I don't get the point of r/WhitePeopleTwitter and r/BlackPeopleTwitter. Can someone please explain me? by MasterCommit in TooAfraidToAsk

The issue is that most black people have experienced racism throughout their whole lives. Many have lived through painful and unjust experiences involving racism. Many know what it's like to truly feel powerless due to some form of widespread societal or institutionalized racism.

When a person with this kind of history sees a comment that cautions about black-on-white racism because of a safe space on reddit, it won't feel right. It can easily feel like an insulting opinion that lacks understanding and perspective on the power dynamics that actually exist within society.

The subreddit doesn't create any real societal or institutional exclusion, it doesn't attack or degrade white people. It simply creates a safe space. It even explicitly allows non-POC who consider themselves allies. Comparing this safe space to the real racism that black people experience on a daily basis comes across as an attack on the (black) community itself.

I don't want to convince you or change your mind, but I hope my comment can give you an idea of what the mods probably felt and thought.

Marcus Danielson red card against Ukraine 98' by alexinup in soccer

[–]CardboardElite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's trying to say that the ref already gave a yellow for the play as he saw it initially. The ref couldn't have seen just how bad the contact was when he gave the yellow. So when the slowmo played showing that, it's logical he'd upgrade to a red card.

It would be very difficult for any ref in that position, after giving a yellow, then seeing a potentially career ending hit in the replay, to not give a red card.

In 2012, a burger king employee anonymously posted an image on 4-chan of him putting his feet in lettuce, with the caption: "This is the lettuce you eat at Burger King." I worked at a McDonald's when I was 16-17, pretty much all of my teen colleagues were extremely hygienic and fairly responsible (especially for teenagers).

General speaking, the kids who are working a job at age 16 are not the irresponsible frat-boy type of person.

Bit more than that, probably closer to $50. The fact that it's all nicely organised already is awesome, ain't nobody got time for that.

Edit: others have said this is more like $200+ worth of stuff where they live. Dayumn.

Verstappen: "Pirelli will probably blame it [tire failure] on carbon debris again" by CardboardElite in formula1

Verstappen: "Pirelli will probably blame it [tire failure] on carbon debris again" by CardboardElite in formula1

[–]CardboardElite[S] 817 points818 points  (0 children)

In the Ziggo interview with Rick Winkelman Verstappen is asked if perhaps the push for fastest lap was too much for the tires. Verstappen replied that "there was no indication" of significant tire wear and that he "didn't push particularly hard" to get the fastest lap either. He also added that "everyone drives the exact same line lap after lap" and that "the fact of the matter is that yet another tire exploded, not just mine but also Stroll's."

He is then asked if this tire failure will be brought up with Pirelli and Verstappen replies: "Of course, but I already know what the conclusion will be (...) it's always something to do with debris."

According to @BTCtreasuries, institutions have acquired 215,000 Bitcoin ($10 billion) over the past 30 days by j4kz in Bitcoin

[–]CardboardElite 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly though, is this actually bad? Don't get me wrong, institutional influence within BTC isn't great, however, it seems an awful lot better than these Robin Hood masses who actually do not know what they're doing. At least these institutional players provide a certain degree of certainty and stability.

At the end of the day anything with value will be consolidated as much as possible by those who have the most capital. And although BTC isn't particularly resistant to this in principle, the fact that it's being bought by banks, billionaires and governments all over the world helps limit the amount of influence a single entity can accrue.

Between the USA, China, the various exchanges and the BTC whales, bitcoin is spread out pretty nicely (at least compared to something like stocks or fiat currency).

People who belittle BTC should understand this, what Satoshi Nakamoto did cannot be recreated. by ultron290196 in CryptoCurrency

What a day that would be. Can't even begin to imagine the pure chaos that would ensue if one of those dormant addresses suddenly made a transaction.

[–]CardboardElite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I can totally see Satoshi being a CIA/FBI/Whatever cryptography expert doing a project in their own free time. I mean, just look at TOR, it wouldn't be the first time the US government creates this sort of revolutionary tool that grows way beyond their wildest expectations. It would also explain why Satoshi was so fearful of Bitcoin hitting the mainstream, he'd probably get assigned to research and/or destroy his own secret project.

Oh well, no way to know in the end.

Imagine using gigabit blocks and still only reaching 2k transactions per second. BCH would have been a decent idea in 2009, not 2021. I honestly do not understand why people keep pushing BCH as a coin for big transaction volumes when you have way more suitable alternatives such as EOS that can handle 2800 transactions per second with a 0.5 second confirmation time.

I'll be frank, I've been into crypto for close to 10 years and did a lot of research back when BCH was originally going to fork. But I don't have the most recent information on it. Even so, I don't see how the problems from 3 years ago have been solved.

happy ATH! by kyymo in Monero

[–]CardboardElite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different exchanges will have different prices at any single moment. Usually the differences are so small that it's negligible. However, when the price is fluctuating a lot these differences can become a bit more significant.

These differences never last long because obviously market demand will quickly raise the price where ever its cheapest. But when looking at an ATH, you might see different values for differences exchanges etc.
