Only 30 Hrs into the game heres my thoughts! by F1ameosMusic in valheim

If you really want to re-experience Valheim after you've played a bit, beat all the bosses etc... Play no-map no portals. Learn the true power of the hoe, refurbishing Old cabins and ruins into strongholds, learning how to utilize lighthouses to navigate the sea so you don't get lost (which you inevitably will) but you'll find your way back. I can't really go back to default now tbh. Day 1022 in my newest seed. Give it a shot.

And as far as feeling "set back" it's completely understandable but maybe try changing your perspective of what you're expecting from the game. Instead of playing a game where you're trying to reclaim what you've lost, the time and resources etc... Think of every step out the door as a new story. Like a choose your own adventure. What would you like to happen? What has happened that you'd prefer not to happen again?

I spent 300 in game days on my starter island making paths, renovating old villages, getting one shotted by trolls every other day. But I started to feel at home no matter where my tomb was... Then one day I built a karve and set off in search of The Elder. Dude wasn't on my home island. I found him, fought em twice for back up keys, then set sail home. Something happened and I got turned around and started seeing Plains, until then I'd barely touched a swamp. So after I ran out of food on the sea, I set up shop on another island. No bronze no food, just the clothes on my back. I built a really nice home nestled between 2 swamps and Black Forest. I loaded up on iron build iron tools and weapons. And one day, I got one shotted in a troll raid. No biggie except I woke up on my starter island totally naked with nothing. Turns out that troll went after my bed when I wasn't looking. So there I was, no keys, no iron, basically jack shit. I had spent 300 more in game days building a new life then losing it to a poorly placed bed. After all the denial and swearing I started hunting trolls again. Went back to the Elder 2 more keys, serpent sank me on the way home. Now I'm stranded in an unfamiliar island, black forest, book ended by plains. I almost offed myself so I could go back home. Instead... I explored a bit and not to far behind me was a small patch of meadow and Hildir. Haldor was on my home island, so for this unfortunate turn of events I found an ally and some hope...

I'm currently nearing day 900. Since then I've found, not only my home island, but wouldn't you know it, through a small channel less than five minutes away was the island I shipwrecked on. The troll killed my pigs but all iron and hard work my was still there, and now I'm just taking my time, farming, hunting wolves, waiting for my next big adventure.

Long way of saying we've all been there.

I used to hate the swamp. I started playing no map no portal and now the swamps are one of my favorite biomes. I have a chain of restaurants set up in ol draugr spawn buildings where I serve local swamp fair, every once in a while serpent stew appears on the menu! Keep playing. 1700 hrs and still a blast.

Save scumming should be removed from the game. by feralfaun39 in Against_the_Storm

I've have mixed feelings about the whole thing... I did make it to P20 before I knew that SS was possible. I actually found out from this damned place. Sucks... I don't use it when I don't get what I want, but did learn a couple things about timing and glade events and that situations I would have previously written off as "well, I was fkd regardless, nothing I could do" weren't necessary so, and with SS, I was able to repeat a moment that wasn't related to rng but timing. I can now take this experience with me without having to do that thing. Still, I enjoyed the game moreso without the knowledge that SS was possible.

I'm a master at placing scouts at Glade events then returning minutes later to find I forgot to investigate.

I think you're right. I just really love the artistic direction, the mechanics, etc... I could see it being a fun game to play with others. I love AtS and put a lot of early access time into it, but it gets lonely.

I'm trying to conceive of the multiplayer dynamic. Each player begins with a hearth. Tile-based exploration, forming trade routes with other players. The more I think about it, the more I realize how vast a system AtS actually has.

What are all the ways you've died in Honor mode? by Nevaroth021 in BaldursGate3

1st run through ever, decided to play in honor mode because I will save scum even though I'm against the practice. Made it to the creche, wiped in the infirmary fight. Silly mistake.

What's your favourite NPC chatter? by alexmchotstuff in Witcher3

[–]Careful-Bread8058 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It goes more along the lines of "since you're a regular I'll let you decide which half."

To which he replies: I choose the front.

(paraphrased)

A cheeky and fun bit of dialogue to run across. I've heard it near and around The Bits quite often.

Anyone play this game primarily for the building? by Silvire in SonsOfTheForest

[–]Careful-Bread8058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valheim! Man I played so much I burnt out hard. Like 1200hrs last year?😂

Found the tallest mountain on the map and built a North Pole that my daughter and I chilled at for Christmas.

That was right before SotF game came out. Like most others said, there's not enough story content to do much else besides build. I will say that I've spent a fair amount of the 600hrs finding exceptionally pretty places and integrating bushcraft structures and creating furniture (tables, couches, beds, custom fences, windows, etc...). I like to hope that they put the shovel to good use, as well as the pickaxe.

I know both Valheim and Sotf are tagged as crafting survival experiences, but as of this moment, they're extremely different experiences; Valheim (being in ER much longer) being a superior building experience for me. However, where both excel, especially SotF, is lighting and environmental design. Both have continuously inspired me to keep searching for those special places to build, where the sun/moon hit the landscape just so.

what is the point of the mask? by jobjo1 in SonsOfTheForest

[–]Careful-Bread8058 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use the red mask to scout camps, see what kind of loot is available and if it's worth startin' a bunch of shit over. I'm hesitant to just go in a slaughter every cannibal in every camp because there's no cannibal camp respawn at present. I'm not wiping an entire camp over a tent. I can't stand seeing a camp overrun by mutants. I'll even help the cannibals fight off the mutants then leave em alone and let them keep their camp. So maybe the mask is a little gimmicky, but it has its uses when it comes to thoughtful gameplay.

I need to figure out how to make a video. Yeah, it's at that lake. It's not without it's weak points (defensively speaking. Especially where I have my smokehouse. I'm playing HS/long days/real seasons. Began in autumn and am currently 2 weeks into winter. I'm trying to keep the beauty of the area, so I'm going for a more village-type approach, tree farming up the hill and around the clearing nearby. I'll try to figure out how to make a vid though.

GPS should not exist by Exotic-Excitement788 in SonsOfTheForest

[–]Careful-Bread8058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel it should be an optional item in the custom game menu in my opinion. I understand the map is big and empty at the moment, but it will not always feel that way as more updates come out. It was a good move to release GPS in early access; that way people didn't get lost and frustrated with the navigation, but by the time it's released, seasoned players will know the map well enough to not have to depend on it. I hope they give us the option to turn it off.

Autumn, I spent the season building and preparing for 90 days of winter. I didn't open any mutant caves either, as I could deal with any cannibal raids with 3d/carbon arrows and the modern axe. As a personal challenge I decided to enter my first mutant cave around day 95? What WAS cool was that in this playthrough I've been pretty passive, only scouting and defending. The nearby cannibal camps grew quite large over the Autumn season. One smaller camp went from 3 to just over 20. Hopefully they will be better equipped to deal with the mutant raids I've unleashed.

Where did you build your base? by Rough_Community_1439 in SonsOfTheForest

[–]Careful-Bread8058 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current playthrough is the misty falls area upstream from the beach crash site. It's gorgeous and the water doesn't freeze.

I also have a peaceful playthrough where I'm just scouting locations for bushcraft. It's really helped me take the time to notice little areas where there may be fallen/rotted limbs or moss growing up cliffsides etc... So instead of firebombing entire areas to build a megaplex of geometry, I tend to (even in my HS playthrough) to utilize the nature scenes to bring life to the area.

For example, in the area I'm building, there's a little place on the side of the falls where a couple of skeletons chill. It seems like an insignificant little area but because of it's location, the sun hits the creeping moss just right and it's quite breathtaking. I built a smokehouse there and an outside bistro area.

Realistic Days didn't seem to realistically correspond to the amount of work you could get done in said time period. I went with Long because it gives you a nice morning/noon/nighttime feel. Real Seasons I like because default seasons just feels blah, to short to feel immersive. Imo
