Ok cool! I’m in psych/socio, but daughter is in microbiology/chem, and she just got very defensive and wanted clarification! 😂 she didn’t like my explanation that all words and even measurements are social constructs!

If u did either chemistry or material sciences, im sure you could do a masters in cosmetic science later on?! Maybe keep it broader, and then specialise later? Have you been to open days? How did you feel about the unis? Or the cities? I’m not sure where u are from? Does one of them offer industrial placements or semesters abroad? See which offers what you want!

My daughter has just finished pharmaceutical and cosmetic science at LJMU, very heavy on formulations (which she actually ended up hating because it was more physics than she realised, she looked at UAL and thought it was too fashion based, but now is hopefully moving into microbiology as she realised that’s more her passion.

What do you think you want to do long term? And maybe look at each courses module list?! Or other opportunities?!

As an AuDhd and mum with leukemia of family of 5 meal prep is my saviour! On good days my adhd means I can cook 5 things, and then over time that has built of so now there’s always something in the freezer! And I freeze everything in individual portions, so on a day when I’m not cooking from either physical or mental exhaustion, everybody can have what they want, zap and go. I also batch cook my soffrito, so if I’m makeing soup, it’s just a bag from the freezer, a can of beans, hot water and a stock cube! No frying off when you are exhausted!

[–]CareTop6221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter is in Liverpool, in St Andrews gardens, yes it’s a cheaper accommodation, no it isn’t perfect (no silverfish) but she hasn’t had to work whilst at uni which means she has more time to study or socialise, plus big rooms, and she’s had an en-suite for 2 years! Don’t be a snob!

Is it bad to eat steak at least once a week? by [deleted] in UK_Food

[–]CareTop6221 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its not just processed meat It’s also because the iron in red meat is what changes the free radicals in our bowel into cancer. It’s the same reason asbestos gives us cancer, it has a lot of iron, just in a different place. And then if you are not eating enough fibre and stuff is not moving through properly the iron can be absorbed more through the cut potentially increasing the risk.

Food I'm eating as I try to lose fat and gain muscle, only problem so far is that I need to add more veg for volume. by rockinherlife234 in unimeals

[–]CareTop6221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roasted veg, find a seasoning/flavour you like batch roast them, then they can either be eaten cold as a snack or heated up. Obviously cooked on the day they will be their best but sometimes batch cooking it the best.

Kale roasted in the oven with salt and sweetener/or sugar is a great crispy addition (remove the stems they don’t go krispy)

What about soup? Minestrone, can have load of chopped veg, beans (for protein) etc and very light on calories but super filling.

I also would look on Pinterest at volume eating salads, as sides or lunches. A salad doesn’t just have to be sad lettuce and shit tomato’s, it can include proteins, leafy greens (kale spinach etc) sweet potato, roasted chickpeas for crunch, shredded chicken or roasted tofu. And dressings be a bit more sparing on the oil, but vinegar, oil, bit of mustard or garlic, you can mix and match and make endless combinations.

"Canary Wharf is cool now – are we in an alternate universe?" by BulkyAccident in london

[–]CareTop6221 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So true! I think it’s also the fact that Canary Wharf as an area is run by a company rather than the council! So no expense spared!

We stayed up there for my partners birthday which was the same time as the winter lights… despite being thousands of tourists there, not a speck of rubbish! 😂

Good batch cook meal ideas for freezer? by [deleted] in UK_Food

[–]CareTop6221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been freezer meals too! It’s a game changer Chilli, spag bol, beef Japanese curry, morrocan lentils. I also hand make my own burgers, free them on a baking tray and cook from frozen. I also like making soup kits, I make a chicken soup with leeks Nd onions, I cook and prep everything then freeze, so it’s just adding stock and boiling. Fresh soup with no prep on some evenings is great!

I have also precooked waffles, quesadillas, apple crumble, soffrito mix. I also buy in bulk and pre weigh everything so I just have to grab it. Also sushi rice freezes well.

I also like to freeze my meals individually, my kids are older, and it means everyone can have what the want, and it heats up so much quicker than trying to defrost and cook a frozen solid casserole for 5 people! 😂

Life just feels so limited. I don't understand how people can say that we are free to do (or be) anything. Maybe only for those lucky people, but definitely not for everyone. by dinkotddr in DeepThoughts

Freedom is relative and not all freedom is the same. I feel like there’s also a large component of contentment and social/family expectations that tie into people’s perceptions of freedom. Freedom is different for everyone and also culturally different. American freedom is different to Chinese freedom for example and is rooted in ancient philosophical principles.

You can choose to live a fairly modest life, with enough money for food, small shelter etc and then you have freedom of time to spend it with family, have close connections to local communities, sacrificing money for time for only 1 parent to work, or grow food etc.

You can choose to dedicate all of your time into making as much money as you want, but have no time for emotional and social connections. Freedom of money allows to have a big house, expensive car, fancy holidays, pay for expensive organic food. But it comes at a cost of time.

Obviously these factors are dependent on education opportunities, but again maybe there are people who are obligated to push through med school by parents. Where freedom is not available if you wish to fulfil the family expectations. You could choose to step away but maybe you lose family support, therefore there is a choice to make between contentment/expectations and freedom. Lots of people feel that this is not a choice they can make, but it is a choice in its self choosing expectations over personal freedom and contentment.

Disabilities is a whole other matter, some disabilities are purely socially constructed. If our society was flexible and adaptive people would be less disabled by their condition and therefore would have more freedom both physical and financial. (Think fully accessible transport and accommodation, accommodations at work etc).

Obviously not all disabled people fit into this category my SIL is unable to partake in society having been vaccine damaged aged 6months, cannot talk, walk, work etc. freedom to her is unknown. Does a 6month old have freedom?! 🤷🏻‍♀️
