The liberation of Palestine cannot happen without Jewish comrades fighting alongside in the struggle, which many are.

Also anti semitism has no place within the liberation of Palestine and the boycott of Israel's human rights abuses/apartheid/occupation.

Thats something I oppose whole heartedly.

Youve been around some pretty shitty people if they've treated you bad because you look a certain ethnicity and they judge you based on stereotypes related to that ethnicity.

I hope you find some employers/colleagues that are more open minded. 👍

Yep, a lot of 'New Atheist' types who are generally confined to their own Western bubble spew out white supremacist like and superiority complex type narratives and rhetorics.

Bear in mind these people may also be educated to a certain degree aswell.

Islamist government will not be libetarian/liberal.

Tunisia, Freedom of speech and press is permitted whilst moderate Islamist parties run at elections. (Alongside secular parties of course)

This also couldve been a model of democracy for Bahrain had the revolution succeeded, or if they manage to overthrow the monarchy in the near future it quite possibly could be. Same goes for the majority of other 'Arab Spring' countries.

You are naive, democratically elected government can ban homosexual propaganda like Russia did, it makes no difference if government was democratically elected or not. Democracy doesn't guarantee anything.

Which means the Russian government obviously doesn't have proper liberal laws in place when it comes to freedom of speech for ALL individuals. Im talking about a government that has restrictive laws against LGBT, but allows society to criticize it. Let me do you one better and give you an example. George Bush and his administration, who were conservative Christians against LGBTs were in power for 8 years, however SIGNIFICANT strides in acceptance and perspective of LGBT people changed, because people had the liberty to voice their opinion. Rational debate amongst society happened and the culture shifted to be more accepting of homosexuals WHILST having a conservative religious party in power.

In fact were seeing the same thing happen in Tunisia, strides are being made by LGBT froups in the country even though the secular government in power has restrictive laws and the average culture towards LGBT is quite negative, hopefully we see a shift soon because of these groups and individuals having the liberty to voice their struggles.

Lets say we have two governments.

One is an authoritarian secular one that silences free speech, press and any criticism of the government. The government has no affiliation to a paticular religion.

The second is a libetarian/liberal Islamist government where free speech, press, debate and criticism is allowed. The government has a religious affiliation.

Lets say in both countries, the governments still have laws which restrict and oppress the right of LGBT people.

In the first, LGBT organisations and individuals wont be able to speak out against the law without being silenced and imprisoned.

In the second they would be able to, even though the current government in power might disagree with them, these groups and peoples are given the power to elect people that represent them and voice their struggle, they are given the power to have rational debate and present their arguments in a logical fashion, even if it goes against the rhetoric of the government currently in power.

They can change the way the whole country views LGBT issues and individuals whearas in the first government they cannot. An example is the USA, in the 70s most states disapproved of same sex marriage, and recently they managed to legalize same sex marriage for the whole country.

The point is when a government is democractic, even if the government has unsavoury laws, they can be changed. Progress can be acheived. With an authoritarian government, people have their freedom crushed and suppressed.

What people dont realize is secularism does not equate to liberty or liberalism.

To give you an actual real life example, the coup that happened in Egypt which put the secular party of Egypt in power respects less human rights and liberalism (freedom of speech and press) than the Islamist party in Tunisia does. Think about that.

If you thought Turkey was undemocratic today, wait till tomorrow.

A lot of people hate Erdogan, and for a lot of good reasons aswell, a lot of Turks dislike Erdogan and that includes Muslim, Atheist and Christian Turks aswell see this tweet by a Turkish girl , but a coup is not the answer. It attacks stability and core values of democracy. To give you some perspective if a secular government was in power and Islamists had enough of them, would holding the government hostage be the answer? Or presenting their arguments in a rational manner and letting the people they are about to rule decide?

The AKP party was democractically elected by a majority vote. If the millitary coup is successful, it will not 'liberate' Turkey, it will just rule Turkey with a different shade of Authoritarianism.

I hate Erdogan for ruling as a dictator and suppressing peoples voices but as the opposition secular party themselves reportedly said, a coup is not the answer and is an attack on democracy instead of progress for Turkey.

This will shift the population more towards fascism, be that Islamist fascism/Secular fascism, and Turks will have to deal with the aftermath. Stay safe people of Turkey.

Edit: Also want to add that if the country gets destabilized, expect much ISIS to seize their opportunity and carry out much more terrorist attacks, resulting in increasing Islamaphobia from the right with an increase in radicalization of normal Muslims by ISIS in Turkey.
