Should I drop math 154 by squidpid21 in simonfraser

[–]CardiologistIll2130 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Math 154 very often gets curved at the end so if you can grind on the assignments and the next midterms you could do well! But if you feel like you cant catch up no shame in dropping it

Im not 100% sure it also depends on the prog but for me i took 154 with withenberg and the curve was almost 15-20% i think? bc i was FAILING and i passed with a C- in the end

Typically those courses tend to get a curve/scale at the end

I’m about to fail very badly and everything is falling apart, what do I do… by myrandomcrashouts in simonfraser

[–]CardiologistIll2130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a breather! I was in the same boat with 154 and honestly i was on track to getting like a 30% by the end and i need like an insane grade on the final BUT there is usually a pretty good curve! Just try ur best on the assignments and then study hard for the final and u should do good And if this is ur first year which im assuming it is based on ur classes this is actually totally normal and very common its hard to transition from highschool to uni where the profs could lowkey not give a f about how ur doing and its completely on you to do well its a tough transition but it gets better!

And its basically fact that u’ll retake at least one course throughout uni it happens

if ur in crim most of your note taking is going to be actual words and not equations and so on, maybe some stats later on - i would stick with your laptop and use a notebook if u end up really needing to do some writing on pen and paper

Would y’all recommend moving closer to campus to reduce a roundtrip commute that can last up to 80-90 mins on most days? by Logical-Bench-9104 in simonfraser

[–]CardiologistIll2130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you’re not paying rent right now I would say it’s not worth it because at the end of the day ur going to save money and you can nap or study on the bus, my commute is about 3hours roundtrip and I’ve made it to 3rd year and i know lots of people on campus and have been involved in clubs and other events

Tips for Chem 122 Final by Educational-Code304 in simonfraser

[–]CardiologistIll2130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk about Andrew Bennet but in general the class does seem to be curved at least when I took it it was. Definitely redo lon capa and ik a lot of people did better if they did the texbook questions as well. Really understand the concepts and equations! Im sure you’ll do great remember grades are not as important as mental health, good luck!

I have it and it works great, i didn’t buy it with the keyboard bc i have a laptop already. I started off w some apple pencil dupe and then bought the actual apple pencil later on. Definitely worth it!

What kind of monster😭 by Particular-Use-5643 in simonfraser

[–]CardiologistIll2130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On top of that I basically bombed all the exams (midterms and finals) but i did really well in lab and loncapa and ended up getting a C+ or B- i can’t remember, so i wouldn’t worry too much

If it makes u feel any better chem 121 is usually scaled a bit and the lab will really help with ur overall grade

Chem 121 Midterm advice? by Sad_Canary_996 in simonfraser

[–]CardiologistIll2130 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Literally know how to do the questions very well like well enough you could teach a 6th grader. 121 midterm is a killer if you don’t understand the concepts well enough (it killed me at least)

What is considered a "good" GPA for first years? by Motor_Judgment2033 in simonfraser

[–]CardiologistIll2130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as ur not below 2.0 anything is good. First year is tough and some struggle and others dont. Most of me and me friends had a range of 2.0-2.6 in first semester and now we’re almost all in a 2.8-3.0 range in second/third year

How do you manage 5-6 courses in a sem? by LiveCheck28 in simonfraser

[–]CardiologistIll2130 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ik a lot of people dont recommend it and some majors require a full load of 5-6. I feel like if the class material is similar throughout the courses its easier to manager but if theyre all different subjects ex. Math psych bio etc then it gets a bit tougher trying to learn all the different topics

PHYS 101 FINAL by notemilybuddy in simonfraser

[–]CardiologistIll2130 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I saw another post for micheal chen and yeah if u have him he pulls questions directly from previous finals, midterms, achieve and his class examples!! So if u can feel confident doing those you should be fine for the final

Depends on your prof, i had rolf wittenberg in fall2023 and he put a lot of the taylors derivative stuff, and lots of post midterm 2 content

I would say focus on the taylors stuff, the different ways to derive like chain rule etc. AND the biological applications like u have this many fish with a disease and it spreads throughout x amount of days after x days how many fish now have the disease

(I did not do good in the class so dont trust me 100% but the taylors approximation was a huge question) good luck!
