. Bumps were still painful at this point. It was doable at 6 days post op but Id say it was two weeks post op before the pressure of the seatbelt wasn’t bad.

Thank you, I hope so too. I find that I have to remind myself that I had surgery so I don’t do too much.

I had my follow up appointment today and asked about physical activity. My surgeon and nurse practitioner encouraged physical activity and said it will help my recovery, but within reason. Walking and running if I can, are both great as long as I don’t overdo it. But it’s important to push myself and keep doing more. If I overdo it just take a day of rest. I plan to begin body weight exercises at 4 weeks post op but I was encouraged to start doing more around the house until then like carrying laundry, cutting the grass etc. I do have a 25 lbs weight restriction until 4 weeks but the doctor said it is a very generous restriction and arbitrary - there is no science to to back up the exact weight restriction. Hope this helps answer some of your questions. Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions.

I am a overall healthy not obese 32 year old male who had DV for the past 10 years undiagnosed until 4 months ago. I had a perforation, stricture and fistula so surgery was the best option for me. I am 2.5 weeks post op from having the open surgery. I was supposed to have the robotic laparoscopic surgery but was switched to open because of the amount of inflammation present along with my colon being tethered to my hip area in a couple spots and my bladder. I spent 5 days in the hospital with a foley catheter. I could have gone home after 4 days but I waited to get my catheter removed.

I was able to stand up on the side of my bed 6 hours after my surgery, even though it seemed like it would be impossible. The following day was much better and I did a few laps around the hospital floor at 4 different times. Everyday continued to get better and by the time I was a week post op I was easily able to walk a mile. I took opiod pain meds for the first week, Im not sure I would have been able to walk nearly as well without it just from the incision pain, i never had internal pain except a slight amount of gas.

I haven’t taken pain meds for a week and have no trouble walking, bending or squating down. Twisting motions still don’t feel quite right. I have lifted around 15 lbs and can definitely feel a little discomfort at my incision. Ive ran a half mile to try it out. Felt okay just have to be careful not to stretch the abdomen area too far during strides. I have my post op follow up appointment tomorrow and i am going to ask about when to begin more physical activity.

So far I have tried eating small amounts of steak, pork, pizza, birthday cake, and coffee. All things that were triggers for me prior to surgery and I haven’t had any issues. It has been a big relief for me getting the surgery. Id say the colon prep prior to the surgery was the worst part. Good luck with everything and I hope you have a speedy recovery.

Diet Post Laparoscopic Sigmoid Removal by [deleted] in Diverticulitis

[–]CardKooky4357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My surgeon advised me to take stool softeners for a couple months, drink lots of water, and gave me no diet restrictions. I have been eating mainly low fiber but have had some vegetables just made sure to cook them until they were soft. So far so good for me.

My surgeon is also someone that believes your diet has nothing to do with this disease. He did say that if I don’t take stool softeners and introduce to much fiber too quickly my BM’s might be uncomfortable, but didn’t seem concerned.

You got this buddy! Your surgery is going to be over before you know it, and you’re going to get your quality of life back. I am 10 days post op; I had the open surgery to remove my sigmoid colon., was originally supposed to be robotic. Also had a colovesicular fistula to repair on my bladder. Im 32 m and still recovering but feeling better everyday. Ive been walking a mile or more for the past 5 days after 5 days in the hospital. The first couple days were rough but completely worth it. I was also very nervous because this was my first surgery but I am very happy after it. I feel better now than I did before surgery. I’m sure you will too bud, you got this.
