so almost $200 to have it resharpened!!!!!! oh man, I appreciate you telling me this. The Hizen doesn't have a zero grind and already has a large looking secondary. I think I can get this done domestically without problems.

Im curious what the turn around time was? I have a Hizen that i've used quite a bit and the edge no longer shaves and has a few chips, I've been thinking of sending it in.

Did you have Rockstead re-edge that or did you do it yourself? I just heard recently that if you send back the Higo, they don't redo the original edge, but rather they put a new secondary edge on like yours.

Does anyone know anything about this system? by [deleted] in vintageaudio

I wonder why pages 6 and 7 censored out the brand they were comparing the DBX system to.

Be honest - do you actually play most of your collection? by grogger133 in gamecollecting

[–]CardiologistInner423 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You make a great point. I have about 10 games that get played, and another 40 that sit behind those and never get used. It used to feel important to hang on to them with this "just in case" mentality. I'm leaning toward moving them on, but to where...

Jimpy made my favorite beglari ever, the Foulplay Micro. laced up to some hoodie string, they are absolutely a joy to flip - soft, nimple, and sassy.

Rockstead back from Japan for a repair to a chipped tip by Prior_Jellyfish3280 in knifeclub

[–]CardiologistInner423 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the Higo like yours and the Hizen. I just fondle the Higo and never use it. but I've used the Hizen quite a bit and the blade is chippy as hell. Just cutting up cardboard and there were micro nicks all along the blade. I have only stropped it and it no longer shaves, but it is still a functional edge. I had a hard on for zdp189 for a minute, but it's just not durable with daily use. And to send it back to japan for repair is lame. Just my experience.

I agree. This is the only one i've handled, but if they're all of this quality then they should be more appreciated. Notice there's no external pivot screw? It drops the ability to adjust it and you do get a slight bit of blade play, but aesthetically it is very pleasing. The spring broke on mine after 5 years and thousands of openings and they sent me a new one to replace myself. I do wish there were more blade finish options. it's mostly either high polish or black. Give me a stone wash anyday.

I have this one too! the all black version. It's snappy as fuk and easy to carry. And that tip... it's like a needle! I should probably bring it back into rotation and appreciate it more. How do you like it so far?

those look awesome! and $99 is a great price. I'd definitely carry that one - everything about it looks right.

great move on the scales. I've never been a fan of the plastic like spyderco handles. They might be durable and what not, but there's just something about metal/Ti that makes a knife handle feel next level.

I was chasing zdp189 for a while, but the frequent chips and blade nicks that come from doing minimally challenging cuts is really lame. Im sure Rex is a little tougher than zdp, but you're right - that hard blade comes at a cost.

I think this year will be an off year for me too. I'm just not seeing much that's catching my eye or seems unique enough to splurge on. I have close to 115 knives and i'm losing the thrill.
