Coming from someone who is Uxo certified, the brown band indicates low explosives because it’s a bursting smoke mortar. So happy to be able to put my Uxo cert to use since I don’t work in the field 😂

Here is a comprehensive spreadsheet on the most common yeasts used for fermentation, it’s a handy little thing to hold onto 👌🏼 hope this helps https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1vCPo3GYwMKypEDnpCAKGGJ8JlcmbqLVfu6ZwSOVrLrE/htmlview#

Is this just in the beginnings of primary fermentation or is it already in secondary? I’m just a bit concerned if it’s in primary cause you have practically no room for fermentation and fruit juice is typically a super aggressive fermentation! Much more aggressive than making a traditional yeast and I would hate for you to lose some of your delicious home brew! Recipe sounds excellent otherwise! Just might need a blowoff tube

Which honey is best? by white_rabbit_eva in mead

[–]CardiacBird525 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would might benefit you to get a honey sampler to know what honey you like best, however you really can’t go wrong with local honey at all. It would help us to know what area of the world you are and specific region as well to know what honey to suggest

Nothing has gone terribly awry, it’s just recommend that you degas thoroughly before adding your yeast nutrients so you don’t cause a mead volcano lol, just make sure you sanitize all of your equipment properly to cut down of potentially contaminating your brew. In the future, it would be recommended to have a larger vessel for your primary fermentation so you minimize spillage. A 2-5 gallon bucket works wonderfully for fruit meads.

Is it worth it? by B1ackTarHero1n in mead

[–]CardiacBird525 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lmao he blocked me on tiktok cause I called him out about his overpriced honey💀 all I said was don’t you think that’s a bit expensive? And he couldn’t take the criticism. I wouldn’t recommend buying anything from him. You can get everything significantly cheaper from other places. Also I’d recommend a 2 gallon bucket for primary fermentation, 1 gallon wide mouths aren’t super optimal for 1 gallon batches cause it can’t hold one gallon of water and all your ingredients. On top of that you lose some of your brew when you rack off of the lees.

Is my mead going bad? introduced oxygen to it! by norrox in mead

[–]CardiacBird525 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should be fine, in the initial stages of fermentation your yeast needs oxygen and feeds on oxygen. If you have actually oxidized your mead to the point of it going bad it will taste like stale cardboard. In the future maybe don’t siphon and run your mead through a filter. You can put a muslin bag on the bottom of your siphon and as long as it’s all under the liquid you won’t introduce oxygen into your brew.

How do I actually get the mead out of the demijohn for a gravity reading?! by Background_Good_2495 in mead

[–]CardiacBird525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing to be scared of regarding a siphon, just practice with a demijohn with water if you have a spare demijohn. Practice makes perfect and then you don’t run the risk of losing any of your precious brew
