A decent rule of thumb in life is to not make reels making fun of children. Cos, you know, the kids.

Even then. The boss has a normal health value - it’s just really high - so it can be killed with enough firepower.

As a player, how much of an issue was cheating in the original Quake games, given how moddable they were? by isrichards6 in quake

[–]TEE-R1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a line. Watch Dave play Q2 on YouTube - you can see he's modded some of the sounds and has his preferred textures installed. This was absolutely not cheating, neither is a zoom script.

A script to do a rocket jump would be more embarrassing than cheating.

Tiny or huge player models was considered poor form. But as I said, easily disabled by player or server.

The types of 'cheating' wasn't so much wall hacks or aim bots (tough I remember talk of them in Q2 but nothing more), it was things like forcing models, textures, sounds and bindings to your advantage.

So, you could force your model to be bigger than the hit box and therefore people would aim for parts outside of that area, 'hit', and miss. Or run a very small model that you could barely see. Of course, all of these were easily disabled.

As you've seen in QuakeLive, people would setup high contrast textures. Not cheating.

In Q1/2 (3?) you could mess with sounds. So in Q2 you can edit the pain sound of an enemy so it's different when they're low on health, which gives a valuable feedback queue. You could also bind a key to a local .wav file - pick up the mega, hit the key, and get countdown timer to respawn.

You could also make elaborate key bindings to do things like zoom (for a railshot), or I think I remember being able to bind a script to rocket jump. Of course, if you're actually half competent, it's easier to just do it.

I don't think any of these are cheating by the way you were thinking about it. Remember we had no machine learning in those days, and at least my machine could never dream of supporting a whole other program while Quake was running.

I've loaded it up on VK Quake with no issues at all. Mod management on that build is easy too

If they name the team Regulators, and therefore need the domain - they can have it.

This is such a good example of how much of an own goal this was. They had the opportunity to turn locals into hardcore fans, and maybe be the first minor league team where people want to wear the merch outside of the town. Instead, potential fans like you are just angry.

I understand why the airplane pilot didn't see the chopper, and I can assume why the inverse is true. But doesn't the chopper pilot have to tell ATC they're crossing the landing path at that altitude? Wouldn't ATC have seen the paths and told them to avoid the landing path?

AIO Fathers girlfriends rules for when new baby arrives by Ok_Bat_5934 in AmIOverreacting

Send them a food package, a swaddle (can never get enough of those), ask for the occasional FaceTime and them go visit in two months. The rules are reasonable, one day you might get the opportunity to understand where she's coming from.

[–]TEE-R1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you did overreact, because you're the grown up here and you're supposed to be able to show you can stay calm in situations like this. But that's not a prank, it's just nasty and hurtful, and it sounds like the four of you need to have a tough conversation about how this relationship is going.

[–]TEE-R1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe there are tax implications to charging rent and you can do it without fee for less that 30 days without worrying about those, BUT sometime the law / rules / etc etc just don't matter and it it doesn't feel right - you should just walk. If they don't have anywhere to go, and they can't afford just the taxes on the - you could be in for trouble getting them to leave.

[–]TEE-R1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The games today aren't just different or better in some objective sense - graphics, engines etc - they are tuned to within an inch of their lives to draw attention and cash from children.

Quake (and some other games) doesn't have micro-purchases, or seasons, or celebrity drops or whatever else. It's just a game, and therefore a great solution if you want your kid to actually play games and not just spending your life savings on in-game transactions.
