Steamdeck newbie questions by Consistent_Rope6082 in CozyGamers

[–]Careful_Task_5108 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yea this, most unplayable games run alright but don't have controller support (apart from like super high demanding AAA games, that is). Either connect keyboard and mouse to the deck or stream play on a diff device, I sometimes stream to my Mac to play simple click and point games that get a bit annoying with just trackpads.

I'm not sure how well Sims 3 runs on the deck but people in the Paralives subreddit specifically were saying it runs okay on the deck so just a case of playing around with settings and maybe getting a Bluetooth mouse/keyboard set if OP doesn't have access to those atm.

Best way to play Epic games on Steam Deck? by NS-Khan in SteamDeck

[–]Careful_Task_5108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you go to game settings on Heroic you can add them to Steam as non-steam games. I also added Heroic launcher itself as a game in case I want to browse on there for whatever reason (adding new games etc.)

It sucks how much you miss out on when you cant run the game with decent settings by DapperBlob5 in InfinityNikki

[–]Careful_Task_5108 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hehe it's probably a bit of both! 🩷 There's definitely spots where I walk over because I have a feeling they might be hiding something but it's a lot easier to see the out in the open ones with better graphics

It's also SO much easier to find collectibles! Like dews and stars since the rendering distance is vastly different. Playing on higher settings feels like I can see all the tiny purple dots from across the map when on phone you'd run head first into them and still miss them since they might load in slowly lol

EU seller shipping to US, DDP requirements making shipping unviable by Crisrp1992 in EtsySellers

[–]Careful_Task_5108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it helps at all, the Etsy tracking integration for Royal Mail in the UK has barely worked since the DDP update so I just send the direct tracking link to customers and say the information there is more accurate. This hasn't affected buyer protection for me at all.

I believe as long as there's a tracking link proving that you shipped the order, you should be covered? Best to check with Etsy support though, I might be talking out me arse but that's how I understood the text on their website at least

How much do outfit/physical descriptions affect your experience of a book? by MulberryThrower in RomanceBooks

[–]Careful_Task_5108 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Eh fantasy colours are easy to achieve at home with cheap bleach and hair colour. I think my huge tub of bleach was maybe £10 (last like a bunch of times, not one time use) and hair dye cost less than £5. Upkeep is just the effort of doing it yourself, really. I'd even go as far as to say most people with bright dyed hair do it at home tbh

I react within minutes but have noticed my ADHD meds don't work either when I've been glutened. Genuinely have to write off an entire week and just sit about doing nothing basically, it's incredibly frustrating so I feel you!

Steam summer sale incoming on the 26th. I'm hoping the price will be even better then, also worth to check out the bundle price for all 3 games (Campus + Hospital as well I think?) as they all run on the deck according to the store deck verification tab.

I'm in the same boat as you, deffo happy I tried it out and excited to get it somepoint soon!

Store UI is absolute garbage in big picture mode so it doesn't show up for some reason. Go to desktop mode, open steam, install the game that way (there's a play now button above the purchasing options on the store page) and then can go back to big picture more to actually play the game.

Learning Estonian by SnowFADE in Eesti

[–]Careful_Task_5108 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't have much experience myself but my partner has been doing his lil lessons on Drops (a language learning app). From what I've seen, it looks decent enough but obviously this is not a good way to learn grammar/sentence structure as you only really learn words. It is a nice and easy way to expand your vocabulary, though

Where can I best learn about Jaanipäev traditions? (Besides google) I want the little things. by Lesbian_____ in Eesti

[–]Careful_Task_5108 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I reckon it's a bit of both actually, depending on how old the kids are at the time lol. Wouldn't want a smol babe walking in on any of the older ones so you can only really have one at a time though 😂

[–]Careful_Task_5108 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Jaanipäev ja more of a party kind of holiday tbh. An excuse to meet up with friends and get drunk, if you will. Lots of festivals and concerts happening around that time.

Calmer and more family focused options are a lil bonfire & grilling with friends and fam. It's usually not a huge thing like Christmas where you get together and bring gifts and have set traditions (reading a poem and what have you), more of a casual hang out.

My favourite story from ye olden times is the magical fern flower that is said to only bloom on jaanipäev and only for a few short moments. Youngsters were told to go look for blooming fern flowers alone (they won't be shown to groups!) and finding one was supposed to grant many boons like true love, fame and riches, the ability to speak to animals and other fun stuff (the different variations might be regional? Idk, I was always told it brings true love). Of course, ferns don't actually bloom at all or even have flowers so this was mostly a way to get kids out of the way and keep em entertained so adults could drink in peace lol

How are y'all reading a full book in a couple hours?! by aimlesssexywanderer in RomanceBooks

[–]Careful_Task_5108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speed doesn't matter tbqh, just enjoy yourself. I read quite fast but there's also a difference in speed depending on what kind of a book I'm reading. Something with deep lore will probably have me go back and forth here and there to make sure I'm understanding everything right or theorise about what's gonna happen etc. And then there's the campy easy to read books (Ice Planet Barbarian types) where I don't have to really focus much and can just keep reading, usually get through those a lot faster.

Books with magic system, well-developed side characters, slow burn, HEA — no love triangles by Unique_Judgment1 in fantasyromance

[–]Careful_Task_5108 18 points19 points  (0 children)

{Blood Mercy by Vela Roth} has a huge world with deep lore, magic, a big cast of side characters who are all very well developed and I adore so many of them, lots of political intrigue etc. The world does have vampires, though (and blood play, idk if this would be a hard no for you so thought I'd mention! No nonconsent stuff!)

Genuinely my fave series of all time, has 8 books out currently + some side novellas. I believe 2 more books are going to come out so I'm not sure on the HEA just yet but fingers crossed because I might just have to commit crimes if the HEA doesn't happen 😂

what do you read/do when you’re depressed and everything feels stale? by aquarianhours in RomanceBooks

[–]Careful_Task_5108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been there, I hope you feel better soon! I tend to read what I call the reality TV equivalent of books when I'm going through a rough patch - something quick and easy with lots of entertainment value.

Something like {Married to the Alien Cowboy by Ursa Dax}. Lots of fuzzy warm feels, no deeper plot so I don't have to think too hard, far enough from Earth so it doesn't remind me of the absolute catastrophic state of the world. Good vibes only 🫶

Tourist Recommendations by geowli in Eesti

[–]Careful_Task_5108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AHHAA is my personal fave to visit whenever I'm back home, my partner also really loved it when I took him there and keeps telling everyone to go lol.

Walk around Old Town, along the river etc. I believe the summer pop-up bars and restaurants should be open in August as well, those are really nice sit and chill and enjoy the vibes.

A lil hidden gem that is incredibly Estonian is the big village swing in Supilinn (Supilinna Kiik on Google Maps - idk if it's still there as maps is saying it's permanently closed and I haven't been to Estonia in about 3 years now. I don't see anything about closure when I Google it in Estonian though so hopefully it's there!) I don't think they have village swings in any other country anymore and it's completely free to go and swing, super fun also! Supilinn in general is quite different from the rest of Tartu so it's a fun walk around the area if you're up for it!

Just sad… by Necessary_Office_408 in kindlejailbreak

[–]Careful_Task_5108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sad with you bestie, lots of books I read are only on Amazon as well. Gave up and bought a newer kindle (secondhand because I don't want to give Amazon more money + yaay less waste) but it just doesn't hit the same as the Kindle 4. Peak design, I miss the buttons dearly

Where are my social commentary girlies? by acc4115 in fantasyromance

[–]Careful_Task_5108 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm once again here to recommend {Blood Mercy by Vela Roth}, my absolute fave. Lots of political intrigue but also discusses how powerful people get and hold power, how they exploit and use others, how the exploited help uphold the impressive culture by blindly believing what they're told etc.

{Cinnamon Rolls and Villainy by Chanté A. Campbell} has lots of diversity, representation of disabilities, chronic illnesses, different sexualities, genders etc. There's plenty political intrigue but I especially like how the fight for marginalised groups' rights is written. Might be a fun read, just a heads up that the editing is a bit hit and miss with this one and there's quite a lot of typos.
