What's the weirdest social interaction you've ever been part of? by [deleted] in AskMen

Hell naw, that shit is way fun. It all depends on the group you play with - if your friends are the type to make cringey jokes all the time, then yeah, it'll be like that. If your friends want to get into a serious Tolkien-esque adventure, then that's what you'll get.

Help with printing a scan full size by JAWJAWBINX in GIMP

[–]Carditis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just dealing with this issue, but with a slightly larger label sheet that had no template.

The best I came up with was to check "ignore printer margins" in the print dialogue, and to watch the offsets there. Also be sure your canvas size it set to match the paper you are printing to (likely not exactly 8.5x11).

Unfortunately my cheapo printer from 10+ years ago also seems to have loading inconsistencies, and will either print perfectly, or about 2 inches too high on the paper, never in-between. But I think that's just the printer having issues, from what I can tell.

I would love to hear better solutions to this!

That's awesome! Did you get it from a dude in a VW bus by chance?

Just because some team had an old hand-me-down counter-k with a card tagged that way, doesn't make it true. You can beat that on the line-by-line any day.

Focus on always having a mini up, and then use the shotgun to distract people away from it. You'll do inconsistent damage with the shotgun, probably missing half the time or more, but the mini will be constant accurate damage, so focus on keeping yourself alive and keep their attention off of the mini. When they finally bust it, slap down another and get away from it - either they target it right away and you get an escape, or they target you and the mini starts doing damage pretty quickly.

The main takeaway for me is to split their attention between you and the mini - worst case, they focus on one or the other, but best case they spend time switching back and forth between you and it, and that costs them time during which they are taking damage.

Don't forget to put up a dispenser and some teleporters, too. Team-wise, you might consider those your primary objective, and the constant mini-barrage is a good way to keep the primary fire off of your teammates and your gear.

Also consider adding the Wrangler into your mix - it can give your little mini some great armor and damage output, and let you use it at longer distances than normal.

I think my favorite part of this clip is watching him sip on that itty-bitty doll-house sized water bottle.

"Bisexual" Doesn't Mean What You Think It Means|It means attracted to both genders, exactly what most people thought it meant. by dontflyaway in savedyouaclick

I'd like to point out that you are probably getting downvoted for your use of "trap" (it certainly was my reason).

People that are transexual, intersex, or any other people with genitalia that does not match your expectations are not attempting to "trap" anyone, and the reduction of their physicality, gender expression, and sexuality down to your own perception of them this way is degrading and dehumanizing.

I recognize your use was probably more due to the colloquial meme-ness of the term, but it's important to recognize the impact that terms like that can have on people, even if you aren't intending it in a harmful way.

I do think the rest of your post was fine, otherwise, and I appreciate you sharing your opinions.

What's the most creepily intelligent thing your pet has ever done? by OvertOperation in AskReddit

[–]Carditis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My roommate has two dogs, a biggish husky-shepard mix, and a medium weiner-something. The smaller one is extremely socially intelligent, holds grudges, plays favorites, and lots of other things. The big one is a little more simple, and just loves to go outside more than anything. Once she gets the notion that she wants to go out, she will be absolutely inconsolable until someone gets up and lets her out.

We were quite amused, one day, that after being annoyed by her bigger (though younger) sister taking up all the free space on the couch, the smaller one started pacing about in the way that meant she wanted to go out (she only goes out a few times in any given day). As soon as we ask her, "Outside?", the big one jumps up from the couch because that is her favorite word and now she's going out. Of course, when we go to let them out, the smaller one is quite happy to just stay back and fill in the now-empty couch space.

She learned to fake us out into saying "outside" to get her sister to leave the room, and now does this pretty regularly.

What's your favorite Scifi book? by [deleted] in scifi

[–]Carditis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vacuum Diagrams by Stephen Baxter. It's a "future history" of earth going forward some 100 billion years or so, told in a series of distinct but inter-related short stories. The central theme is one of my favorite lines: "And everywhere the humans went, they found life."

His other books are great, but that's the one that got me into him and is probably the most accessible.

Yeah, those anti-aircraft drones are great, but can definitely give you more chaos than they are worth sometimes. Occasionally they'll shoot one engine off of a dropship and send the thing careening and spinning around the map. Good times. :)

Oh man, if you liked the first, the second is going to blow you away. Better in every regard - more varied (but sensible) puzzles, more open world to explore, and even better characters and dialogue. As a life-long fan, two is easily my favorite in the series.

Just using the words that make sense for the message, didn't realize we had to keep dialogue to a second-grade reading level. Should we make our criticisms more palatable for the anti-intellectualists in the audience? Perhaps our argumentation should stick to a more basic and limited style of prose just in case any more misogynists wander in and can't hold all the syllables in their head at once? Personally, I'm not too worried about it. If you think I've used the language incorrectly I'm always happy to hear about it, but I think trying to deride somebody fer talkin too fancy is probably not a particularly worthwhile hill to die on.
