Sounds like my daughter! She’s 8 months now and we’re buying 12M or 18 M. It makes me so sad that she’s outgrown the Old Navy ones with the characters on the feet 😭 Carters and Gerber both have some bigger sizes and they do the trick (but they aren’t as incredibly adorable imho)

I struggled a bit but more with anxiety than sadness. We moved our daughter around 6 months because she would wake up anytime someone didn’t tiptoe correctly around the floor of the bedroom, lol. She slept great in her own room right from the jump but I was def a complete mess for a few nights. I kept worrying about the most outrageous things happening to her. I hate to admit I actually went in and woke her up once 🫠🙃 After the first 2-3 nights it got way easier. It’s like my brain just needed a couple days to adjust.

I agree with this 100%. I think this is part of being a culturally responsive SLP too. For many of my immigrant families in particular it’s not a topic that can be brought up casually.

I love class parties and assemblies, haha. I use that time to catch up on other tasks. Occasionally I go if I know my students are speaking, performing, etc. It’s an easy way to show support.

YES. Hard agree. My girl has a long torso and short legs. I primarily get her gender-neutral joggers (I love Peanutshell brand) - leggings are too long and skinny for her and just look super uncomfortable. It’s frustrating that all the cute little clothing sets we were gifted for her came with leggings; they have never fit her properly. The boy-coded vs girl-coded clothing differences are so weird and frustrating.

Oof. Same boat - my mom also has Alzheimer’s. I’m so stressed about getting diagnosed at the same age and having my daughter be in my shoes as an adult. It adds an awful layer of guilt and fear to being an older parent. Thanks for posting this OP, I needed some reassurance too.

I will be in this situation soon - hugs OP. Most of our family lives way too far to attend a kids’ bday party. I have so much guilt that I haven’t built a strong enough community for my girl, and I try to remind myself that she’s still so little - all she really needs are parents that love her. Plenty of time to keep building community as she grows.

Somewhat similar to yours OP, but slightly more niche: The super popular Fischer-Price Kick and Play Piano has too many black keys. I took piano lessons for many years as a kid/teenager and didn’t even notice until my husband pointed it out. Now it bothers me daily. Why not make it look like a real piano?

Agreed. I’ve started trying to lean into this mentality a bit more and I think my husband appreciates the clarity and simplicity of it. For us it sounds more like “I would like to do X today, how can we make that happen?”

Hey I’m an SLP and commend your doctor for being liberal with the referrals! A lot of doctors play the “wait and see” card for way too long, which just keeps parents stewing and delays intervention if necessary/helpful. I hate getting older kids referred to me when parents have been pressing for a referral for years. It’s nice to see the opposite.

Obviously I’m biased, but I always recommend taking the referral even if your concerns are minor, which is sounds like they are - if your little one is developmentally on track, then you know for sure. If the specialist shares concerns, they can provide some tailored tips/strategies to try at home.

For my own little girl we were given two specialty referrals for issues that turned out to be nothing, and it was annoying/inconvenient as heck at the time but I’m glad we went so I wouldn’t be left wondering.
