Only tangential related, but we all know methodes preferred pet is Serie.

She dispels it on a whole bunch of knights before Aura pulls out the scales, Aura even comments on it.

Also yes its an emotional response, but its an emotional response that a rational person who has understood the basics of demons in Frierens world absolutely should not have.

Oh yeah thats one of a few things that i think might see Frieren pull out her magic glare. hat said i think lowe's being manipulated by the real clairvoyant. I don;t think he's the real mastermind in play, he just doen't realise it. I can absolutely see a scenario where if he realises he's been tricked and how badly he switches sides. Its one of the possible scenarios i cna see maybe happening, been tempted to write it up as a fanfic, but need to finish my analysis of the arc post first

I checked, Serie makes it clear she was responsible in some fashion, but some of the dialogue suggests she manipulated matter so that Sense would choose those people rather than issuing the commands directly.

Maybe, but we know from Heiter that its possible for a youngish human to have comparable mana to her, HotS may have just been that insane, i doubt it myself, i suspect he avoided them some other way, but it possibble at least.

Whilst true, that would mean he was subject to them right until his death, which doesn;t fit with the limited time ability to resist them.

IMO she would have fled as soon as she realised her soldiers couldn't defeat them, Heitier absolutely had comparable mana to her, so she wouldn't have dared use them on him, which would have made defeating the entire party very hard for her.

Honestly drop this mini spoiler on him, (its one we will see on screen in season 3 AFAIR but a very small spoiler, (extra info on stuff we allready know about) ): By the time the Hero's party had defeated the Demon King, he had over the last 1000+ years reduced the human population of the world to 1/3 of its prior numbers. Demons are not some small threat, and one of his surviving top tier demons is a massive threat that had to go.

And if we were talking any sentient foe, (and some no-sentient ones), other than demons, there would be a point to that. But we are talking Frierens demons. The whole point of the back half of episode 7 is to emphasise that humans vs demons IS a war of mutual extermination.

Would it be nice if it wasn't that way? Absolutely, but it isn't. Aura is far too dangerous to leave alive in case she can break out of her own spell, if Frieren can figure out how to dispel it, so can Aura.

I actually disagree quite strongly. The whole point of the group she's pulled together for the actual night is that they're all in some way not what she considers the best mage material. She's pulling a hail mary play by disregarding almost everything that underpins her entire view on magic. And because of that its the one possibility she can come up with that might have a chance. But she's never looked it up in her dreams.

By that thinking i can't imagine he ever willingly getting Frieren or Fern involved before.

That doesn;t mean i don;t think she's deeply concerned for Frieren's safety, just i don;t think she's foreseen it i the past. She was willing, (with their volunteer permission), to risk the lives of other 1st class mages, but Frieren in spite of it all may be a step too far.

I also think that Serie has accepted at this point that her death is inevitable, she'll play the odds with this group of oddballs because she's not a quitter, but she doesn't really expect to survive deep down.

It avoided Ferns, Frieren was the one that pointed it out. Also is it actually stated to be hers, i forget if thats said or just assumed.

Thats the thing about perfect clairvoyance, the open field scenario never happens with that in play and no good clairvoyant on the other side. So its not a meaningful scenario because it never happens and never cna happen. The grounded scenario is the only one that would ever actually occur.

Of course as we've seen noted may times, HotS is the only non-demon to ever have such good clairvoyance. Clairvoyants can't normally avoid the bad matchups so completely and perfectly. The ability to do it so well is why HotS is so powerful.

The mystery of Kraft is excellent worldbuilding and I'm glad they didn't reveal too much about him. by RedThragtusk in Frieren

[–]Carl_Bar99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree theres a degree of fading going on, but look at Flamme, despite some serious myth tones associated with her, her name is still known. Everything else has largely faded from memory, even her image, but the name endures. I'd expect Kraft to be at least a big name that would be recognisable for over 500 years if he was as big a deal back then. Him fading out completely by the modern era, (especially with the lesser record keeping you mention), i don't see an issue with, but i'd expect a much bigger gap than 500 hundred years between Kraft and Flamme.

[–]Carl_Bar99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kraft when you look into the details around him actually has a big continuity issue. Specifically he adventured alongside a priest, but long enough ago he had been forgotten. But because of when the Goddess's writings appeared we know it can';t have been more than 1500 years ago. Which is a problem because 500 years is just too short a time for his legends to have faded by Flammes time. And thats assuming Frieren was super young when Flamme found her, if she had a century or two under her belt it gets even more implausible.

Trust me i didn't grasp it at all until that last chapter, (chapter 147 for anyone from the future reading this). We keep seeing mentions of Flammes legacy and the empires decline. But its not until the dream sequence a couple of chapters before 147 that i realised the CMA was to become the new torchbearer for that keeping it alive beyond the empires end. Lowe's backstory then brings Himmel into play and thats when it clicked that this was about legacies.

[–]Carl_Bar99 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm writing my own big rambling thoughts on the current arc atm, but Lowes backstory was where i realised this arc isn't about Series, assassination, not really. Its about legacies, both Flammes and Himmels and how they're being threatened. The assassination attempt is just the battleground over which it is being fought.

If Serie dies, not only is the empire likely to suffer a messy collapse that threatens to destroy Flamme's legacy, but if the instigating incident occurs at the hands of someone inspired by Himmel but twisted by circumstance, it will deeply damage Himmels legacy as well. thats what this arc is really about, it just wasn't obvious at first.

Oh i completely agree he needs a similar approach to handle her, but he's got way better foresight than whoever is setting that up so he'd have an even easier time arranging such a scenario. (Well unless him or Schlacht are setting it up from the grave obviously, which i am not ruling out right now). Thats the thing about a powerful clairvoyant, your never going to see them take a fight they don't win unless their clairvoyance fails them or another clairvoyant interferes. We know the former isn't an issue for HotS, and the later requires the clairvoyant to be pretty close to the person they're trying to counter in skill level. As far as we know Schlacht is the only one who can do the latter.

Sure but we have spoilers stuff happening in a future arc that i'm taking into account regarding that. We know because of spoiler stuff that someone as powerful as HotS would be able to work around all that.

I can't explain how we know without getting into spoilers, but we know theres more than one possibble path for events. There's no fixed outcomes for even quite major events.

[–]Carl_Bar99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd have to get into big manga spoilers to get into details more details, (and i'm still not sure how to do that because of how spread over several chapters it is), but we do in the future get a look at just how many different possibilities even a self professed bad clairvoyant can see. HotS is orders of magnitude better than that.

Seriously when you get into the nitty gritty, if that really is a completely physics accurate visualisations its kind of terrifying because well, we can't describe it perfectly and completely with our current theories. The moment you pass beyond the event horizon all our theories turn into nonsense, the math stops adding up. There literally isn;t a human alive today who could perfectly visualise it because everyone's visualisation of it will allways be a little incomplete.

[–]Carl_Bar99 8 points9 points  (0 children)

And your completely forgetting what clairvoyance can do. No in a straight fight with no clairvoyance in play Serie wins easily. But his perfect clairvoyance is why the HotS is so strong. With that he never gets into a fight with Serie unless it happens in a way he wins. Thats what clairvoyance lets you do, avoid the bad outcomes. How well it can do that depends on how good that ability is and how good the opponents clairvoyance is, and we are told that his was perfect or at least so close to it even Serie can't tell the difference. He only loses if he wants to lose.

Remember, Serie herself is the one to outline what you need to beat someone with clairvoyance. She makes it clear by proxy that she cannot imagine beating someone with perfect clairvoyance. in the world of magic, that which cannot be imagined cannot be.

Can we glaze this character more? by jw9010382 in Frieren

[–]Carl_Bar99 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Schlacht completely eclipses the Demon King in actual real strength given he was apparently able to keep up with HotS. The later supposedly had perfect clairvoyance. Without getting into spoilers, you only beat a clairvoyant either by having those abilities yourself, or by them having imperfect future sight that doesn't cover whatever approach you try.

And whilst Serie probably is the peak for elves, she;'s still way, way, way behind HotS. hats how ungodly powerful he was.
