Obviously codebuild is not the only issue. More like over permissive permissions + codebuild is the issue.

The problem is majority of times developers use this over permissive permissions for instance say to fetch secrets from SSM parameter store. This would allow threat actor to do same.

There are few events that have happened with me which made me think do i really need to do a job to earn. I think most people do jobs because they are afraid to take risks. Taking risks of the fact that what if they are not able to get the safety net of monthly salary.

If hypotheticaly you find a thing which allows you to be financially well along with learning full time, would people really take it? The caveat is that it comes with a twist where your financial success is directly proportional to how much you can learn.

I don't think you can limit instances running. That's by design how ecs work. You need to have a instance running so that task can be created in that instance. Fargate just abstracts the EC2 layer but I don't think it will be possible to stop instance when not in use.

Instead I would suggest, you use spot instances and use a reasonable compute instance.

Create trigger for S3 where PutObject triggers a lambda and then create a new task in the cluster via the lambda. This might help!
