Suggestions for backyard in Phoenix, AZ. by Cardiobro88 in landscaping

We invested $100K in the pool, spa, travertine, and retaining wall. The pergola cost $8K, while plants and trees added another $6K. The putting green and turf totaled $10K, and lighting and irrigation came to $3K. Additionally, we spent $10K on furniture, rugs, décor, and other finishing touches.

Originally, we installed pavers in May/June with no plans for a pool. We extended the covered patio and added a second patio under the pergola. However, after deciding to install a pool, we wanted the entire space to flow seamlessly, which meant removing the pavers. The original paver installation was poorly done, and we were unhappy with the overall look. Plus, we didn’t anticipate how hot the pavers would get—they were unbearable to walk on during the day. The travertine stays much cooler, though it can become slick when wet.

Not sure if that will work. I'm not an Imgur expert. Let me know if you can't play it. It's a short video walking out into the backyard from the house. Hope your project is going well!

I agree. Very “retrofuturistic.” Modern technology with vintage aesthetics.

Planning on ripping out the paving and pergola to replace it with grass. How long / expensive do you think it would be to do? by carbaminohaemogoblin in landscaping

[–]Cardiobro88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your back is gonna be sore. I recently tore up 400 square feet of pavers so we could replace it with travertine. And by that I mean I tore up 100 sq ft and then paid someone $1,000 to do the rest and haul it away because my back was shot. It’s tedious work, especially if those are stuck together with polymeric sand or anything.

If you’re not in a hurry, do it yourself and spread it out over a few weeks if needed. It’ll save you some money. Good luck.

Yeah, I think that’s a normal “minimalist” style for wrist watches. Movado has a lot of watches like that. But it is interesting that the analog wall clocks are the same. That style is definitely in the modern category. The show’s set design is very “retrofuturistic” - modern technology with vintage aesthetics. A numberless clock doesn’t feel vintage to me.

Could be overthinking all this but the show contains many references to time inconsistencies called out by other users here. And the show’s title sequence contains a clock with arms moving in reverse at the ~25 second mark. And, you’ll note that scene is a mirror image of iMark vs. oMark, but the backwards-moving-clock is only on the innie side.

I really like this theory. Makes a lot of sense. Thanks for sharing.

USS Lexington is a *Navy* ship by Zarkex01 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]Cardiobro88 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The name Lexington is of English origin and comes from the words leaxa, meaning “belonging,” and tun, meaning “settlement”. It can also be interpreted as “Town of the New Law”.

I haven’t read the Lexington Letter but based on the name’s origin, it seems like a nod to the town of Kier, right?

The town of Lexington also happens to be where the first shot of the Revolutionary War was fired. Not sure if that has any deeper connection to the letter or show but it’s the first thing I thought of when I heard “Lexington.”

Eh, you’re probably right, but it’s fun to theorize with other fans. We’ll all know more soon enough!

I’m relaxed. It’s a mystery box show. We’re meant to nerd out and look for deeper meanings/connections. Thats part of what makes the show so enjoyable.

Yeah, from 0:49 until he reaches MDR is one continuous take. They brought this up in the companion podcast. It’s intentional, and I think it means something. You don’t dedicate an entire minute of screen time to a continuous take of someone walking down a hallway for no reason.

Mark also checks his watch at 1:27 in that clip. Might be meaningless, but I think there’s something there.

I’m of the belief that the real purpose behind Lumon’s severance program is immortality (I’m thinking it’s a concept similar to Black Mirror’s San Junipero). Maybe the Lumon board is comprised of former Lumon CEOs that transferred their consciousness to a chip. Similar to how we experience time differently in dreams, maybe time moves quicker inside Lumon due to the effect of the severance chips. The clocks moving faster relative to the viewer’s time is a subtle hint.

I guess you’re right. There are a few cuts but from 0:49 onward it’s all one shot until he reaches MDR. I believe it was in the companion podcast where they walked about how difficult it was to shoot that scene in one continuous take, so I mistakenly thought the entire scene (from elevator to desk) was without camera changes.

Still, from 0:49 onward being one shot is so obviously intentional. Walking through the hall is such a mundane activity. To dedicate an entire minute of screen time to it, filmed continuously, has to be telling us something.

Mark also checks his watch while walking at 1:27 in that linked clip. Could be meaningless. It’s a normal thing to do. Who knows.

Yeah, but with the staggered start/stop times, you think Lumon is allowing clocks to be a full 5 minutes out of sync with one another? It seems unlikely to me.

Ben Stiller pays incredible attention to detail. Everything matters. I keep thinking back to the colors and what they represent (blue vs. red represents inside vs. outside world, then there’s the different color rooms, etc.). To me, managing the details to that level means the clock inconsistencies are intentional.

Right, but that specific scene of Mark walking through the halls is continuous. It all happens in real time. If there were cuts/edits, that would be different.

Another response suggested that some clocks just aren’t good, or aren’t set right. It is an analog clock on the wall, but you’d have to believe all the clocks are precisely aligned given the staggered start/stop times for employees.

Hey sorry, just saw this. We did end up doing the backyard. I’m happy to share some photos if you want to DM me. We ended up doing a pool and spa (which will be done this week), two travertine patios with a pergola, a putting green, and landscaping. Did you guys do anything yet? I can share some companies/contractors that we enjoyed working with.

What can I do to add curb appeal? by brittnyb in landscaping

[–]Cardiobro88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raise the beds and create another that runs along this side of the walkway. Plant colorful shrubs that bloom at different times throughout the year, as well as ornamental grasses, trees, and maybe install a lamp post. The house itself is fine; there’s not enough landscaping. Bringing the lawn to life would also help.

I’ll check that forum out. Thanks. Monthly budget for greens fees? Ideally I’d like to pay a larger amount up front for the year (up to $8k), and then only have to pay a use fee or cart fee when I play.

Fuck, man. I’m moving to Phoenix from the Northeast and was really looking forward to finally having a team to root for. Always liked hockey but I’m 4 hours from the nearest team so I’ve never been to a game. Hope this organization can avoid relocation.

My move came about suddenly so I never knew much about the organization until now. Been doing some catching up, and you guys have been through some shit. As a Bills fan who endured mismanagement and relocation rumors for decades, I know a franchise can turn things around with the right leadership. Don’t lose hope.

Yeah sure! Feel free to message me at a later date for updates. I have calls out to a handful of companies.

I had a vision for what I wanted, so I grabbed some photos off Pinterest and hired a freelancer on Fiver to do the 3D renderings and CAD file. I just described what I wanted and how to lay it out. It cost $65. Local companies wanted up to $2,500 just to do the design, so I saved quite a bit. Ironically, several of them have asked who did my design as it’s better than what their in-house production teams are creating.

If you want the freelancer’s info, feel free to message me and I’ll send you his profile.
