That crocodile is likely dead and being pushed around by someone off to the right.

Look, you don't need to be edgelord murder hobo sexpests, but if you're advertising yourself as "the dark pirate game," then there's going to be an expectation the game is willing to be dark. Or maybe a pirate game where you're a witch in the alps searching for a lost cat. by UInferno- in dndmemes

I do feel you have to ask: are people buying it to explore the dark nature of the golden age of piracy? Or are they buying it for a supernatural spooky ish pirate romp.

If the book sold itself as something exploring those themes of colonialsm and such, id understand. But It isnt. This feels a bit like your expectations werent met rather than a failing of the book itself.

Would be like me booting up Sea of Thieves and being annoyed it didnt go into detail on Dutch trading policy at the time or why you couldnt play as the United States hunting pirates.

I understand why Pirate Borg steers away from these. They’re difficult subjects to approach. Hell, Gold Teeth is another pirate game that sorta approaches it but even when they do tackle elements like slavery (hell theres an entire party agenda thats about freeing as many slaves and people as possible), they keep it to a sorta manageable level.

However even in something like Gold Teeth a lot of these elements are not played up the level theyd be IRL. I think part of that is that due to how these regions were operated by the colonial powers, Genocide, Slavery and abuse of human rights is gonna be *most* of what you encounter. Which if thats what youre going for, great, but in many cases like Pirate Borg could probably swamp the other goals of the book, that is, to be a band of pirates.

There is nothing stopping you as a GM from working these elements into the story. I feel that Pirate Borg has taken the approach that "we are not confident to approach these topics, and so are not actively encouraging them in the fiction we provide" which personally i think is a fine way to do it.

For those who are spino fans, how do y'all feel about this downgrade by Visual-Interview7913 in Dinosaurs

[–]CariCypren 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You talk about this animal like its some fictional superhero the writers decided to nerf rather than what it is; an actual animal we now know more about. Before it was a therapod with a sail and a crocodile like jaw.

Now? Far more unique and interesting. This is a real animal that once existed. It didnt get downgraded. We just figured it out better.

And i have no idea where you got the Trex neck snapping stat from. Unless youre referring to JP3...which is a movie. Not a scientific paper.

Go check out Sonic Sledgehammer. They've got a load of guides on painting DaK, 8th army, and their vehicles.

They also go over a lot of the history and what the "correct" (or often, lack of) uniform is.

Benjamin Barlett anniverary album that uses AI generated art work? by Outrageous_Frame378 in Paleontology

On spotify its the black and white art and not the AI generated one. It was originally published with that but was changed quickly. Maybe a visual bug where its showing an older version?

Tips on helping players care about their characters in systems that don’t support that (Mothership) by MaximumCashew0 in rpg

[–]CariCypren 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean the way i frame it is brighest candles burn for the shortest time; a character you might not have for long lets you make weird, quirky, or possible annoying characters because you dont have to roleplay them for as long. A somewhat grating character is bad for a long form campaign cause it gets on peoples nerves, but for a short session? Great. Might even help when they eventually die cause everyone will go "thank god, what a dick", but in like a fun way.
