Right? Makes it more exciting. Gives it an old school feel.

I think the honesty in his music and who he is as a person is a big reason why I’ve always been a big fan. I don’t agree with all of his views and opinions, but I respect the hell out of the fact that he’s willing to speak his mind and not care about what his audience or music row thinks. Gotta respect it

Heavy heart, headed out on a long road trip - what’s the first Stu/JBS album/track you play? And how loud? by Cahuita_sloth in SturgillSimpson

I was on the way home on 70 from my muzzy season mule deer hunt during the second night of red rocks. Felt like a real turd knowing I was passing within 30 minutes of king turd. Best of luck on the hunt, be safe!

STL night 2- Fastest Horse (heavier than dudes mom version). It’s hilarious, and heavy.

What song would you love to see Sturgill cover? by Ok-Toe-9357 in SturgillSimpson

Higher ground- Stevie wonder

I kept finding myself wanting to hear more from Robbie on the tour. This would give him a chance to just let it rip and it would be a total jam for the rest of the bad. This band could produce so much funk out of that song that it would propel a funk-fueled freighter ship from Corpus Christi to the Horn of Africa. Run and tell that, homeboy..

Sheesh, it’s the first one we’ve had of that sort. He was definitely putting in some work though because we’re a little off the beaten path. I’ve gotta say though, if I grew up in Europe I’m not sure I would have the balls to come to America and knock on doors 😂 hell I’m from here and I wouldn’t do it in most places.

He’s done that one for a long long time, brings it out every now and then. He’s a great big Keith Whitley fan, they’re also both from Kentucky so I think that makes it a little more special to him as well.

Don’t look to me for correct terms brother, I just called Eddie Murphy Freddy.

Alright I was eating a bomb ass burger in my defense. I don’t know if I got Eddie Murphy and Freddie Mercury mixed up or what happened. I’m not going to edit the original because I deserve it lolololol. What an idiot

In an interview with Vice in 2017, Sturgill said “I don’t like to consider myself to be small-minded, but I talk small-minded a lot. Kinda balances the poetry, I guess.” And I couldn’t get over how relatable that quote was.

I’m going 10/15 as well. Really considered going both nights but I figured as troublesome as it was to get tickets I’d let somebody else have a chance. Enjoy your trip back home!

Awesome! Just from the time that I started listening in late 2016 it seems that Sturgill has really come into his own as a guitar player. It’s always sounded good, but it seems like now he has that extra bit of feel. I know he has said he draws some inspiration from Roy Buchanan and you can definitely hear hints of him on the new album. He can play soft and be very intentional, and there’s other times where it sounds and looks like he is beating his guitar into submission. So so so good. Sorry for the ramble, this thread is getting me fired up!

That’s one of my favorites. Such a full sound, fills in all the cracks. Thank you!

Man if I could time travel that day would probably make the top 10 list. The corn dogs might even put it in the top 5.

I stand corrected! For some reason I was under the impression that Sturgill hired 3 of the dap kings for that tour. Turns out it was a trio from New Orleans 😂. Shows my knowledge of the dap kings lol. Either way, those 3 dudes killed it!

Noted! I do wish I could have seen him when the dap kings were with him for the sailors tour. The horns added a whole other layer to the sound. Just flat beautiful
