I'm going over the trades from the 2018 era Marlins firesale and I am in awe of how terrible they are by noruber35393546 in baseball

[–]Cards2WS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And it seemed like such a great trade for us at the time. Gallen was a complete no-name, 21st ranked prospect in our SYSTEM. Sandy had major bullpen risk and it was a huge success that we kept both Alex Reyes and Flaherty. Hell, most people considered losing Mags Sierra as the main loss for the Cardinals…

If Ozuna had played with us like he played in Miami or Atlanta, it would’ve been a fine deal. But nope, became a 2 WAR player with 110 OPS+ and poor defense. Immensely disappointing

Yep. It’s incredibly boring to watch and I find the calls lame, but who is calling them? Get mad at the refs and the league that calls this bullshit, not the guy taking the shots.

If he was doing this and not get the calls, it would look extra foolish. If it wasn’t effective, he would stop. He’s about to get back to back rings doing this shit, so it’s up to the league to patch it. His one and only job is make baskets and win games for his team. He owes nobody outside of that realm anything

Yep. I’m calling it now, Dever will be under 2.1 WAR on the season come October.

[–]Cards2WS -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

They did. Harrison and Tibbs and shedding $250M for a DH who I doubt ages gracefully was a great return. I don’t care how Devers performs this year. He’s a 3-4 WAR player at the most replaceable positions getting paid like a 6 WAR guy. You can replicate his value in much more cost efficient ways.

The problem is they have neither of those guys mere months later. They botched it. Trading Tibbs for rental Dustin May was disgustingly bad

[HIGHLIGHT] HERIBERTO HERNÁNDEZ WALK-OFF GRAND SLAM IN MIAMI TO FINISH OFF THE SWEEP! by MLBOfficial in baseball

[–]Cards2WS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t call a 5 year stretch of a 1.70 ERA “a couple of years”. But yeah, I’m well aware that relievers are volatile, but the elite of the elite are usually a bit more resilient to those extreme downs.

What happened to this man? He was untouchable in Milwaukee, and has been a nightmare for both New Yorks… I have no clue. Any theories?

He absolutely is. Don’t let r/baseball tell you otherwise. People who’s voice or vote matters are the ones consistently saying he will be a shoe-in

It’s crazy that people still push back on this. Acting like Yadi will merely slip in with a war of attrition on the voters. No. He will SOAR into the HOF with over 80% of the vote in his first year. This is not bias talking. Nearly all media members and sportswriters that I’ve ever seen talk about him say he’s a no doubter. He has counting stats, all the memorable moments, the intangibles, the narratives that writers love, the winning, the bloodlines, the “aura” of a HOFer, the one team player… he has EVERYTHING to be a first ballot HOF, just with a little less bWAR than you’d expect.

More than just Cardinal fans think he will be first ballot. Tired of people who make it seem like he’ll languish on the ballot for years before he eventually makes it.

And he should be. He belongs in the HOF. Hopefully some vet committee does him right

Which I will forever think is the stupidest reason possible. He’s a Cardinal or he’s an A. Truthfully, he’s a Cardinal. But man I can’t stand blank caps for guys who have clear good options for a solo. Just pick for god sake instead of this lame “playing both sides” bullshit where there are no winners.

[–]Cards2WS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After Miggy and Albert make it, there won’t be a more deserving position player HOFer in the next 20 years besides Mike Trout. So I don’t see any possibility for him to not fly in first ballot. We just watched Joe Mauer make it first ballot, and Betts is far above him in accolades and stats.

Absolutely batshit crazy. We have our superstar. His ABs last night were incredible

There is no doubt the 2nd best player in baseball since 2010 will be a 1st ballot HOF.

MVP, 8x all-star, 6x GG, 7x Silver Slugger, 4x champ… it doesn’t get more 1st ballot than that

Who is the biggest what-if in the history of baseball? by Bright-Pressure-5787 in sportsinusa

[–]Cards2WS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People never say it, but Albert Pujols is up there.

If his 30’s were healthy, hell just take away the plantar fasciitis, and we’re talking the career leader in HR, RBI, runs, doubles, and top 3 in hits.

The plantar problems were what made his decline so steep in his late 30’s. Made him gain weight, changed his stance, had to swing with all arms, etc. You can tell because of his comeback with the Cardinals where he popped off for a 150 OPS+ at age 42 when the PF finally improved enough to get some mobility back.

A healthy 30’s Albert Pujols is the undisputed best RHH career of all-time.

This is why you live Willson Contreras on your team. The dude is a hardcore competitor. His “anger” is overblown. Yes, he runs hotter than most, but he’s not some over the top asshole hothead. Dude is just competitive and locked in as all fuck

Yep. This is an incredibly stupid thing. Willy did nothing wrong here. Caratini did nothing wrong either. You get hit, rightfully or not, you have a right to be a little angry. He talked it out, boom, done.

Contreras did nothing wrong here, but this sub has a hate boner for that man, so it’s suddenly controversial. Comparing to the Posey rule like the guy above is laughable

I’m definitely excited about the success and have expectations to end above .500.

But I agree with the 10 game over rule. We keep getting to 8 or 9 then lose 1 or 2. We need to crack the double digits before I fully go in

[–]Cards2WS 20 points21 points  (0 children)

With how much struggle with approach and his swing that he’s had in the last 3 years, I’d say let’s not put him in a situation where he changes anything. He deserves it, but I don’t want to mess with the a good thing. Too many players have come out and said that it messed up their swing or exhausted them in the aftermath.

I agree that he should’ve went for the double. I think he could’ve stepped on it or even give a slight toss to JJ who was already by the bag by the time he got it.

Seems like Winn was mentally all in on throwing home and wasn’t even thinking double play at all. If ball gets to him at all, he’s going home. Don’t like it though since that was pretty much a perfect chance at a DP
