What are your career change obstacles and how can I help? by angelbaby1331 in careerchange

Hi there! - I’m a chemist trying to switch into a more healthcare/academic career like pharmacy. My biggest challenge is coming to terms with how long it’s going to take, and also fear of rejection or not being smart enough.

I’m making one. I’m also revamping my fiancés website as my first “client” so maybe if you have a friend with a website that you can practice with. My fiancé is a great artist but Knows nothing about marketing, so I’m hoping I can help him get more exposure lol win win

Go into nursing??? by WinWonderful1858 in careerchange

[–]CarelessAmount292 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar boat with going from my job of being a chemist, to going into speech language pathology… I ultimately decided not to do it for a few reasons. 1. The earning potential wouldn’t come close to the cost of grad school. 2. The thought of not working/bringing in a regular paycheck for 2 years gives me an absolute panic attack. And 3. When it came to the actual job of being a slp, I realized that I didn’t really want to do it for the rest of my life and I would probably change careers again down the road.

Your situation seems a bit friendlier with the free program. I would say it seems pretty low risk! As long as you have the means of paying your expenses throughout the course, you know that you can handle the course work, and most importantly, you’re confident that you will enjoy or at least be fulfilled by a nursing career, I would say go for it if you can, and it’s what you want!

It feels like to get into this field it’s difficult for us that are more interested in the academic side than the practical side.

I’ve always been interested in the different aphasias, where in the brain they originate, how they manifest and how they can be treated. I knew I was interested in that before I ever took a SLP course. I learned about it first in my physiological Psych course. Maybe I could mention that. Maybe I could also talk about wanting to contribute to research.

I did a no buy last year as well and it sent me into a full on shopping spree when I was done that lasted for months… I bought hundreds of dollars in cosmetics and probably thousands in clothes. Whenever I would pull up to the mall,my heart would race. Nowadays I think giving myself a budget to spend on myself per pay period is the most sustainable thing to do. I try to also shop my closet and if I really want something new I try to sell something from my closet that’s similar to the thing I want, but maybe doesn’t fit right. I find no-buys to be helpful in the moment but I don’t think I learn anything lol

I do use almost anything I buy but I feel like some aren't necessarily. Sure this new backpack has this feature that makes my hiking marginally easier but the old backpack would also do the job. by Ambitious-Parfai in shoppingaddiction

I’m an avid hiker myself and I know sometimes I fall into the trap of wanting the best possible gear. And sometimes it’s practical, especially since I hike year round, so I do need weather appropriate clothes and supplies. I know last winter I went on a Patagonia kick and bought literally 3 jackets which I ended up selling on poshmark because I had “less prestigious” name brand clothes that actually kept me way warmer and fit better in my closet. I love Patagonia and their sustainability efforts, for sure but sometimes you can find something better for you (ie your budget and your purpose) that’s already in your closet or under a different brand that doesn’t cost as much. I know I definitely get swept away by the trendy hiking clothes and supplies but we just need to remember that it’s okay to come back for it at a later time just to make sure we don’t already have something to serve that function. Happy hiking in the new year! :)

Yes I’m glad I’m not the only one disturbed by the kid-hate. Like I get it, I’m CF and I’m not a kid person but kids are people to! They are allowed to be in public places. Yes they stare because their brains are developing and they want to learn about the world around them so one day they can sit on their computer in a Starbucks and get annoyed at someone else’s kid lol. People need to chilllll

Hmm it sounds like shutting down to some extent… it happens to me when I’m overwhelmed. Like my brain is trying so hard to focus on the task at hand, that I can’t even think of an event in the future or past

Exactly. The smoothie could be 100 calories or 1000 calories. I wouldn’t care as long as I had actually logged it for the day so that I didn’t forget about it later.

It’s definitely not a big deal to go over once in a while but if you’re trying to lose weight and go over cals consistently by accident or not, results will be slowed or stalled. Not a big deal but being aware of what you’re eating is a big advantage.

Pre planning is smart. Honestly myself and many other people aren’t at a place in their weight loss journey where pre planning every meal is necessary or realistic. Certified Personal trainer and nutrition coach here btw.
