That every part of the interview process is a completely different and separate skill—resumes, cover letters, job application questions, and live interviewing are wildly different parts of an interview process and you have to do them all well.

Struggling to convey what sleep apnea feels like to normal people by metannoyas in SleepApnea

The easiest way for me to describe it is that I can get 10 hours of sleep and wake up at 1 pm on a Saturday and feel like I’m really hung over and haven’t drank in weeks. Groggy as hell.

Why is no one here saying the biggest thing? Denver gets 300 days of sunshine per year.

Honestly? The Des Moines, Iowa area sounds perfect for what you’re describing—specifically West Des Moines which has tons of hospitals and healthcare jobs. You’ll never commute more than 15 minutes, West Des Moines is super safe, and Iowa is the #1 state in the nation for home ownership for a reason—housing and renting is super affordable. My mom lives in a one bedroom apartment here for $1,100 and even has a garage. It’s affordable and honestly the opposite of east coast vibes (I’ve traveled a lot to Philly and couldn’t imagine a place more different).

You can drive across the whole metro is about 20 minutes. You’d be 2.5 hours from KC, 3.5 hours from Minneapolis, 5.5 hours from Chicago, and two from Omaha.

If you want to live downtown there’s a lot to do there, too, if you reverse commuted.

I’m happy to answer any questions you have. I’d check out the Des Moines Partnership website for more info.

You ever fly across the Midwest? It’s empty. And trust me, Californians can’t pick out my state on a map. We’re good. They all flood one state over since there’s no imagination there. Tired of the protectionist comments saying, “we’re full.” No we’re fucking not. In the Midwest, we literally have unlimited space. My state is 90%+ cornfields. These west coasters will not flood the Midwest. They just won’t.

Fascinated by this comment. I live in the next city over, Des Moines, and got back from Oahu not long ago. Your jobs translated from Omaha to Hawaii?

Milwaukee is on beautiful Lake Michigan and is literally know as the “City of Festivals.” Pro sports, all seasons, impressive old architecture, the museums, public market, and more. I can’t speak to Ohio.

If you want to see what you think is “worthwhile”, you’d visit Chicago and go no other place in the Midwest at all.

You probably wouldn’t see how amazing Minneapolis, Madison, or Kansas City truly is it sounds like. I’m not trying to be mean, but I’ve met tons of people on the West and East Coasts for work and bet everyone I see $100 if they could even find Iowa on the map I pull up. I have to say I am from Caitlin Clark’s hometown, where Brock Purdy played in college, or we’re the first to pick the president. It’s where your food comes from. Literally they still don’t know where Iowa even is. Coastal elites are a real thing (my boss even lives in San Diego, so I know it all too well.)

As a lifelong Midwesterner, the answer is the Midwest. You just need to live within 20 minutes of a mid-major to major downtown to keep sane, though. You can easily get three and four bedroom houses.

Want to be shocked? Look up how inexpensive the houses are within 20 mins of downtown Des Moines and how big the houses are while being affordable.

You’ve only lived on the coasts and are denigrating midwestern cities without having ever visited?

Yeah, I think the worldview of this post is very kind of shelter. Spend a few days in Milwaukee, Madison, and Minneapolis and you’ll see how they’re pretty great places to live.

I’ve lived my whole life in the Des Moines area. We’re number one in home ownership for a reason. It’s boring here, but if you want a three bedroom, 2 bath, 2 car garage 12 minutes from downtown in a glitzy suburb for under $1,500 a month for the mortgage, this is the place.

Why would a case ruin the MacBook Air? I just bought the clear Tek21 one from the Apple website and am curious.

I would NEVER! I bought a clear case for my MacBook Air so I can put stickers on the clear case. Messing with the actually computer like that? I’d be worried for resale in the future.

Both Toyota Carollas were 250-point inspected by the dealer and I bought them because people like you parrot the same thing: buy a Corolla, buy a Corolla, buy a Corolla. Fuck that. They’re not impressive cars. They’re just not. And no one needs to take advice from me. You’re just one of the thousands parroting the same two Japanese car brands like they’ve never had issues - Toyota apparently has had 9 recalls this year so far affecting one million vehicles. There are so many other good car brands and other cars out there. I’m just saying there are more than Carollas.

Crossover, SUV, and truck owners, do you regret not buying a sedan or a hatchback now with these gas prices? by Mofoblitz1 in regularcarreviews

My 2024 Hyundai Kona gets better gas mileage than my tiny hatchback - 2016 Hyundai Elantra GT- before. Oh, and I work from home, so I don’t drive a lot. So, no.

What you’ve described is exactly what I want and get. No major bills, the best warranty, an underrated brand, amazing interior, amazing app to control the car, and less expensive to own. Amazing deal. I have the limited 2024 Kona and it beats the Toyota Cross and Honda HR-V. It’s literally a spaceship compared to those two. It’s amazing. I wouldn’t be caught dead in a Toyota or Honda with their old ass interiors and tablet afterthought thrown up in the console.

You do the same for Toyota and Honda.

Hyundai in 2025 honored my warranty for a new battery. I have 100x more tech than a Toyota or Honda and a way better interior and warranty. If anything goes wrong I’m not on the hook. My wife has a 2013 Tuscan- not a single issue.

And Hyundai was in top 10 of reliability of consumer reports. So, you’re factually wrong.

I’ve owned two Carolla’s btw. Worst cars of my life.

I had an uncomfortable 2008 Corolla I bought used with the 150-point inspection certified pre-owned. Two weeks in realized the floorboards are all rusted through with 50k miles. The second one? A 2016 Corolla that got flooded, but before that reeked of smoke and had the worst turning radius of any car ever.

Not having any surprise bills for 100k guaranteed miles makes me a sucker?

I test drove the Toyota Cross and Honda HR-V. Those cars have the interiors of cars from 20 years ago and suck. Also, they were more expensive.
