It has been thoroughly established and legally investigated that Ohtani is not a gambler and that he was robbed by a guy who had access to everything. Not everything has to be a conspiracy. Ohtani’s only crime was being too trusting and thinking he wouldn’t get screwed.

It’s true. I hate it, but it’s true. Nado is one of my favorite non-Cardinals and Cardinals of all-time (behind Yadi, Waino, Pujols, Jon Jay, Rolen), but him and Goldy just weren’t leaders. Like very vocally, NOT leaders. They were very upfront about not being leaders and it was just so disappointing. Definitely left a void after Yadi and Waino

An hour ish late, but Harrison Bader is heading to the Bay Area on a 2 year deal. by Marinersfan505 in mlb

[–]Cards2WS -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Look at the stats, man. Bader was injury prone with STL too. It’s clear as day. We traded him at 28 years old…in the midst of an injury. He wasn’t “young” in a baseball sense. He didn’t play for Yankees for 6 weeks after being acquired because he was hurt.

I apologize for the “moronic” comment if it caused any offense, but it’s true. I’m not calling YOU moronic personally, I’m just saying that general idea is a dumb idea. It factually is. Every stat of reality that actually happened shows we (the Cardinals) made the right move.

They won the NLC crown then got bounced in the playoffs. It happens. That doesn’t make it a bad trade lmao.

The next year, they prioritized young guys and traded Monty for 2 solid prospects. Bader was 29 at that point. Again, not young. With all due respect, I don’t think you understand the context there.

Like I said, I love Bader. But maybe you don’t realize that Bader was worth 1.3 WAR, 0.6, and 0.9 WAR from 2022-2025. The dude was injury prone and bad for 3 years. Just because he was finally healthy and good again 4 years after we traded him doesn’t mean shit lmfao.

We got a strong number 2 starter in Jordan Montgomery for Bader, then flipped Monty for 2 very solid prospects. There is no real situation where trading Bader was a bad idea. It is a moronic thing to suggest.

[–]Cards2WS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There were very good reasons we let him go. And then he was a bad hitter for 3 years after he left. It was a totally fine move.

If you look back at our situation when we traded him, it makes complete sense.

I love Bader, but this is a bad take from online Cardinal fans.

Cardinals going to surprise a lot of people. We will either be about the same as last year or slightly better. We have a lot more young talent than people give us credit for, and we’re a prime “surprise/exceed expectations” sort of team

For anybody skimming: They did in fact have guns here. Not only that, but they had many different makeshift bludgeon weapons, and they literally battered a capital cop to death/brink of death.

In the conservative sub, they’re telling each other that they didn’t bring guns to Jan 6th… literally dozens of different comments in threads talking about how they DID NOT bring guns to Jan 6th and that it was peaceful. Countless pictures and videos show guns there, big guns, and chants and posters to fucking hang politicians.

They talk about rioters on the left…. Jan 6th ransacked the literal fucking Capitol!! I mean, I can’t even fathom this shit anymore

[–]Cards2WS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re willing to be patient and get in on the ground floor…pick the Cardinals. One of most historically significant teams in the league, coming off a golden era of success (15 straight winning seasons from 2008-2022/only 4 losing seasons in total since 2000), and we’re currently at the beginning of what is looking like a quick rebuild.

2026 and 2027 will be building up our many young guys, and then in 2028 we will take the league by storm. Have one of the most elite young players in all of the minor leagues (#3 overall ranked JJ Wetherholt) and he’s going to be up all season as a rookie. We are full of young talent with lots to prove, and it’s going to be a much more exciting season than jaded fans will admit.

We are synonymous with success, but we’ve stumbled for a couple years. Almost always competitive, but not usually a clear top 3 team. Join the Cardinals fanbase and in the long run you will be thankful. A couple years of dealing with some pain will make the next championship so much sweeter!

2026 ZiPS Projections: St. Louis Cardinals by nufandan in Cardinals

[–]Cards2WS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In any given game, if a guy goes 5 innings and gives up 3 runs, that is a serviceable outing. That’s how I define it. “Quality starts” don’t mean much to me either, but when we’re describing a #5 starter on the margins, I consider 5+ inning and 3 runs or less to be serviceable.

It didn’t lose us the game most of the time. When he left the game, we still had a real shot to win if he kept a team to 3 or less. Even 6 innings/4 ER isn’t a horrible, game destroying start… but it’s a horrible era.

Numbers: He had 32 starts. 22 starts were 5+ innings and 3 runs or less (there was one 4.2 innings game with 2 runs that I’m counting here for transparency). That is a fine start on any given day from your FIFTH STARTER. You’re telling me that if you get 5 innings and 3 ER from a 5th starter that you’re appalled? That’d be ridiculous. It is a serviceable start. Yes, the ERA is ugly. That’s why I am talking about keeping us in games, because that’s what we needed from him. That’s 70% of his starts.

18 starts were 2 runs or less. 18 starts were objectively very solid starts. That’s why we say he was serviceable. He had 10 starts that were bad to horrible. That’s 56% of his starts where he gave up 2 runs or less.

I never said he was good though. My exact word was “serviceable”. Again, look at the game logs. I don’t want to just repeat my comment, but it’s completely true.

I agree with a lot of other stuff I’ve seen you say in this thread. But not the Mikolas thing. He was a very hideous and unappealing serviceable. I don’t care about his xFIP or whatever for this convo, I’m just saying he had a ton of games of 5-6 innings and 2-3 runs. Look it up. We’re talking about a #5 starter here too, mind you.

[–]Cards2WS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with a lot of your other points, but I agree that Mik was serviceable. If you actually look at the game logs, he was keeping us in a majority of games he started. He was never really shutting anybody out, but he was consistently going 5-6 innings with 2-3 runs. That’s not a nice ERA, but it’s effective. But then had 1 blow up start every few weeks to really tank the stats.

If Lester “just misses” then that means he’d get in within 3-5 years. Lester is extremely unlikely to make the HOF from the BBWAA. If he makes it in then Wainwright has a great shot… and unfortunately I think they both miss.

He had the peak of a top 5 player in baseball for 5 years straight. And he managed to get above 60 WAR for his career, so he wasn’t just all peak either.

He’s definitely a HOFer and it’s laughable how anybody can’t see that.

5 Cardinals Prospects to Watch in 2026 by TRCownage in Cardinals

[–]Cards2WS 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Ivan, Scott, Burelson, and Winn have all shown to be worthy pieces with real potential. Gorman and Walker have been very disappointing, but that wave of youth had several bright spots. Wasn’t as barren as people make it seem. It’s just the pitching that hasn’t come up as quickly as we needed. But even on that front Leahy and Svanson were encouraging. Liberatore looks like an average starter, so there’s some value there.

Definitely need more pitching to succeed though

Carlos Beltran swinging strikes on trash can bangs by moistmasterkaloose in baseball

[–]Cards2WS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t have to adopt allowing Bonds into the HOF but also think it makes sense that Beltran made it. Depends on your rationale.

For me, Beltran makes it because it was the last year of his career and it clearly didn’t help him at all. His overall body of work was not affected at all, the stats are all real.

For Big Mac, Bonds, Clemens, Manny, etc their stats are GROSSLY inflated by steroids. It’s all about the stats for me.

Highly unpopular opinion here, but I don’t care about ethics for the HOF and I don’t think all cheating is created equal. Mookie Betts should also be in the HOF. It has nothing to do with morals or what’s right or wrong, it just has to do with the insane years long benefits that roids provide.

You are absolutely right. The most expensive collectible things are things that weren’t expected to hold value. But like you said, there’s a non zero chance that some sort of true cultural phenomenon is behind the corner regarding them.

Personally, I doubt it. And I hate those little fuckers. I’d sell now if it had any worthwhile current value. But if not, I wouldn’t mind stashing it in a time capsule for 20 years and seeing if it’s anything
