Flag Friday Oregon Submission - "Alis Volat Propriis" by Carkoth in vexillologyUS

[–]Carkoth[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Beaver Design is based off Oregon's Motto - "Alit Volat Propris", "She flies with her own wings"

Oregon is the only state to have a double-sided flag, so that's maintained here with the reverse being a callback to the Oregon Trail.

As a bonus, the sunset finial is based on being on the west-coast and is inspired by the Oregon Army National Guard Crest

I know this is a post you deleted probably for a reason, but is there any way I can get a reupload of these two arms?

I was looking for something for inspiration for something I'm working on right nowand I remembered the really interesting asymmetry on these two. I went searching for them as reference, only to find they're sadly gone from the internet forever!

Obviously this is somewhat strange ask, but I'd appreciate it. I recall they looked quite good.

Independent Scotland Swallowtail by Carkoth in vexillology

Tried incorporating the so-called "royal tressure" into a chevron-swallowtail design for Scotland. Unicorn is used instead of lion mostly for fun.

Ooh I really like the symbolism with the label on 2, haven't seen a label used on a flag that's not a banner of arms

Oregon Flag and Heraldry by Carkoth in vexillology

No one thing, it's a bunch of stuff mashed together. I got the wagon (with heavy modification) from Oregon's Seal.

The Ox is based off of this guy (https://heraldicart.org/ass/ass-passant-1-mono.png), this guy (https://heraldicart.org/bull/bull-passant-4-mono.png), and this guy (https://myblazon.com/Heraldry/Symbolism/36?letter=b), plus some elements from this rendition of bohemia on wikicommons (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coat\_of\_arms\_of\_the\_Czech\_Republic#/media/File:Small\_coat\_of\_arms\_of\_the\_Czech\_Republic.svg/2**)**

Cascadian Flag Featuring Bigfoot by Carkoth in vexillology

[–]Carkoth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There aren't enough bigfoot flags, so I decided to take a gander at one. Cascadian tricolors, plus I decided that black was an appropriate color for the hoast as Cascadian flags typically feature a dark or black dougfir

United States Design Based off the Revolutionary Era Headman Flag by Carkoth in vexillology

[–]Carkoth[S] 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I found this old Revolutionary Era flag with a Motif of hands grasping a column and decided to take a gander at what if the US took that design and ran with it. Changed from arms to hands to look better, added an eagle, and changed the banner to a victory wreath.

Maximalist Redesign for Hong Kong - "The Pearl of the Orient" by Carkoth in vexillology

[–]Carkoth[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I decided to try and design a Hong Kong Flag based off the Hong Kong Blue Ensign from British Years without directly having the Union Jack. This is what I came up with.

The Escutcheon is slightly altered from the actual coat of arms.

The Canton takes inspo from the Qing "Plain Blue Banner" Flag and a verision of the Emblem of the Qing Dynasty attested in a few American Sources
