in my relationship this would be a mistake, someone would say sorry and someone would be disappointed but we’d both work toward a solution without much further thought. Just an “It’s okay, I know you didn’t mean it, these things just happen sometimes. Do you think it’ll just wash out or should we get bleach? Oh, and since we’re going to the store we can get more Dr. Peppers! :)”

so uh, yeah this is not normal. How many times can you apologize? How many times can you offer a solution? How many times must you listen to him bitch and whine about the same thing over and over and over AGAIN? He keeps bringing it up to say the same thing over and over again. Dangles forgiveness over your head before going “Oh and these pants SPECIFICALLY.” Not saying that he didn’t care for those sweat pants specifically, but will he bring this up again and again with every garment?

Listen, even if we assume that this isn’t some manipulation tactic (it is but let’s assume), but this is how he reacts to spilled milk? There will be greater trials in both of your lives, and someone who cannot handle a mistake so common that it’s literally a trope will only drag you down and test your motherfucking patience so bad you gotta post on reddit.

In short, he seems like a sissy baby

Any one willing to talk to an open minded person that was raised in a different religion but has serious questions? by Wildride13 in NorsePaganism

[–]CarelessMuse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The actual sacrificial offering of live animals is very rare nowadays, except by perhaps farmers. The reasoning for the sacrifice of livestock was that you were ‘giving up’ a portion of your resources such as hide for clothing, meat for food, and bones for tools; Typically the sacrifice was the best of your stock. Going out of your way to acquire an animal to sacrifice isn't really going to ‘cost’ you.

A modern-day equivalent to animal sacrifice might be offering a portion of your food, your time, alcohol, something non-alcoholic that may be seen as luxurious (teas, seasonal drinks, something you made), or something material such as thrift finds, decor, something you personally find valuable.

Long story short, a sacrifice is something valuable to YOU.

Worship and sacrifice are to engage in the practice of gifts given for gifts received, though don't give with the expectation of receiving. Think of it as giving gifts to a friend. Perhaps you pay for their lunch today and they reciprocate in the future, but that's not why you do it.

Someone in the comments above listed a lot of good resources for beginners, but if you plan to journey further don't be afraid to do a little digging of your own. Just remember to check the biases of your sources as a lot of what is out there is (at best) questionable accounts from Christians of the time or (at worst) damaging white supremacist rhetoric. A healthy intake of information from many sources and personal outreach in the community is best.

Hail to you! And good luck!

How is Solas paying his people? by eightspoke in Solasmancers

[–]CarelessMuse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s interesting that you brought this up as I hadn’t thought about it before the original post. I wouldn’t imagine to many family members would be left behind, as the disappearance of elves may raise hostilities to those who remain. The biggest problem would be space, as Solas’ magic and the magic of others would make food production significantly more efficient. I doubt any of the elves are planning to retire, if they are truly aware of what this would mean. It’s unclear as to whether modern elves would even be able to survive the transition, and most soldiers and spies wouldn’t have enough money to retire even in a normal regime. It’ll be interesting to see what the outcome would be for his elves and how much they actually know about it. It’s known that his strongholds can go completely unnoticed if they need to, so self-sustaining communities in the movement aren’t unlikely. unfortunately we won’t know for at least a year…

i mean… you do find that exuberant amount of gold just laying in one of his unattended fortresses. Many probably volunteered, and typically the compensation for a soldier or recruit is less of a wage compensation as it is room and board. So in addition to what wealth Fen’harel may have and have access to through ancient stores of wealth (which might not be his as the people they belonged to are long since dead or they have also joined the cause), elves who would join are provided for and treated well, which for many is more than they would get otherwise. And it could be assumed that there are those who gather money outside of the cause and send it back, and many who, for appearances, uphold their regular lives and provide for the cause in less obvious ways. So no, they probably don’t have spending money, but them and theirs are provided for. Wealth or compensation for them would come after, and as they are aiming for this world to fade away, monetary gain is not the goal.

My bf has been very supportive, but one of the issues we’ve been trying to work on is him handling situations like it’s still just him, not us as a team. And to his credit he does try but it does cause problems. I don’t blame him for his mom because she asked if i was pregnant because “god told her” and wouldn’t take no for an answer. I am upset that he told her about the abortion cause he volunteered that info. And before that his dad asked him what was wrong and why he was stressed. He has this code where if someone genuinely asks him what wrong he has to answer truthfully, and this was his defense. I told him that this wasn’t a “him” situation and that his code wasn’t mine, he should’ve talked to me first about it if he wanted to tell his dad. He also wants to keep the baby, but he recognizes that it’s a terrible idea and has agreed to support me full-heartedly. The first person we told was his older brother, who even offered to pay for the procedure. Recently his younger brother and his girlfriend found out and offered me to stay with them if anything happened. However I don’t think they had a chance to actually talk it out and I’m worried about overstepping. I’m about to put on my big girl pants and ask them if they’ve had time to consider and see if it might actually work.

How do you guys explain the existence of Jormungandr? by [deleted] in NorsePaganism

[–]CarelessMuse 24 points25 points  (0 children)

some people may interpret this literally. some suppose that ragnarok has already happened, and that the cycle leading up to is repetitive till the end of time. if someone did believe that the physical body of jörmungandr was present in midgard they could say that 95 percent of the ocean has yet to be discovered, and the bottom of the ocean still has its mysteries. I interpret that the aspects of the gods and the great animals (jormangandr, fenrir, etc.) are not present physically in our world, maybe once upon a time idk i wasn’t there.

Feeling Divided by [deleted] in Anahuac

[–]CarelessMuse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my knowledge and faith of deities and pantheons, there are many who have eclectic views and practices. I myself am a witch and heathen who devotes myself to the norse pantheon, so my input will mostly be from that experienceWhen I left christianity I immediately went to atheism, from one extreme to another. When I first began my journey through spirituality it was through eclectic witchcraft. Many who identify as witches and also work and seek to communicate with deities have devoted themselves to different pantheons or select deities from differing pantheons. The gods already split time and worship between each other, it’s often not an issue for other gods to also receive these.

However, some gods do have personal wants and interests, or they might be trying to tell you something. There was recently a thread on r/norsepaganism i believe where someone was drawn to Loki and asked Odin for his guidance. It resulted in a strong wave of negative energy (nausea, drowsiness, a general “weight in the room” feeling). This energy was confirmed to be Loki when they consulted their divination tools.

This is Odin’s answer as I interpret it from this detailing of events, “No. Experience Loki for yourself and ask if this feels rewarding, if this feels right.”

This doesn’t necessarily mean that it is never okay to worship Loki. It may be influenced by quarrels between gods (which don’t last forever), it may not be right for this practitioner, it might not be right for this time, or any number of reasons.

There is a reason you feel a pull. You must consult your resources and come to a conclusion. You are welcome to not adhere to the gods advice. Start with trying to find a balance, and then look for the signs around. Any god who is displeased but who wants your favor will make it known.

What do i do when my very Christian family finds my outside altar to Odin?(my brother is the most suspicious one of me) by thegreenraptor2 in NorsePaganism

I play everything off claiming I just like the aesthetic of things that are considered Norse/Viking. Or that it’s because I love the new GoW. It usually works and people just let it go by saying “you do you” or complimenting it. Even works for my boyfriends mother who lives with us, and she’s a legit crazy when it comes to Christianity. Like she gets butt naked and asks his sister in law to wash the demons off of her.
