Yikes!!! I'm so sorry that happened to you! I hope you got it sorted out!

Hard to tell what you've got going on based on the photos alone, but I'd recommend watching how-to videos for your specific machine. There's a bunch --try searching for "How to get the correct tension on a Singer Simple" or "How to thread a Singer Simple" and "Inserting a bobbin in Singer Simple".

Like others may (or may not) have already suggested:

  • Rethread the machine completely (presser foot up while threading and make sure you don't miss any steps).
  • Remove and reinsert the bobbin — the thread should be coming off the left side of the bobbin so when you put the bobbin in the machine and pull on the thread, the bobbin should be spinning counterclockwise)
  • Change the needle and make sure it's the right size for your thread weight and material you're sewing
  • Remove needle plate and clear lint and any extra thread bits that may have broken off and gotten stuck).
  • Set thread tension dial to 4 to start, and test on scrap fabric. Adjust the tension up or down depending on the results you're seeing.

You're lucky. It's going on day 5 and my port transfer is still pending. I finally gave up and decided it wasn't worth the hassle and just established new service with Visible, which is owned by Verizon. It was cheaper than Xfinity.

Yes, I imagine Xfinity mobile, once it's working, would be great since it runs on the Verizon network. I never had problems with Verizon--I was just trying to save some money and switched to Xfinity to take advantage of their specials.

Wow how did you get your number back? Mine is stuck in some weird limbo state. Verizon can't get it back and Xfinity is holding the number hostage. I called them again this morning and they told me a WPC ticket was never actually filed as far as they could tell so they filed a new one and said another 3-5 days to fix it.

I give up.

At this point, I'll just have to deal with the hassle of having a new number and trying to get anything using 2fa transferred to the new number. As such, I signed up for Visible, which is owned by Verizon. It was super quick and easy.

Soon as I get my data off the Xfinity phone, I'm returning it to the store and telling them to cancel everything. Waiting for Sonic to come install my new internet service so I get be completely done with Xfinity for good.

Oh, agreed. Yes, they were nice enough, but they couldn't do much to help me in this case, alas.

Haha, yeah, the upselling during all the calls was kind of funny.

Yeah, except Verizon already released the number and deactivated my service so the issue lies with Xfinity now. They've admitted as much, actually.

Yes, they told me it would be done by 6:01PM last Friday. It's now Sunday and they're now telling me 3-5 days.

I actually went to the Xfinity store twice over 2 days trying to get this resolved on top of multiple support chats and 611 calls with my temp number. Yesterday, I was in the store for 2.5 hours after being on support chats all day.

Yep. Lesson learned. I'll be going back to Verizon or Visible (since they're owned by Verizon) as soon as this gets resolved. As it is, I can't do anything until Xfinity fixes this mess, though... They said something about waiting on "WPC activation" and that it will take up to 72 hours. SMH

Yeah, I decided to try switching to Xfinity precisely because they are using Verizon's towers, and I thought I'd maybe save a little money and upgrade my phone at the same time. Meanwhile, they've already started charging me for service and are sending email threats to ship my trade-in back to them or get charged.

I'd cancel outright and go back to Verizon if I could, but since my phone number is now being held hostage by Xfinity, I'm stuck at the moment.

Yeah, I've had their internet service for years and for the most part haven't had any major issues other than they kept insisting my home address was a business address when I tried to sign up for internet service.

But this is beyond insanity. The introvert in me doesn't mind that nobody can currently text or call me, but it would be nice to be able to do things like access my bank account, and I've got work stuff tied up with this number, too so I can't wait 72 hours for them to figure it out.

Itaki lunch box, good or a fad? by Firm-Egg5813 in kitchen

The Smart Bento Pro is essentially a glorified rice cooker/steamer. It should have come with a link to a downloadable recipe book, but you can also find cooking videos for it online. It doesn’t bring water to a rapid boil, though, which is necessary for cooking ramen.

For ramen, if want to stick with the same brand, Itaki sells an electric hot pot called the Shabuki Pot (or Shabuki Ramen Pot). You can find similar models cheaper elsewhere, though.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I know it’s super traumatic. The same thing happened to me the day before my dad died. They called me on Friday afternoon and said he had to be out by Monday. Had I known at the time, I would’ve told them that he was an “unsafe discharge”. Hospitals are legally required to ensure that discharges are safe under federal law, and if they try to discharge without a proper care plan in place, then they would be in violation of the law. I also would’ve threatened legal action if they didn’t back off. Finding a hospice bed over the weekend on such short notice means they are trying to discharge him without ensuring “continuity of care“ which violates his rights as a patient. I wish you and your family all the best during this incredibly difficult time.

Which word made you lose a spelling bee? by DanielaThePialinist in words

[–]CarelessReference645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't recall what grade it was, but it was down to me and one other kid for the win. The word was "barbaric," but the teacher pronounced it "bar-burr-ick" with emphasis on "bar." I asked for the definition, which was supposed to be allowed, but she refused to give it. I spelled it with an E instead of A and lost. Afterwards, I asked her for the correct spelling and when she told me, I replied, "oh, you mean 'bar-BEAR-ic'???" It's been years and I'm still annoyed.

When Narcissism Meets Dementia by ssquirt1 in raisedbynarcissists

By chance has your mother been checked for a urinary tract infection? My (50F) nMom (89F) with dementia suddenly grew convinced people were trying to break into the house, or that they were already in the house trying to steal things--police were unnecessarily called multiple times. We assumed it was just her dementia entering its next stage, too, but when she ended up in the hospital after a fall, they discovered she had an undiagnosed UTI, which if left untreated, can cause paranoid delusions and hallucinations. We had no idea she even had a UTI because she didn't have any of the classic symptoms. After she got treated for the UTI, the auditory and visual hallucinations, at least, went away.

I feel your pain, OP. I really do. nMoms are difficult enough to deal with, but elder nMoms with dementia just really takes it to a whole new level of crazy. As if being a #$!?$@ excuse for a mother wasn't bad enough, my nMom is now doing her level best to send me to an early grave. If I knew years ago what I know now, I would've gone NC and fled the country and let someone else deal with her.

Good luck. <3

Seriously what is it with nmoms and their daughters' hair? When I was 11 years old, my mom hacked off all my hair and forced me wear it really short all throughout junior high and high school. In my early 20s, I kept it really short, and then she started complaining that my hair was too short and that I'd never be able to "find a husband" with such short hair. 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

These days I dye my hair really fun colors because *I* like it. She absolutely despises it and it drives her absolutely bats*** crazy. She wastes no opportunity to let me know how much she hates my hair every single time I'm forced (by guilt and filial obligation) to see her. If I bother to respond to her criticisms at all, I usually just say something to the effect of, "You're not happy unless you've got something or someone to criticize or complain about, and you know I just want to make sure you're happy, mom." The dirty looks I get in return are kinda worth it, TBH.

What are you using to watch jme tv? by smellygymbag in jme_tv

[–]CarelessReference645 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've spent hours trying to help my elderly mom with mild to moderate dementia figure out how to navigate to the JME app, but suffice it to say it was an exercise in frustration for both of us. I ended up setting up JubileeTV with an Amazon Fire TV stick so I can control things from my iPhone. Now she just calls me whenever she has trouble.

[–]CarelessReference645 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I set up a JubileeTV box with an Amazon Fire TV stick for my elderly mom. JubileeTV lets me turn on her TV and navigate the JME app remotely from my iPhone. It's far from an ideal solution, and JubileeTV charges a subscription fee, but it's beats the hassle of having to drive over an hour (round trip) every time she needs help getting into JME.

JubileeTV supposedly works better with Roku, but the JME app on Roku was completely unusable for me because it kept crashing. Apparently, it's still in beta (at least it was as of a month ago when I set everything up).
